I've had my pink-toe for about a week now and I absolutely adore her! I just moved her into an new enclosure last night, with some plants and some sticks for her to climb and make her web in. I felt kind of bad doing it as she had just finished building her web in the container I received her in :(! But luckily she seems to be comfortable in her new enclosure as this morning I watched her for over an hour as she started building her web... such fascinating creatures.

Hi, I'm getting my pink-toe tonight and I'm really nervous, I don't want anything bad to happen to it, do you have any advice for a new mom? Also, do you ever handle yours?

I live in Piedmont,Ok and see a ton of these during the late summer and fall. I usually see them crawling up the side of the house. My husband told me they were wolf spiders but I googled it and it said wolf spiders only get to about two inches. These are definitely not wolf spiders because they're about four inches with the legs. I am deathly afraid of spiders and having one walk right up to me one night was a memorable experience.

I just purchased my first rose hair last week, I named her Isis, her body is about 2 inches already, so I don't think she is that young. I went to another pet store friday to purchase a larger container, and they had another rose hair, so, I bought that one also. Another female, so, I've decided to call her Arista. Her body is larger, about 2 and 1/4 inches, and her legs are about 3 inches, so I don't think she is that young either. The interesting thing is that Arista has more of a blue look to her. I read about people feeding locusts to their pets, but the pet stores where I live only carry crickets.

I have had my Terry now for 2 months. He is lovely, he is a bit apprehensive when the hubby holds him but will walk all over our youngest son and me. It is fascinating to watch him kill and eat his prey of crickets but at the moment he is letting his locust walk all over him. He may think they are too pretty to eat! If you do get 1 of these I do hope you enjoy it as much as we are. I am so glad I finally got him as a pet. xx

Hi, I have owned my red kneeded called tricky for nearly a year. He/she is called tricky due to the the way that it blasts it's hairs at me whilst trying to pick it up. He/she is a really good escapist, often finding it tricky hiding in my draws or climbing up my walls, lol.
These spiders are surprisingly strong when it comes to lids! I have now placed a weight on the lid of his\her enclosure.

I just convinced my arachniphobic mother to let me catch an Oklahoma Brown and keep him. I named him Puck after the Character in A Midsummer Night's Dream. The second day I was able to pick him up and let him crawl on me. I noticed he wasn't eating much, he's going to molt as I found out. Anyways these are great tarantulas, and I love my Puck lol. :)

P. Metallica's are actually not aggressive, as is true with most of the poecilotheria genus. The Metallicas are actually considered the least aggro. Pokies are, however, extremely skittish. They are also considerably faster than avics and such, so it is much more difficult to handle them, and it's very easy to spook them while trying to contain such a speedy animal. The bite from any pokie is considered to be among the most venomous of any tarantula, along with Stromatopelma Calceatum, Heteroscodra Maculata, as well as some Australian species(all of which are much more aggro than the average pokie). I am not suggesting that anyone take this species lightly, but if you get a pokie, do not expect the temperament of an obt, king baboon, cobalt blue, etc.

I just saw an enormous spider whilst walking my dog (Austin, TX). My husband didnt believe it was a spider and so I took him out to see if it was still there. It was. Whilst I was climbing up the walls, my husband was studying this rather beautiful creature. He has lived in Texas for 30 years and has never seen one. I am from England and in five years have never seen one. We came back inside and googled. We believe it is a Texas Brown Tarantula. I guess I should be delighted for the experience.
