Morgan horses are spirited, but are they jumpy and highstrung? I am looking for a first horse and I am afraid of horses when they are highstrung. Thanks.

Well any horse can be high-strung, but Morgan horses generally aren't too high-strung. Other good ones are Quarter Horses and Paint Horses.

It depends upon the type of Morgan family the Morgan horse you select comes from. I have a 'Show' Morgan and this type is spirited, sassy, proud yet stubburn and defiante. She can be a handful if you are hardhanded or give poor cues in how to work her. She is more like a performance horse. A friend of ours has a 'Working' Morgan and that type is easygoing, lighthearted with a willingness to be your companion. It's this type of horse which most persons envision owning. They are kind of like the Paint horse or maybe even a Quarter horse. But, please check out what his/her lineage is before you commit yourself to the Morgan horse. I love our 'Show' Morgan, she is alot of work and full of sass but she is well worth the time and effort put into her.

Hi Syed, It's nice to know that you're interested in getting a marwari horse for yourself but I'd like to give a hint to you about the hassles of keeping a pet, especially a horse, they live for 30 years and need a lot of care on daily, weekly and monthly basis. So better start with joining a horse training school first and when after 6 months you still feel like having a horse of your own GO to animal fairs at Pushkar, rajasthan or Nagaur, rajasthan or to Sonepur, Bihar or contact Jodhpur equestrian club or any other reputed farms like Sarli farm 09779050700 or other such farms they will provide you a horse according to your needs.

I really am sorry you were thrown. Not fun, been there down that a whole bunch of times. You would have thought I would have learned. You can't get mad at a bicycle cuz it ran into the curb. You can't get mad at the curb for being there. You can't get mad at the stair cuz you tripped. You don't get mad at the horse cuz you got tossed. You get right back on and take it slow and easy - maybe just walk in the coral area for a few days. Wait until you are relaxed and comfortable. Walk - and walk until you and the horse are comfortable. Have someone with you. Now, if you believe the horse is ill, ill tempered, out of control - have a vet come out and check the horse.

Well clearly you are a novice rider! And No they are not! All horses bucked someone off. If you were riding a BROKE horse and riding PROPERLY that probably would not have happened.
  • eva - 2012-02-26
You are a beginner no horse is bad. Bad ones are all only either untrained or mistreated.

Wow NO! I have been around lots of TW and SSH! But the Haflinger is a beautiful, well mannered, amazing horse! The first time I got on my geldings back I trusted him with my life. I will NEVER ride anything but a Haflinger ! God sent is that breed!

All haflingers are not like this. I have one and she is so sweet! She tries so hard and she can even go on the bit very well. She is so cute and chunky!

Our Clydesdale has growths under her feathers about 4 inches up from backside of all four of her hooves. They look like duclaws or very weird growing nails. Any idea what this is?

I have been told by my farrier that these are perfectly normal, and when you get your horses feet trimmed next ask the farrier to cut them off. I have to admit I was a bit freaked out when I saw them for the first time.

I was disappointed in the comments toward the person bucked off a haflinger. My mare threw me the first time I got on. She was sold as a professionally trained horse and she was professionally ruined! I was very upset because I bought her long distance and trusted the woman who sold her to me. After plenty of tears and the woman refusing to take her back I had her re-trained by a wonderful man. It was touch and go but she finally came around. My trainer told me she was afraid of people. From what he could tell she was spurred and yanked in training and it nearly made her have a nervous breakdown. That was 5 yrs ago and I still have Lucinda and love her very much. She has not done a mean thing since. I have had horses all my life but never one that was abused. Do not be so quick to blame the person that was thrown! My mare was lucky I spent the money and found a good trainer. Many would have put her down or sent her to slaughter. Thank God my story has a happy ending!

I'm 11 years old and I just got a 3 year old horse and she's fixing to have a colt. Will she do any thing to harm it if I go in to take care of her? Please reply.

I'm possibly (hopefully) going to get a horse. I'm really interested in the appaloosa breed, but I am an english rider, and I don't know if the breed would do well as a hunter jumper? And also is this breed cheap? Like Vet wise and Health.

The Appaloosa horse is a hardy breed, but will require the same equipment, care, feed and veterinarian services as other durable breeds. The average cost of maintaining and caring for a horse can run about $2,500 and up per year.
