Anna Harvey - 2008-10-14 As a wildlife rehabilitator I have delt with many white tail fawns. People need to be warned that a deer is born with soft hooves which harden in about one week. I am concerned with a deer as a pet as I have been kicked by a 20 pound deer and was cut like a razor blade thru the elbow and received 90 stitches. I would have to assume the smaller deer would have to have a lot of attention paid to their hooves. Think twice before you consider one as a pet.

Jim - 2010-06-09 Many people raise whitetails as a farm animal and they do not get hurt because they are domesticated the same goes with these deer.
Anonymous - 2010-06-08 For such a primitive animal, these guys seem so complex! I mean, they only have 6 chromosomes, even fewer than the common fruit fly that has 8! A real genetic miracle.
Monty & Robin Cross - 2006-08-03 Your Muntjac is as cute as ours was. Unfortunately, we did not know that in Virginia they are illegal and considered a threat. Last month the Department of Game raided our property and seized our three Muntjacs. Without any due process, our pets were killed the same day and we were threatened with arrest. We had our pets for almost 4 years and they were everything we could have wished for. Our state will not even return their bodies so we can bury them on all our acres of property. Monty & Robin Cross

Muntjac Deer, frequently called Barking Deer, are the oldest known deer dating back before pre-historic times.
