I'm writing in hope to get some good advice from people with experience on Rose haired tarantulas. I've had Rosy for almost two years now. 4 months ago I moved her into a larger tank (10 gallon) and made her the ideal enclosure (warm, deep bedding, many places to hide and climb, moist) and she hasn't eaten since. She hasn't molted in a 1 and 1/2 years. I moved her back into her original enclosure where she had been eating and molting and handle her much more (like I had in the beginning) and she still hasn't turned around. ANY ADVICE?!?! She seems to run away from anything I try to feed her like crickets and grasshoppers. I've tried provoking with tongs too and still nothing. She will die soon if I cannot get her too eat.

Hello, I have started keeping T's now for a couple of years. I am lucky enough to have 2 large Blondi girls, one about 6-7 inches and the other around 11 inches. The lady is called Seven and she has just produced an egg sac as big as a tennis ball, and now we wait! I have 26 other T's and a small Flat Rock Scorpion. Now as we are retired I have lots of time to look after them. Happy Spider Keeping to all of you!

I got a pink toe tarantula for my birthday in June from my husband and daughters. She's absolutely beautiful! I rub her legs and abdomen almost every morning. She stopped eating a few weeks ago, so I think she might be preparing for her first molt. I love showing her off to friends...even though they think I'm weird to have such a pet. If it were up to me I'd have all kinds of unique pets!

Hiya, I just thought I'd give you an update on my orange baboon bite. Over a week now and still getting random cramps, mainly legs, neck and lockjaw. Not much fun. Any sudden or awkward movements usually get a cramp response. May have a couple more weeks of this. Regards, terry

We seem to have the perfect breeding grounds, or habitat for them. We usually encounter 5 or more each summer at our home. It doesn't help that both my husband and I are terrified of spiders.

What other things do Brown Taranulas eat? Do they eat scorpions?

No they are not able to eat the scorpions, for they will die.

Just got my king baboon home today to add to my small collection of two mexican red knees, a versicolor, and an indian ornemental. It's so young it could easily sit on your little finger nail. Looking forward to watching the little blighter grow :)

nervous tarantula owner. - 2008-08-16
I just got a pink toed tarantula as a birthday gift from a friend two days ago. Never having owned a tarantula (or any insect for that matter) made me skeptical. I still am a little nervous about it, actually I just took her out of her tank/cage thing for the first time a few minutes ago. To my surprise she jumped on my head! It freaked me out so much that I screamed! She's sneaky, she'll be walking around all slow and then go into hyper speed in a second! I immediately tried to find out about it and now that I've read this I realize it's normal. But I am worried that I might hurt her by accident if she jumps or runs around all crazy all the time. She's so pretty though, and I'm learning how to handle it, even if I am still a little scared of her. I mean the poop spray? ahhh. :O I can only hope that never happens. Thanks for the info on this site...very helpful!

I just got a pink toe a few days ago. Like pink toes should be, he is very shy. He jumps a lot, but he loved it when I rub him. He stays completely still when I rub his body. A sweet nervous thing he is. But I am not quite sure what his environment should be like so he is stuck with shredded paper. It was my dads choice to put paper in the cage. He seems to sit around and do nothing, lazy bum. He is scared of his own food, and he desperately wants to get out of the cage. I hope he gets more comfortable with me. We will just have to wait and see.
