If you are wanting to know the sex? Males have claws on their front feet and their tales are longer and thicker than the female's.

I just bought a small painted turtle and named him (or her) charlie. I put him on the floor in a little playpen, and charlie sure tried his hardest to escape, he went to every nook and crany trying to find a way out! It was so funny to watch because he had an opening to get out of, but charlie would not go to the opening, and when we put him by it, he would go right back over to the corner to try!!

Hi cynthia, just about your turtles not basking. Are you sure you have a heat lamp in the tank because mine did the same and it turned out I was fobbed off with an ordinary bulb instead of a heat bulb and they were burying themselves for heat. Also they may do it, I have heard, if it is to warm to keep cool. Enjoy them though, I love mine. Fantastic and very amusing to watch.

Yes, reptiles are cold blooded and can die if they get too cold. There probably isn't much (if any) natural sunlight in the garage either - some filtered sunlight (not direct) would be good too. Does he have a UVB light and a basking lamp? You can also keep a better eye on him inside your home. If you have a space for him bring him (and the tank) inside.

I have a red-eared slider and his eyes have a film over them. This possibly came from not getting to clean out the tank like we should have. What can we do to help this?? He wonders around the tank like he cant see. If you put his food in front of him, he acts like he cant see it. We had two turtles in the tank during this time but this has only happened to one. The other turtles seems to be fine. We are very concerned about is problem we have please help??
