i have a snapping turtle for almost 3 years, but I don't no the sex, how do you know wether it is a male or a female?

The mouth it's snap is different. The male's snap is bigger than the female and the female's mouth is soft and it's bigger than the male. Welcome

You can tell by the placement of the vent in the adult snapper. In a male, the vent is about halfway down the tail. In the female, it's more between the hind legs or slightly behind. My male loves to show off his penis, so he took the guesswork out for me. (Incidentally, in the male snapper, the penis is almost black, is a simple rod shape and does not have the 'flower' look like the penises of most turtles and tortoises. The first time you see it, it looks like the turtle is pooping.)

We actually had a southern corn snake named Billy Jack and two weeks ago he escaped from his tank:( I was sooo upset this guy was sooo friendly and easy going and was almost three feet long...he hasn't turned up so I went to my breeder or new snake and fell in love with this baby snow corn snake. She's a girl which is exciting and is kinda pink and has the best pink eyes. I can't bring her home til the 24th but I'm excited to bring this lil girl home

I have a leopard tort baby and he lives in a 4x4 doorless closet. He is very healthy, eats and poops fine. My question is, when I take him outside, he is very active. Inside he eats and hides, doesn't walk around much. The substrate is a mix of Timothy and alfalfa hay. Any suggestions?

I am writing to ask your advice about buying a desert hairy scorpion - but not to keep in captivity. I want to release the animal into the wild (we live in a fairly rural area of the Sonoran Desert - and they are native here).

Can you please advise if there are any precautions to take, (e.g., best time of year to do this; reliable supplier ideally in the Phoenix Arizona, etc.).

Someone is going to go and catch them and possibly breed them or sell them You are then going to pay money back to release them. If they have been just caught - then you are paying for something that you can just go look at. If you are paying for something that is bred and has been fed - then how can you know if it will just survive? I don't understand. Regardless, where you decie to purchase it from would know the answers to these questions - at least I would hope they would.

Check the base of the tail. The females have a larger V around the tail. The females also are larger and have a more domed shell. The larger area "V" is for the passing of eggs in a mature specimen. A male will also start to form a concaveness on the bottom of their shell. This serves to mount the female in mating so the shells fit and don't slide off each other.

I am going to go on the assumption that it is not his footprints otherwise you wouldn't be concerned. It can be several things ut the two most common are a fungas or a mold. It looks sort of like large pieces or particles of a skin (as if you got sunburned and were peeling). I have no idea how you can tell the difference between the mold or the fungus but a vet can take a culture and provide you with treatment. Hope this helps.

I am sorry - I didn't think of the obvious. Iguanas molt but it is more like a peeling of dry skin. It usually isn't big patches but flakes with some patches. It would look like white flakes.

I have recently purchased my very first snake, EVER, and I have chosen a snow corn snake, and I must say HE'S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL I have ever seen. We have named him BOB as we wanted a name that no-one would forget, and so far, no-one has hahaha. At first I was very frightened about handling him thinking he was going to bite me at every opportunity, but he has never given me a reason to be scared of him, and I can feel a bond with him already (does that sound weird). I no longer feel scared of him and I am handling him now as often as I can... apart from when he's ready for feeding! I hope me and BOB have a long and happy relationship, and I can definitely say I would love to have another, but for now I'm happy.
