WOW! How wonderful is my Noots. He is a apple head chawawa. After reading your reading the information on feeding him... I must change his food. I wondered why he was getting so fat so quickly. He is only 1 year old. Ceasars dog food is NOT good for him. So....Noots is only getting brown rice and a little chicken from now on. I wonder how to get rid of the dark half moon developing under his seems crusty?

I have a 3 1/2 month old blue apple head chihuahua. Her name is Maggie and she is awesome. We are still working on potty training, does anyone have any good potty training tips?

My daughter has a 2 1/2 pound mixed pup and she swears by the wee wee pads.  I have always had good luck with hanging the leash on the door knob.  When the pup has to go to the potty, they would play with the leash.  People say remove water and food after 8.  If they look like they are looking for  place to go - get them out quickly.  1/2 hour after eating and when they wake up.  All will work out - but sure takes patience.

I HAAATE the wee wee pads. That teaches them to go inside. Its also a sure sign of someone who is too lazy to do the work of taking them out regularly when you're traing them. Small dogs are quick learners and they don't usually like to go anywhere near their home. That's why they usually like to go into a neighbors yard. there's my 2 cents. dave

I received an applehead chihuahua for my birthday July 3 from my husband and son. Her name is Molly. She is only 4 months. She is white and brown with a black spot on her back and around the left side of her tail. Training her to pee and poop on the training pad was not as hard as I thought it would be. I can let her loose the house and have noticed she will go to the utility room where her training pad is and pee or poop.  I am so proud of her.

I would start by reading the above article from Animal World.  Chihuahua's a a little more prone to allergies or smells  than many dogs and often require 'testing' foods till you find one they like.  Initially you can just do the food (but pick a good one) and put a teaspoon full of yogurt on it.  They do sneeze or wheeze and it is normal.  They are a little stubborn but it is sorta fun - remember you are supposed to win with training.  Reward - even just a little cheerio helps a lot.

My dad is getting me an applehead for my birthday, so this helped me with a lot of my questions except one; can you leave them in a cage for extended amounts of time? I have to go too school so I can't take care of them all day.

I can tell you from owning one that they like to be in warm cozy places, if you teach your chi to pee on a wee pad you can leave the cage open and he/she, will most likely spend the day waiting for you to return. The answer is not for extended periods of time, unless it's a big cage, and you include a wee pad, water and food.

We just got a little black and white long haired apple head last Tuesday! He is the love of our lives - well, our cats are too - but he is such a sweetie! He is now 9 weeks old and is very smart! He learned his name (Zero - partly because he weighs next to nothing, and also after the ghost dog on 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' in just a few days. He came pee pad trained from the breeder, and is doing well with eliminating on the pads as well as outside when we take him. He's currently 1.5 lbs. His mom is 4 lbs and his dad is 9 lbs. He takes after his mom in colouring, coat and bone structure, so we think he will be small. We've seen 2 of his siblings and they are twice his size already - although, he's not the runt. Great little dog! Wonderful in the car, wonderful with other dogs and cats and super with other people - although he's become very attached to me since I've been off work for a few days. He's warming up to my husband quite nicely. :D
