I have a 22 year old Morgan mare who thinks and acts like a 6 year old! She's still doing 50 mile Endurance races and LOVES to jump! She has been unbelievably healthy and can be a real sweetheart when she wants to be. I've been looking at other breeds for my next horse, but none are as versatile as a Morgan!!

I'm thinking about adopting a 25year old x show jumper Morgan gelding. From a rescue. In a way I'm worried he might be too old. I plan on doing trail riding. Thanks Charlene

I have loved horses all of my life and I came across 'Gabriel' purely by accident. My neighbor and I were out hitting the local yard sales. One place we stopped at had a pretty Palimino on the back property. I commented on her. Lynn the owner said I have one for sale. It was not the Palimino however,it was Gaberiel, a 16yr old Chestnut Arabian. Lynn threw my 11yr old son up on his back and led him around the yard. Gabriel was so passive and friendly. My son had taken riding lessons over the summer but is still very much a beginner. Yet, Gabriel (Gabe)was so gentle I thought this might be a good way to continue my son in riding. To make a long story shorter ~ I told my husband (who was out of country)about him and he said get him. When I said I was scared he asked why. I told him a horse is very time consuming. He told me not to worry about it and to go ahead. So I made the jump and bought him. However, though Gabe is 16, you would not know it. Put him under sadddle and he is a different horse. The first time I got on him he went to bucking and kicking up his heels. Scared me to death. What happened to the sweet passive horse I bought?? There was no way I could put my son on him. I didn't give up though and soon I could simply give a verbal correction when he would start acting up and he would calm down. However, I realized this is not a horse for my son so I would have to be the one to become his owner/partner. I have developed a wonderful friendship with Gabriel, it took a little time for us to learn each other but he aims to please. He has learned to trust me and me him. I look forward to getting up everyday and spending time with him. I loose time at the stables and minutes turn into hours in a flash. My husband now fully understand my concern of how time consuming a horse can be ~ he has become a horse widower. Gabe is a wonderful horse, friend and companion. He has a wonderful disposition and friendly to everyone. When I think of how Gabe came into my life I believe we were ment to be. He is truely a gift from heaven.

I bought a Morgan at an auction for my daughter when she was 10 years old. She liked to hang around the race track. A lot ofpeople hit her up for a race. She out run every horse. A lot of people tried to buy him. She liked to barrel race . He couldnt change leads at the barrels. I bought her a quarter horse. He could change leads but was not near as fast as the Morgan. She then gave the morgan back to me. I never been on a better horse. I kept him until he died of old age. If I ever get another horse it would be a Morgan

So if you are unnaturally tall for your age (11) then you can still have one as a pet? Or if not, would a mustang be better for me? Thanks, please answer my question. xxxxx :)

Yes a mustang would be better but I would recommend a more calm horse

I just rescued an approximately 18 month old Percheron gelding who is underweight but not terribly malnurished at this point. I have always had quarter horses and have never owned a draft. I am at a loss as to what to feed him and when to start training him with a saddle. I have heard so many opinions and none around here has experience with a draft. Can you please give me some ideas. I know I am going to clicker train him as I did my quarters but when is my question. This is the most loving and sweetest baby I have ever rescued I don't want to discourage him from being that way.

Greetings! I have owned a Percheron Mare for 10 years now. She was a driving horse and when I got her at the age of 11 decided to try her out as a trailhorse. She took well to Natural Horsemanship and trailriding. I think that as long as you use the 'Release is Reward' way of thinking that no matter what kind of training you do, you will be fine. I am very excited for you and wish you many many years of wonderful enjoyment with this animal!

Thank you so much. My challenge with him now appears to be keeping him in a fence. He has realized he can push down the vinyl fencing and get out so he goes into everyone else's pasture. Not a fan of electric fencing but this may be the time I have to use it. Any suggestions on training him to stay in?
  • Brenda - 2014-01-07
I did not like electric fence either. With these draft horses and as big as they get you need an electric fence. It's not bad really I've been zapped a few times myself. They only have to hit it once or twice and they remember ! I have worked with the percherons for five years now and we have had as many as twelve percherons in pastures, none of them get out of the electric fence. Now the foals will go under the fence and get out. Once they touch the electric fence they remember. It is for their safety...

Hi. I have a 13 yr old part Arabian. I had to put her at a boarding ranch just about a month ago. And they only feed her 2 flakes a day but every time I go. It's like she is starving. Not just a lill nibble here and there. I'm talking about grubbing down like she is super hungry. I ask the ranch owner who is a trainer and he says she's ok. But I think she needs more. Any suggestions..

I like to free feed my Arabian horse. I notice he likes to chow down off and on all day. Put him on pasture or insist on his getting fed 3x's a day. I feed a good 25 lbs @ a time.

Hi I am trying to reach a go to Arabian haven ranch because I have a 3yr old Arab mare. I have some questions about her and would love to ask the ranch owner or who ever knows the Arabian breed. I have had 3 and they are amazing animals andalways my first choice but I have never dealt with one like mine and I want to see about things I can do more for her and are safe but I can't get to it from my phone. Please if Arabian haven ranch sees this or someone knows how to reach them please let me know or anyone who has a great deal of knowledge about Arabs please contact me my email is morganw1987@yahoo.com thanks to all have a wonderful night.

For many years I have been a dedicated TB person until a friend sent me their National Show Horse to train English since she wanted to sell him. He had only done trails with no formal training. His intelligence and willingness made it an absolute delight to work with this horse. I ended up falling head over heels for him! When introducing a new movement to him, he would actually talk back to me by whinnying when he got it! I have never had a horse in all my years of riding that would express his joy and pride in himself when he understood what you were asking him to do!

I bought a 4 year old Islandic in April 2013, I have done loads of groundwork and have now backed him, my question is his feet are so small, my farrier said he is rather flat footed, I have now had front shoes on him, can anyone tell me if this is normal for the breed? I love him to bits, but I don't know anything about the breed. Thank You Carole

I suggest you talk to Icelandic Horse experts. A good place to start would be the organization, United States Icelandic Horse Congress (USIHC), that is an official registry for this breed. They have many members and I bet they could answer this and other detailed questions about your horse. Good luck!
