So do you wait for crickets that are molting and offer those? That would be very inconvenient
  • chuck - 2014-06-09
why not? I have had mine 3 years and she has had no problem with the shells.

Hi. I have three leopard geckos. They are so much fun and my family and I love them soooo much!!! We have a blizzard leopard gecko, and a tangerine leopard gecko, and one regular leopard gecko... I have a 6 year old and a 4 year old and they do great with the leopard geckos. They are a wonderful pet for kids.... They are not skittish at all, and they are not a pet you have to play with every day.. They do just fine if they do not get held every day. They are very easy to take care of as well. Very cool pets!!! :)

My RTB was very quickly moving towards our sleeper sofa's 'innerds'. Knowing he'd probably disappear in there close to forever - like an idiot I engaged in a tug of war w this 5-1/2' young adult 'strength-o-meter'. I, of course, lost. After finally getting him out by other methods, he seemed more still than usual, so I was concerned...is it possible to pull on a snake too hard and injure it? Please advise. Thanks.

I have had my baby (ok so she's 5) for quite a while. Yes when I first got her she was bratty but can you blame her? Now 5 years later she is a cuddler! Loves to be held.
I disagree with those who say it would be a bad first pet tarantula. If you read up on the breed you will know how to handle them and when to give them their space. Just like all pets sometimes they don't want to be bothered. But if treated properly the rose hair is a wonderful tarantula to have. It takes patience to get the spider acclimated to you handling it. You can't expect to get it home and immediately start handling it. It took Kiwi a good year to fully be ok with being outside her home and being handled.
I do however do not recommend any tarantula for children. Most lack the patience it takes to get the spider comfortable being held.
Also .... I have NEVER been bitten... :-)

Well I'm 12 an I just got my tarantula yesterday and she is very sweet and it likes to be held by her owner but she goes crazy when someone else tries to hold her. I'm a little worried that she might bite someone :P...

I got my husbands his (Tilly) for Valentines Day :) She doesn't mind being handled, even walks all over my five yr old boy! Best pet ever.

Sorry, NO spider likes to be handled. None. They tolerate it to different degrees but unless you have one that spoke to you or comes when you call it...

Umm Hi I'm just a little worried because I got my Rose-Hair yesterday, (Rosie!) and I don't really know her yet, so I don't know how she will act if I touch her or pick her up. Should I risk it and try it? I don't want her to bite me, or be uncomfortable please reply! Thank you!

Hi we just got one more added. They are great we got her today ftom a pet shop in leeds and she is really cute we called her sandy. As long as you take great care in picking her or him up and don't drop her. She shouldnt bite =D we treat both our spiders as if they wer a part of the family so enjoy what you got. Or if you're that worried take her back to the pet shop and ask them to pick her up for you and let her walk on your hand then your know she or he will not bite you...

We just had a female box turtle lay her eggs in our back yard. It is in a very private part of our back yard and we plan to let the eggs hatch and let the turtles go back to the area around our lake as this is where they came from and I think they will be better off there.

Good day. Actually I am also asking if turtle snake is venomous because a turtle snake was given to my wife as a pet but she is worried if it is venomous as it is being called turtle snake. If so, it is dangerous for our kids and to our household. If there is any clarification given to me I would be very glad. Thanks!

As said above, these animals are best left in the tank to observe and enjoy looking at them. NOT to be handled a lot. They are a nervous species and if they get too stressed their immune systems will lower and they could get sick. It is not always easy to recover an exotic animal when it gets sick so it is best that you take care of them well to prevent it in the first place. Please provide your turtles with all they need, places to hide, correct diet, basking light and frequent cleaning of water (more information above), in order to prolong the life of your turtle, and the enjoyment of your family. They can be a lot of work but very interesting to have.

My boyfriend has a female Goliath Bird Eating spider who is now pushing her body against the top of the cage and I think she's trying to escape. I'm very afraid of her and I am terrified she will get out. The cage is making cracking noises and I'm over it. Where can we take her to get rid of her? Thanks! Barb

Don't just get rid of her, sounds like it's time to buy a new cage.
  • Laura Foster - 2012-10-26
Defnitely buy a stronger tank. If she can reach the lid, its probably not deep enough. Does she has room to burrow? There are lots of arachnid and reptile rescuers who will take her off your hands for free. If you are scared of spiders they probably aren't the best pet for you.

If you really want to get rid of her and dont want to get a better cage i would be more then happy to help you my email is albakirk@hotmail.com

The best thing to do is release the spider to a local children's playground.

I just acquired 2 red-eared sliders from a friend who had them in an aquarium at his home.  I have had them at my home in their own pond now for 2 weeks,  they seem to be adapting well.  Today I came home to find one of them laying upside down, but not like she fell that way, in a flat area, upside down.  Is this a sign of sickness and what can I do?  I turned her right side up and will continue to observe for now.

I was fishing the Fox River in Illinois by one of the dams. I had my 2 daughters with me and I cast my pole in the water with a worm and bobber, set the pole up to rest on a rock, ran over to my kids that were in this gazebo by the river, looked at them then looked out at some other fishermen, then look down and just like that I caught a MALE spiny (found out after much research) but he was a good ways out of the water. My Girls loved him right away so I brought him home and added him to our 55 gallon corner tank that I have with a Large mouth Bass and a Green Sun fish that's the size of an adult had and they get along great, only thing I need to do is switch out the gravel bedding and put sand. My kids and the spiny are very happy. Very cool animal to watch swimming around.
