I have A Guinea Pig Named Chloe. Just To Note That Guinea Pigs Should Have The Proper Bedding. Pine Hurts There Feet, Carefresh Makes IT Smell, Aspen Has Dust,Fleece Stinks! I Strongly Would NOT Recommend IT. I Use Recycled Paper Bedding And IT Last A Long Time. Thanks For Reading!

Did you know, Guinea pigs do MUCH better with at least 1 friend Guinea Pig? I got my first the summer of 2009, I was her third owner, she was also very poorly treated, then, we got her a friend, American Guinea Pig, Loki. She was sooooo much happier, even for a crancy of piggy. When she passed, we had to get another one because Loki always had a friend, so we got a mixed breed, Abyssine and Teddy bear. I don't know if she is a teddy bear, she has long hair, but albino, so it's hard to tell.

The first time a sow gives birth, it would be best if she is already four to six months old. That's what I do with my sow. And when she gives birth they're all healthy and strong. http://www.expertguineapigcare.com/guinea-pig-breeding

Well if u do, guinea pigs are suppose to b kept in pairs or more. They're very social animals and become depressed easily from loneliness. But if u r home and spend a majority of ur time with it I'd recommend a friend. Employees in pets stores may say its ok to keep one but most don't really know what they're talking about. And b sure to give them plenty of space. Food and hay and vedgitbles daily. . And guinea pigs can't store vitamin c so give them orange slices often and u can even buy drops to put in their water. And don't forget lots of love.

When i was about 9 years old, i got a baby female guinea pig. I named her Mollie just for the heck of it. She is an abbi-haired guinea pig. I already had an elderly guinea pig named Gorjet. I got her and rescued her from an irresponsible adult. I am a kid and took better care of her. Then she died and Mollie is about 3-4 years old. Now that mollie needs a friend, I am going to get her two little friends named Spunky and Abbi. She is going to love it. I am even more. If my mom would let me, and we had enough money, I would take every gp in the rescues, shelters, and petshops. When I get older I am going to be a guinea pig breeder, and a darn good one too.

Amy and Kaos - 2013-04-25
A month or two ago, I bought a pregnant guinea pig. At the time I didn't know she was pregnant, but about 3 weeks later she had one healthy baby pig. The mother, Amy, is a standard American short hair, but the baby was born an Abyssinian. I named her Kaos after her fur :) but she's very adamant about not being held. I can pet her, but as soon as I pick her up she goes crazy. She kicks and claws and pulls and screams. I really want her to grow to love and trust me, what should I do?

It sounds like she is still very young, so there is a lot of time for you to bond with her! Just continue to have patience, pet her everyday and gently pick her up every day. She will most likely calm down and learn to enjoy human interaction, it will just take time.

Are guinea pigs easy to litter box train? I want to get one but need it to be at least mostly trained. Thanks

They are actually fairly easy to train as long as you are consistant.
  • Susie - 2013-02-28
Amigo, No they are not easy to litter box train! It is very difficult to get a guinea pig to poo in one place and virtually impossible to train them to poo in a litter box. Any owner will tell you that they go everywhere! Don't get a guinea pig if you're not prepared to clean up the mess. You need to be fully aware of what you are letting yourself in for before committing to any pet. A pet is for life and is a big commitment.

My sister and I share two guinea pigs and have no problem cleaning up after them. We spot clean about every other day and fully clean the cage on Sunday.

These guys do enjoy company.  Having two will give them some entertainment when you can not provide it.  So I guess it really depends on how much time you have to be with your pig.
  • Melissa Murray - 2013-03-10
Did you get a second Guinea? Our guinea looks identical to the one in the Abyssinian photo... we have been strongly considering a cage mate but are not sure if the cage size will accommodate two piggies!
