Hi, I have just homed a spur thighed greek tortoise and have read loads about him, but I am concerned that I am housing him in a glass varium. Although very large, most of you choose not to house this way. The place I got him from has only just started selling them and I probably know more about him than she does, which at the moment is not a great deal. This has been my dream pet since being small myself, and as an animal and tortoise lover I want to do the best I can for my friend zippy. So if anyone can help, please do. Thank you, maxine and zippy

I have my first Red Foot Tortoise. His name is Tooter and he is the most adorable creature. He has a companion, a female Russian Box Tortoise named Tina. Tooter is almost her size now and will surpass her soon. They are both very curious and playful. I put them in a small tub of water to bathe a couple times a week and allow them some play time to walk around and explore. The cats are very gentle with them and they seem to enjoy their curiosity although I always keep a close watch on them. I love to watch how excited Tooter gets when he explores and Tina too loves the feeling of being able to go where ever she wants to. I've never seen a tortoise run like she does! They respond to my voice and Tooter too, leans his head forward to touch nosed with me. Tina has things to do she doesn't care too much to be handled and spoiled but Tooter loves to have his little feet rubbed and is very fond of attention and touch.

I have a wonderful red foot named sammy. He is 5 years old. He is very sweet and curious. He loves strawberries and lettuce. But unfortunately he has some trouble walking. He lost his foot on his right leg at a young age. SO he is a little unbalanced. He is a bit shy but he loves basking in the sun and roaming around my backyard. He even gives kisses by stretching his neck out to touch noses with you. They are the most amazing animals. I love my Sammy!

When placed in the lounge our tortoise will wander around until it approaches the cables/wires near the TV when it starts to dance, sway and swivel - does anyones elses do this and is it anything I need to worry about?

I love my red foot. Her name is Lilly, and she's fantastic. I've only had her for about 6 months, and I think she is about 1 1/2 years old, she's about 4" long. She is very friendly, and her favorite time of the day is when she takes her "walk". In the winter I put the cats away and let her out on the living room floor for about an hour a day, she cruises all over the room. In the summer I take her out to the yard and let her roam around, but living in inner city Chicago unfortunately she can't be out unsupervised. Her favorite thing is cuddling, she loves to sit in my arms and rests her little head on me. She's great, and I hope I have her for the rest of my life (which is a good possibility).
