My life dream was to own a lippizzaner horse for a trail riding horse. I live in Hillsboro, Ohio 45133. Would it be possible to purchase one and how much do they cost? I was interested in a filly. That way I could bond with it as it grows up. I know that you can not ride them until their at least 4 years old. That doesn't matter to me. Just the thought of being able to have one would mean everything in the world to me. Would it be cheaper in price if I ordered a slight older one. What do you think? Where would the closest place be to me that I would be able to purchase one? I am looking very forward to hearing from you.

Thank you so much,

Lipizzans make great trail horses! They are calm and tend to stop and look when something concerns them rather than spook and run away. They have good feet and are comfortable to ride. The mares are strong minded but will try very hard for you if you are loving and fair to them. Don't try to dominate a Lipizzan mare! She won't put up with harsh treatment! I know I have been a long lover of Lipizzans and have bred them. Right now horses are pretty easy to find - even Lipizzans. Look on for those that are for sale. Foals and older horses are cheaper. And at times there are some that are available for free from those who just want a really good home for their horse.

I live in Alberta Canada and have a 6 year old quarter horse. I have a question. I've been told my horse wont grow a winter coat if I put a blanket on her. Is this true? Thanks love your site.

I don't think so. I lived in Flordia and had 3 miniatures and it doesn't get cold in Florida and they grew a winter coat. Seasonal growing a winter coat and shedding has to do with time of year for most animals. A cat or dog, living in a home in Florida will still grow a winter coat and shed the winter coat. Birds will aquire a winter coat (or down) even while in the home and never outside. It is cold up there in Alberta, beautiful but it gets cold. Nature takes care of its own in many ways and the winter (heavier) growth is just a part of that.

Since you live in a fairly cool climate your horse (like most breeds) should grow a winter coat even with a blanket because it is a natural thing for them to do. But the older a horse gets, sometimes not always, the horse will have trouble growing a winter coat. That is when you should look for a type of pellet food that will help with fur growing.

I have a 10 yo QH mare, bought her last summer and no, she doesn't grow a winter coat. I don't know if it's the breed or simply due to the fact that every since she was 3 she was blanketed...

When I was young, I wanted a horse in the worts way and my dad kept saying no as there was no place to put him. I thought if I cleaned out the garage really good, then I could put it in the garage. Dad still said "NO" Anyhow got a little older and rode all the time - someone elses horses but I didn't have to clean the garage again either.
