I live in northern california and just picked up a Florida box turtle someone found walking in the road. I had a 3 toe box turtle my friend found in the road. I had it for about 6 months and decided to get it a friend. First I had a 6 foot long planter made into a fancy pen. The second day in its new home it disappeared. I put up signs called the shelter but never found it. I'm glad to have another turtle but would love to get my "peanut" back. Does anyone know if it is legal to have a Florida box turtle in california?

We just had a female box turtle lay her eggs in our back yard. It is in a very private part of our back yard and we plan to let the eggs hatch and let the turtles go back to the area around our lake as this is where they came from and I think they will be better off there.

I found a baby Fl. box turtle today while working in my yard. I have 2 aquatic red eared sliders I've had for almost 20 years, but do not know anything about box turtles...HELP! It's sooo tiny, about the size of a quarter. I was thinking to take it to a turtle rescue tomorrow but do not know how to care for it overnight. My daughter-in-law said I should put it back where I found it, but I cut down a gigantic bush that it was underneath and now I'm afraid a snake or bird may eat it, (as it's sooo small).

It has been overnight so obviously you figured out a way to care for it. You can just take it to a rehabilitator - they would know what to do and where it can be released.

I saw two turtles with long claws that looked like the Florida box turtle. They were in a man made lake in Amarillo, Texas. Long way from Florida.
