I had a lunar wrasse for about two days, he is colorful and cute. I feed it with flakes and chopped shrimps. It feeds on what I gave him. Hera that it has a long life. Very happy to have it as my pet.

We just got a Cleaner Wrasse yesterday for our 240G Reef. All the fish in the tank where lining up to get cleaned, and it was doing a great job of it. The Wrasse was also eating the smaller crushed flake food and picking at the rock work as well. Our tank has been established for about three years so maybe some of the negative "research" is being done in new tanks without the same level of biodiversity as many of us in the reef community. As long as the food that is being fed has some small particulate in the food, this fish should eat fine.

Dragon Wrasse size, almost 12 inches. Its scientific name is Novaculichthys Taeniourus (Lacepede, 1801) but it may also be found listed as Hemipteronotus Taeniourus. Thought to be a different species because of its juvenile phase appearance, this fish when young was at one time described under the name Novaculichtys(Lay & Bennet, 1839). Other common names: juveniles - Reindeer Wrasse, Adults -Rockmover Wrasse, Rock Mover Wrasse. Juveniles are suitable for a comunity tank at first but as they grow they become very aggressive. Distributation: Extends from Hawaii southward to central Polynesia, westward through Micronesa and Melanesia, through the East Indies, and across the Indian Ocean to the coast of Africa. Diet and Feeding: They are carnivores that posses two prominent teeth in the front of each jaw that are used for feeding on its favorite prey-- small fish, all types of desirable crustaceans and motile invertebrates, which includes serpent and brittle starfishes, bad bristle as well as beneficial worms, shrimps, hermit crabs, crabs, and snails. Should be fed a diet of bite sized meatfoods like fresh or frozen seafoods, silversides, live or frozen brine and mysid shrimp, live grass or ghost shrimp, live black worms, and flake food.

I have a Coral Beauty that has been scratching itself on rocks and coral lately and I have read all the articles that warn against buying a cleaner Wrasse. On my last visit to the LFS, I noticed that in every tank was at least one cleaner Wrasse. When I told the owner that many people consider this fish impossible to keep and that they would soon starve, he laughed. He threw food in several tanks and every cleaner ate. He actually lured a fish for me to buy into a cup with food in the cup placed in the water and the Wrasse went right in! My new Wrasse has picked at every fish in my tank and eats frozen prepared food like a pig. I find it hard to believe that this fish that eats everything in the tank could starve. Guess only time will tell.

I have a juvenile lunar wrasse that is about 3-4 inches. He swims non-stop and is exciting to watch. He adds much action to the tank. It doesn't seem to hunt down and eat snails but will try to eat them when you first drop them in the tank. He eats any and all food I feed him. This fish seems to be on the hunt at all times, often tricking amphipods out of holes and eating them. I definately recommend this fish as well as other thassaloma wrasses for the semi-agressive reef tank.

I am currently writing a dissertation on bluestreak cleaner wrasse and spent 6 weeks studying them in the wild. I would urge anyone who is considering purchasing them please do not as research clearly shows that they have extremely poor survival rates in captivity.
They are beautiful and very clever fish that deserve better than being removed from their natural environment and often starved to death. I would hope that anyone who owns an aquarium is a fish lover and that they would appreciate this.

Leoard Wrasses kick ***! I got mine 5 days ago and the first 2 days I could not find her, but now she is done hiding during the day in the sand and swims throughout my reef looking for food. Hard to find and I only got mine for 10 bucks. Hopefully she lives and adapts well to her new reef.

Mine went missing for a about a month. It had a regular pattern of coming out between 10 am and 5 pm, so i had to stay home from work to see it. Fantstic fish if you can get to keep them alive for more than 6 months.

I bought my lunar wrasse a year ago, his tail was still green but now is a beautifull yellow in the shape of a half moon. He is in a 150 gal tank with 2 chocolate chip starfish and a large bradley's starfish, huma huma, Black Durgeon Trigger, med snowflake eel, 2 cinnamon clowns, saddled butterfly and a very large sebae anemone (that the clowns faithfully defend from the butterflyfish or anything else that gets to close) but no crabs or snails. I tried putting 3 large snails in the tank and the lunar wrasse thought I was giving him a treat, so I quickly pulled them back out before he ate them. Every one in the tank gets along great but get a little on the aggressive side during feeding time so I try feeding them in several areas at the same time to keep them from fighting over the food. Nobody has ever been injured during feeding time. I feed my fish a combination of fresh chopped shrimp, silversides and various flake foods. I love my lunar wrasse, he is a beautiful bright greenish-blue with bright pink strips on his head and fins. Visitors who see him for the first time remark at his colors. He is active and very personal. I feel common sense is the key to keeping these fish like any fish you buy... research and understand how the food chain works.
