I just got a California stingray. It is the greatest animal I have ever kept. I found it was a good idea to get a couple of snails that bury in the sand. These help to stop unwanted bacteria from growing in the sand and they eat any food waste that would deteriate the water quality. One thing, I cannot find good info about other fish that can be kept with her. I would be interested if anyone has any info on this subject.

Hey, I'm trying to get my mom to let me get a brown banded catshark. So I wonder if you go to a petshop and ask the person that owns it if he/she could somehow order one, instead of it being shifted to me. Cause I wouldn't wanna take a risk of it being brought to me, cause something might happen!

I just bought a bamboo shark egg Saturday and it hatched the next day. I was so surprised, unfortunately I wasn't supposed to get a bigger tank for a couple weeks because I wasn't expecting him to hatch that quick. So now I have to go get a new tank, but I'm not really complaining about it! I think I'm gonna get a 150 gallon tank.

I wouldn't rush right out and buy the bigger tank you have time for it to grow.

The species of Heterodontus that require cool water (below 70F) are the Australian species. The Horned (H.francisci) is native to Southern Califonia & Mexico - generally lives in waters from 64-80F. So it actually can do pretty well in most home Aquaria.

The statement about a federal permit for Nurse sharks is incorrect. There is no such permit or regulation currently on the books. This species is a very hearty shark which has been protected from over harvest in Florida by strict commercial laws limiting collection and in the total fishery by seasonal closures.

It is not illegal, BUT, you must make sure that you are buying from a supplier who has legally obtained the shark from a Federal Seafood Wholesaler. We are shark collectors and know the laws, both state and federal. Enjoy this species, but, please, be responsible.

I bought the egg and "Shamu" hatched Christmas Eve, 2006. She is doing very well (9" from snout to tail) & my water parameters are very good. She adores eating live ghost shrimp (once a week) and defrosted silversides. She lives with a white ribbon eel, an engineer goby, a clarki clown, a blue chromis, a blue velvet damsel, a percula clown, a pencil urchin and a coral banded shrimp. She sleeps all day, & cruises all night. Temp is currently at 72.5 degrees, specific gravity at .23, pH at 8.2. I have crushed coral substrate and multiple live rock with a wet/dry filter & protein skimmer. I will be adding a refugium shortly, because I would like to add soft corals to my live rock

Lovely fish, just great for the saltwater home aquarium. I saw some on Liveaquaria.com, they sell this shark species for $69.99. Also, its been specially (tank) bred in the U.S.A. Just search for sharks in the Marine section.

The blue spotted stingray is a great pet to keep. I keep mine with a large zebra eel, a lion fish, and a snow flake eel. Very graceful swimmer, likes to eat squid and shellfish etc, keeps the bottom of the tank clean, filters the coral sand keeping it very clean, and it is easy to keep as well.
