I recently 'rescued' a guinea pig from a pet store. I didn't like her cage with the wire bottom. I have always loved guinea pigs, and had them years ago. Here I go again. Anyway, her name is Lisbeth, and she has long hair. She was sold as an Abby, but alas, the only rosette is on her head, then comes the long hair. Needless to say, lots of brushing and butt checking. She seems happy by herself, but somedays I think maybe she should have a companion. Sandy

My husband, Troy brought our baby girl home on 02-14-11. It was a wonderful surprise to come home from work and see the work Troy put into setting up her cage and everything. She wasn't due to come home til about the first week in March. But I think Troy made me think that just to surprise me. Her name is DottieMae.

Ringtail Possums are not pets. They are wild animals and should be left to flourish in the wild. If you find a sick or injured possum please get it to a registered wildlife carer or vet asap as these animals need special care with an aim to release all animals. Please do the right thing by these animals and don't keep them confined in a cage, they should be free

Ringtail possums are protected species in Australia, and it's illegal to interfere with them in any way whatsoever ie. no trapping, and no keeping, despite the fact they can be pests in your garden. They easily destroy any roses you keep, and have a strategy of destroying (and ultimately killing) one tree at a time. Like all marsupials, they have very small brains, and while they're good at what they do (climb), they are not intelligent animals like dogs and they can in no way be trained as pets. As for house-training, forget it - they just don't understand and will wee and drop constantly wherever they are (including on you). When picked up, they generally ignore you apart from scratching you with very sharp claws when handled. In summary, they do not make good pets whatsoever. They're like opossums, but a bit more primitive and certainly less intelligent than a rat or mouse. You can get a wildlife permit if you have a very good reason to keep one, but this is expensive and only given if the animal has no alternative - having one as a pet is almost unheard of. In summary, they are protected native animals, and should be left to their natural environments, which if you're lucky, may include your garden. They are social animals and MUST be kept as a family group together, which effectively means you can't have 'one' as a pet. Lastly, anyone from Belize who tells you they've got them is a scammer - this kind of third world possum scam is very common.

I have a 5 month old male and I love him so much. He stays in the house with a cat & 3 dogs. They play all the time. The dogs go out in the daytime and he goes too when I go out with him. I would love to have a female too so he can have a companion.

I love rats. They are so adorable! Rats have many different personalities(ex: my rats hazel is very active and likes to explore but gravity is more shy and will just cuddle up with you). Just wanna say that rats make adorable pets and I highly recommend them as pets.

Are rats really good pets? Everyone says they are just disgusting little smelly things, is it true? I mean I am kinda scared of them, but some are kinda cute though. But the ones that i think are really disgusting and gross and that i have a HUGE fear of is the sewer rats, or those wild rats that have rabies!! They scare me!!
  • Steph - 2012-11-30
Rats are great pets. Wild rats are different then pet rats. Just like a wild cat is a lot different then a pet cat. Pet rats are definitely not disgusting animals. They clean themselves and are very intelligent. I love rats as pets, you'll also come to realize each have their own individual personality.

I have a Havana rabbit, and shes super sweet, but super shy. And when i put something in her cage she runs at it like she would attack it, but then she just like smells it, is this normal or what is it? And what could cause this. And how can i help stop this and how cam i help gentile her. I have 2 other rabbits and theydont do that, and they are pretty docile. What can i do?

Some bunnies are just more curious, lively, agressive, laid back more so than others.  If you threw a ball for a pup - some will chase it and some won't.  Sounds like if you throw a ball for your little Havana - she will chase it.  She is curious and attentive and wants to know what eveything is.  So something new and she runs up to it and tries to determine - what it is and can she eat it.  I don't know why you would want to stop it. -  Just me.  I would think you would want to capitalize on it.  I would take her into a small room - like the bathroom with a bunch of objects hiden behind your back and put them down or throw them one at a time.  Sit down on the floor with your Havana and have some fun.  It will get some of the excess energy out of the Havana.  Then have a little stuffed animal (little) that you can use with your hand to play with the Havana and then use your hand to play with the Havana.  She will be calmer, she will get used to your hand, you will get used to her antics and eventually you will be able to hold and pet her.

It scares me a lot. And sometimes i cant tell if its aggressive or not.
