Hi Charlie TGIF!!!! Its Marie again I have Snowball the holland lop bunny. I have it running between the kitchen and hall its gated off. He's still pooping all over we had him trained to go in his cage but he does not do it anymore I am not sure if he thinks that this spot is his cage or what its been going on for awhile. We never litter box trained him because he would not go in it. During the day I let him have the run of the house for a couple hours and he loves it he binks (SP). But when he's running around he also poops and pee's where he;s running..l What should I do I am nervous about puting him into the cage at night when we go to bed to retrain him I feel its cruel because the cage is small. Do you have any suggestions??? Thank You so much P.S. He is very spoiled I donnot think he knows he's a bunny I think he think he's one of us LOL!!!!

Hi Marie, I'm not Charlie, but I have an English Lop (Max) that does the same thing. He gets to stay in his cage when I get tiered of picking up Easter Eggs and wiping up the floor. He doesn't seem to mind, he also has a smaller cage. Have you tried to put several litter boxes out just to see if he will use it. I would even lay out papers because you can roll them up and put it in the trash. I have thought about having Max fixed but didn't know if it would help. I think it could because it looks like he is kind of marking when he does this.

Hi there, My name is Brittney and I am a preschool teacher and one of my co teachers just got a bunny for her classroom. I am concerned that this little guy (Thumber) doesn't get the proper care. He is usually in his cage all the time unless being cleaned. I was wondering if you could give me a detailed list about how to care for this bunny, ways to potty train, diet, play, how long a day he should be out of his cage etc. He is such a lover, and it makes me sad he doesnt get the attention he deserve, therefore i will be taking it on myself. So this info would be soooo greatly appreciated!!! He is about 7 months old. It would also be nice to get info about being around children ways to maybe make it more comfortable for him, the more the better on all the above! :) thanks

Litter training is pretty easy but needs consistancy. Having the rabbit stay nights and weekends at school may make it a bit hard. Normally they will pick favorite spots to go to the bathroom. When you figure it's spots put a litter box there with some of it's droppings inside the box. If you want it to learn the box over the spot, place a few litter boxes throughout the room with their droppings in it and they will usually get the hint.

They rabbit will need a lot of touching and attention to make it calm when handled. First the kids will need to be educated and closely monitored. He will need exercise like any animal, unless the cage is huge will need time to stretch and run.

I had a floppy ear rabbit, it was brown. I gave it water and rabbit food. Most of the time I gave it vegetables, also carrots. It died a few months later because it didn't want to eat any of its food. I always use to take it out in the back yard to walk around. Sometimes it ate the grass. I loved it. His name was Cookie. It was the best animal I ever had until it died. We buried it in the back yard. Well, that is my comment about my rabbit I use to have. The end.

You can't give your rabbits just vegetables. they should only be given vegetables once in a while. You MUST avoid lettuce as well.

Are gerbils cute and good pets to have? I'm thinking of getting 2 soon and I just want to know about what they're like because I haven't had any before. Are they easy to train? Are they cute? Good pets to have? Better than other small pets like mice? Thank you!

Gerbils make super pets. They are cute, very sweet and handleable. Just be sure to get at least two because they really need companionship. If you don't want a lot of babies, be sure they are the same sex too.

I have a Teddy-S'mores. He's hugable, cuddly etc. he wipes his nose on your kleenex, takes his meds.. noses his brush if he wants to be brushed if you ask. He understands 'Ks'mores go home' & tons of other stuff when you converse with him. he's one smart guy.

YAYYYY...i was right, my guinea pig WAS pregnant!!!!!! She had 2 babies :) .... but now she only has 1 :( ...because the other didnt have enough oxygen or something and she/he died. I would have helped but she gave birth during the night. :( I'm suprised she survived! I love her and the baby!

I have had my hammie sence sept and he is doing great. but now that the cold weather has arrived he seems to stay in his hut more. Its only 62-66 degrees in the house ( dad hasnt turned on the heat yet) and when he does this is the normal temp all winter. Is he going to be ok or should i find a way to warm up the room.

