Hello, my partner and I have a blue spotted ray aka Mr Ray. We have had him now for about six months and he seemed to be doing really well. We hand feed him so we know he is eating well. The last couple of days however the slit just above his tails on the pelvic fin looks swollen and last night it bubbled out from the inside. It disappeared after about 5 mins but we can't find anything on the internet that can tell us what this is and why it is happening. Any advice would be appreciated. Apart from that he is still swimming round the tank and letting us touch him. Thanks

    I'm not really a scientist but my recommendation is to call a proffesinal or call the aquarium. Look things up if you havent and see a stingray of a shark specialist. I'm so sorry if I wasted your time just tried to help...GOOD LUCK #9827;

In this writing it is stated..."There are no natural predators of the Great White Shark, they are at the top of the food chain."
The Killer whale is at the top of the food chain in the ocean and have even been caught on video killing a Great white shark.

    They are both at the top of the food chain and KILLER WHALES kill in packs or schools, so those aren't a fair odds. SHARKS HAVE EVEN BEEN CAUGHT ON VIDEO KILLING CROCODILES, WHALES (even killer), OTHER SHARKS AND MORE!

    These unusual and wonderful pets are not for the novice. They require some heavy experience and a very large tank as they get big. Animal World has articles on the Care and Keeping of this exotic, which might be of interest to you. I would start there and should you decide to purchase one, I would look more toward specialized breeders.

I have a California sting ray. This is my second one and I have such a hard time keeping them alive. I was curious about feeding regiments i.e.(once a day or every other day) and temperature of others aquariums who own this species of sting ray. Also what does it mean when the edges of their fins are slightly folded up similar to a contact lens and his top edges are dark brown. If you have any answers to my questions or have knowledge of these symptoms please respond back. Thank you!

    When I go fishing in my canal, the rays I see have their fins are slightly folded up, so I think that's normal.

    How did you catch them did you have to get sting before you caught them!

    The "curled up like a contact lense" look is not normal. This is sometimes referred to as "the death curl" because typically a ray that looks like that is very close to death.

I am getting one this week and I was wondering how wide do they get and also can you use a filter for freshwater and buy the same one for saltwater or will it take the salt out of the water? Please answer soon.

    Well it's best to use a saltwater filter so the water may not change if possible.
