Hi, I bought my pig nose turtle as a little baby measuring 5cm. It has outgrown my aquarium and is enjoying my backyard pond with a few mates; a brazillian turtle, a 1m arapaima gigas, a florida gar, and a couple of cat fish. I never thought it could get to its current size, 45cm shell, and is doing well feeding on plant debris, fish, pellets, and plants surrounding the pond. I agree, it is one of the most interesting looking turtles I've seen. Cheers

I've just purchased 2 map turtles, they're only babies and they seem very panicky when anyone goes near them. Is this normal? Also what should I be feeding them, as i've been told they need protein rather than vitamins at this stage? So I'm feeding them blood worm cubes, is this o.k?

I've had a red ear slider for about 2 1/2 years now and his shell is about 3-3 1/2 inches long. I got him when I was about 9 or something. He is my baby! He follows me when I walk to see him, and when I feed him he tries to get out. We recently got him a bigger cage and he loves it. I call him shamoo but his real name is sammi. And now I got another baby slider, cami, a few days ago and she isn't eating, but I just think shes nervous. I keep her in a smaller cage and sammi tries to come at her, but I stay there to try to comfort her. I pick her up all the time and her nails tickle a lot. Sammi has freddy kruger nails! thats what me and my mom say:-]. I think you should consider getting RES's as a pet considering they are so easy to take care of, and they will keep a child very busy as well, as sammi and cami have done for me and my cousins :-]

I only have one turtle, her name is Cynthia. I think she is the cuttest turtle in the whole wide world. Cynthia is a female. I have a plastic tank and she sometimes tries to escape.

We live in Vilas County, Wisconsin. Imagine our surprise when we saw baby painters coming out of the ground in the Spring while there were still snowpiles around. Wondering why we saw these babies in the Spring, I looked at your web page and found that they hibernate in the northern climates. We really enjoyed watching them for two days. I even took three down to the pond which is East of our house. Thanks for the info.

Hello. I live in Kansas where ornate box turtles and sliders run wild. Four years ago I found an ornate box turtle. I made a nice large outdoor pen for him and feed him mulberries and grasshoppers. Ever since he has been a great pet. He hibernates by himself in the winter in the outdoor pen and comes up early every April. (To Adrian, it would be best to loosen up some soil by its hideout and let it hibernate by itself.) Recently, I found a mate for him about his size. They mate together. If anyone has advice about breeding this type of turtle in its natural habitat, or if it's a good or bad idea to do this, please post something to let me know.

I have a common snapper named Frank. No clue how old he is, he was hit by a car and my friend and his mom raised him back to health. He's probably about 6 inches long from the front of his shell to the back. But he's a great pet. Never vicious with me, never even attempted to bite me. And, mine actually likes being handled. He will stand on his hind legs whenever I enter the room to show me it's time for him to come out of his tank. Great pets, though.

Ringed map turtles are an endangered species - so I think it is not a PET!

I love red eared sliders. I've had, in my whole life, 12 of them. They are so sweet, they will not bite. I live by a swamp and turtles lay eggs in my yard, in fact I found one today. His name is rubix. I love gary and my 4 others; explodey, carlos, betsy, and spikeo.
