Do you know what it means when the scales and skin on a royal python come off? A royal python where I work started looking ill, not eating and its skin started to look too big for its body. It has not grown since we have had it. The other day we noticed that when you lifted it from the top of its body some kind of liquid which looked like blood but more paler was filling the base of its tail. We left it a couple of days to see if it would go down but it then started leaking out and today another member of staff was trying to get the discharge off its body and the scales at the bottom of its tail slid off. Now the bottom of the body is white and the rest has its scales. What should we do and what could this be?

It is molting the outer layer so it can get bigger.

I just bought a small tangerine and she's beautiful. Does anyone know of a place with a pet guide for tangerine honduran milksnakes though?

I have a royal african python he is 38 years old. I am going on holiday and iI am thinking of putting him in boarding at a reptile pet shop do you think that this might upset him as they do use there own veriums.

As long as it is a quality reptile store.  The snake should be fine.  Check the other snakes in the shop for mites and visable diseases.

Thank you Jeremy Roche for your quick reply the pet store has a very good reputation but I will make sure the snakes they have are free from ticks and such, my royal will be housed on its own. I was concered that he would miss his own environment taking into account how old he is.  Once again thank you I will let you know how we get on which won't be untill the middle of September.

How long after it finishes shedding can the snake be fed without worrying a live rodent will hurt it's new skin?

I just purchased a RTB and a Caramel Royal Python. The sellers were so quick to get rid of them they sold them both to me for $50. They had them both in a plmastic shoe box. The seller said neither had fed in 2 months. Actually once I began to handle them I realized these beautiful creatures were severely dehyrated and underfed. The RTB wasn't round but like a flatworm and is 6 feet long and weight is 2.8lbs. When I took them home Chance RTB, at 66 hoppers and one adult, drank 1/2 cup of water. He is getting less lethargic, but any suggestions on how to build I'm up to his proper weight, he was cage aggressive but I waited until he seemed to be satisified from feeding before putting him in his tank. He didn't show any signs of biting me but wrapped loosely around my arm and laid his head in my hand and stayed there. Any ideas on how to get him safely to where he needs to be?

I run the herp aspect of a pet store in PA, and the desert kingsnake is, easily, the best snake I have ever handled or housed. They are great pets and are very beautiful.
