I had one of these guinea pigs and his name was Bear, because his hair was so wild! He was the smartest pet I have had. You could say Bear give me a kiss and he would stick his little head out of the cage and kiss you!! If your looking for a loving, cool pet.. you should get one of these! They are so awesome!

HI, We just bought our first pig! So cute! I keep reading that they need a cage mate? My plan is to give all the attention he needs but I am getting nervous now that maybe we should have bought two. Any suggestions?
  • renee - 2012-12-24
guinea pigs can be ok without a cage mate provided they spend alot of time with you. They are very social and love attention and interaction.

i have a new skinny pig, and I'm having an issue keeping it warm. I'm thinking of putting it in a fish tank so I can put a heat pad on the bottom, but someone thought it might be too noisy for the little guy. does anyone know if that is true? please help....thanks

Noisy no. OK you can put the little fella in a fish tank given it's large enough and place paper towel on the bottom (so it doesn't slide). Then put carefresh or some bedding on top of the paper towel. Place a heating pad on low under 1/2 the tank so the little fella can be as warm (or cool off) as he wants. You could also place a heat lamp shining over 1/2 his cage and he could do the same thing.

you could place a wool sock over the pig and secure with a little duct tape. I did this once cause the piggie had severe derm. I found out that using a little kitten revolution flea med cures dermatitus on guinea pigs. I cut the toe and heal off the sock and cut 2 holes for front feet then slip it on and loosely duct tape the sock so it stays.

I recently 'rescued' a guinea pig from a pet store. I didn't like her cage with the wire bottom. I have always loved guinea pigs, and had them years ago. Here I go again. Anyway, her name is Lisbeth, and she has long hair. She was sold as an Abby, but alas, the only rosette is on her head, then comes the long hair. Needless to say, lots of brushing and butt checking. She seems happy by herself, but somedays I think maybe she should have a companion. Sandy

We just purchased a skinny pig (Hairy) and are learning about it. What does it mean when you pat Hairy and he squeaks? Is this good or bad?

The squeaking is a happy sound...they chirp, and chortle, and squeak when they are happy, or want something from you. Enjoy your piggy!
  • Katie - 2012-11-07
Guinea pigs have several different noises It might be worth looking on you tube to see examples If is more like a purring sound then it's good if its more of a squeal then she or he is telling you that it's to much

I have a Teddy-S'mores. He's hugable, cuddly etc. he wipes his nose on your kleenex, takes his meds.. noses his brush if he wants to be brushed if you ask. He understands 'Ks'mores go home' & tons of other stuff when you converse with him. he's one smart guy.