He should be fine as long as he has plenty of bedding to snuggle up in. They are naturally noctural, so he may also be getting more inclined to sleep during daylight hours.

After having lived in the big city for many years,we moved to mo, where I've found that some people have no regard for the wild life we have steadily taking their natural homes from. After a mother racoon was run over the baby was left laying on her dead mother. So as easily as I'm writing this I have also choose to give her a home. She is young and so far very sweet,but I always remind myself she is wild..but if she was left there she could never survive.

I love my current mouse, butterscotch. She is very cat-like. She hates water, she lands on her feet, and the best part about her is that she loves being scratched behind her left ear. My mouse, peanut butter, loved to eat. He would stand on the bars, waiting for a treat. Whenever you gave him food, he'd squeak back, "thank you!" and eat it. My mouse, Remy, would escape to explore. I trained him well, he'd go back to the cage when he was done. My mouse, mozzarella, loved to run in circles (no, she was not insane). My dog ruby tried to eat her, but she couldn't catch her. Mozzarella trained ruby to be nice to my mice. Ruby never touched them again. I've been keeping mice my whole life. If you're reading this and don't have a mouse, get one because they all have unique, loving personalities.

Mozzarella is an adorable name for a mouse! I have a bunch of mice, and I named them all after Harry Potter characters. Their names are Severus, Draco, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Ollivander, Bellatrix, and Ron. :)

Aww they sound cute! I've got a cute little black and white mouse at the moment called Poppy. She is quite shy but I love her so much, she's really cute and takes things out of my hand! She is trained. I used to have 3 mice called Milly, Molly and Mandy. Milly was dark brown and white, Molly was chestnut brown and white and Mandy was pure white. I loved them. Mice are the best rodents, I think. They are adorable I love them so much I started having them in 2010 :)

My husband works for the phone company and was called to repair some phone lines. Upon opening the box a mother flying squirrel ran out leaving the baby behind. Apparently the mother had chewed through the phone lines
She never returned so my husband and I took her to our local vet found out she was a little girl and got instructions on how to care for her. She is now about 11 months old and will be a year in August. She has been acting very aggressive to me lately. Biting my feet and jumping on face. She never acts this way towards my husband. I love my sweet Rocky so much and am very confused about her behavior. Tonight she bit me hard enough to draw blood. She attacks me when I am watching tv or eating dinner. Is it possible that she looks at me as another squirrel and wants to be the dominant squirrel? After she bites me she also humps my leg. She is in her cage during the day but the cage is two story and very large. We let her out for about four hours a night and even longer on weekends. We keep her on a diet of mixed fresh fruits, fresh veggies and some nuts. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Although baby wild animals are cute and the urge to keep them as pets are overwhelming, their needs are only met out in the wild where they are meant to be. By the time they grow up and become nasty and unpredictable, it is too late and the owner finds himself regretting that he took a wild animal and kept it captive. Now you have an owner who doesn't know what to do with this animal and an animal who doesn't want to be a pet. This is exactly why people who aren't wildlife rehabilitators should leave the wild animal care to the professionals. There is no circumstances that condone keeping a wild animal except for educational purposes. Even if you find a wild animal who is unreleasable because of a permanent non life threatening injury, the animal doesn't want to live a life of incarceration. That is better left to criminals who deserve it. Not to mention that it is against the law. All wild animals, no matter how tame they may seem, will become nasty, hard to control and very unpredictable as it gets older. Now what? Is what you did fair to the animal? Think about the long term responsibility of your actions. Be fair to all creatures. Diana

Diana you are completely out of line. That women took in a helpless animal that most would have left for dead. She took the flyer to a vet in efforts to become educated in caring for her properly. I think it was very good of you to welcome the flyer into your home. The flyer may be acting this way towards you because you are both female. She may be jealous of the relationship you and your husband have. I'm no expert but that is just my opinion. One thing you should change is the flyer's diet. One of the most important thing in their diet is calcium. Flyers are prone to calcium deficiencies that cause bone to become brittle and weak. Her main diet should be pellets that have a lot of calcium in them. You can give them nut, fruit an vegetables as treats but that alone is not going to keep your flyer heathy.
