german rottweilers - 2013-03-06
Rottweilers are mostly not scary and dangerous if treated properly. I have a female rottie who is about 3 years old. Rottweilers are good pets when treated properly.

I have been told fairly consistently to not breed a female dog until it's second heat - which is usually around a year old.

You should until she is at least 2 years of age, to be fully developed and mature enough (mentally also)for motherhood. Of course, she shall only be bred after passing hip and elbow exam. Not to mention if she has correct temperament and only to a sire that has the same and compliments her look.

Almost. They come in black but with usually some tannish red around their feet and undersides.

I got a dog about 6 months ago, it's small and a mixed breed. He is sharpai, german sheperd, and great dane. I'm going crazy because I can't get him to stop chewing on every thing and stealing too. And I can't seem to find a dry dog food he will eat. Can you please help me.

Chewing is a natural behavior in puppies, but in adults its could be related to any number of things. It could be that he doesn't know what's acceptable to chew on, could be bored, or may have some type of a separation anxiety or fear related anxiety. Maybe he craves more attention or possibly you haven't established yourself as the 'pack leader'yet providing enough discipline and guidance. There's a bunch of different things you can try like increasing interactive time, providing specific toys for him, and setting acceptable rules. You may want to consult a behavior professional. The food could be related to the same problem, but its a good idea to have him checked by a veterinarian to make sure he's healthy.

I just love the Newfie dog and not just because I'm from the same island as the breed. They are beautiful animals, and I hope to have one or two of my own real soon. I did have a pet that was part Newfie that was mixed with the black variety Labrador Retriever. Trigger, was the runt of the litter and he turned out to be one of my best friends. He had the look of a Newfie but was smaller than both breeds, and the bonus was he didn't drool at all, and barely shed his coat. I haven't seen many mixes between the Labbie and the Newfie, but if someone wants an average size dog, that doesn't eat a lot, doesn't drool much, and has a coat that hardly sheds, this kind is the best of both breeds. They are protective of the family and will do the same as the full breed Newfie, standing between the aggressor and his family. All in all, either the Lab or Newfie, or a mix between the two, you can't go wrong with either.

I know. She breeds and shows her dogs-I'm sure if there was a dog that had some kind of phsyical or medical flaw she would not even consider buying it (and she would not question her love for the breed.)

I have a St. Bernard Shepperd mix. She is such a cute sweet heart. We got her as a puppy. She was a little bit of a dog, then she turned a lighter brown and was named bitsy.

We have 2 Giant Schnauzers and one mini-schnauzer. Our male giant just had his second toe removed and we are waiting for biopsy results, but expect it is skin cancer, the same thing that caused the removal of his first toe six months ago. Never knew black dogs were more susceptible to skin cancer. We hope this will be his last bout with cancer.

We adore our big wooly bear dog. Pablo, our 3 year old Giant Schnauzer, follows us from room to room, obeys very well (except for the occasional selective hearing if he air sniffs an irresistable scent). Giants are the absolute best breed for any family who desires a dog that will be actually under your feet. . . literally!!

They are neat pups - good personality and non barkers and lay around with the family.
