I purchased a 2 year old 1/2 Percheron 1/2 quarter horse paint, who is 16.2 right now. He is gorgeous, sweet and really friendly and lovable. I was wondering when I should start riding him, he will be 2-1/2 in November. As I was told they develop lot slower..

When I was growing up we had quarter horses and quarter horse mixes. We would start working them at 2 years, and then by about 3 years we were starting to get on them.

In March 2010 we rescued a beautiful 18 month Percheron filly from possibly going to slaughter. With proper nutrition she has grown up and filled out. A breeder has looked at her and said she appears to be well bred and very nicely put together. All that and she is an absolute sweetheart! She will be heading to a training facility in January 2011 to start her driving training.

Shire horses...HAA (I'd love one) The shire horse was ridden by knights in medieval times.

I have wanted a horse for a long time now and I decided awhile back that I wanted a Clydesdale and I am happy to have found out that they do make good riding horses. Hopefully I'll be able to get one someday and thank you for helping me get this information.

If you walk behind a Clydesdale you will see that its back legs are perfectly straight and not 'cow hocked'. They are said to be 'close behind' and they walk with one huge back hoof placed exactly in front of the other, just as if they were still walking along a single ploughed furrow.

We have a 6 month old Percheron mix filly. We want to train her to pull a cart. Her sire is part of a team that pulls a carriage at parades and rodeos.

They say he is a friesian but he stands 18,1 hands and he is only 5 years old he has to white socks (back). Is he a friesian or a Draft horse? Thank you. Margaret

If he is 5 years old then he is probably as tall as he is going to get. Do you have papers or a reliable source on who his parents are? There's really no way to know unless you have his lineage background. It's quite possible he is just extra tall for a Friesian.
