I have a year and a half year old male long-haired Chihuahua named Riley. He is the sweetest dog I have ever known. He is a great guard dog because he hears everything! He has two big sisters, a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Sadie and a Catahoula named Dallas. They are so gentle with him and absolutely adore him. He is very scared of small children and runs from them. (that is the only bad thing I can think about him) I think that Long-haired Chihuahuas are best suited for individuals who have no children and are looking for a doggie companion. They require a lot of attention and just want to be with you always. I love my little man!

I recently had a beautiful male Long-haired Chihuahua, fawn colored and what an amazing companion he was. He was taken from me recently by an ex-fiance, I did purchase him for her and he was in her name so it goes without saying, he belonged to her and would never tear him away. However I am looking for a breeder and soon. Would anyone have any information at all on this dog as I am missing him so very much it hurts. Please can anyone point me in the right direction? Money is no object, however the bloodline is very important to me. I'd love to hear from anyone on this subject, please, please respond. This is not an easy breed to find, and I am just really heartbroken over all of this. Breakups are bad enough, to lose an amazing dog like the one I had is down right killer.

Thank you all very much for listening,
Eric Martin

Yes, money is no object to me either. I found and thoroughly checked out munchkinpups and will be picking up my new girl "Foxy" at noon tomorrow. My 12 year old son and myself are flying to Sacramento to pickup Foxy and bring her home to our beach cottage.. Check her web site by the same name. Good luck Ted

Try looking on Craigs lists. Here is another link that might help. I don't know where you live but if you are too far away I am sure she could recommend somebody in your area.

I have 3 yr old male Long Hair Chihuahua, and he's such a great little dog, Very easy to take care of. He's light brown with blue green eyes, He's not aggressive at all, He's a very kind dog. He loves to play fetch, he is so smart, I had him since he was 3 weeks old, He does hide and run from my 5 yr old daughter, But when we come home he's always happy to see my 5 yr daughter. My Daughter just loves him! And he loves her.

Hello I am VERY interested in this chihuahua and was wondering if you could send him to Los Angeles, CA
  • shelley - 2010-11-08
Beware of sending a dog to anywhere across country they are scams and will use dogs for fighting or testing if you find some one far away ask to speak on phone with them and I guarantee they will never want to do this I had problems with scammers when trying to place a Rottweiler they may also use your info for credit scams.

My 4 month old long coat Sebastian is getting bad dandruff. The vet had told me to use oatmeal shampoo on him but now I am wondering if there is something else I should use. Does anyone suggest anything?

I have a 11 year old female chihuahua and she had surg. Had two spots removed and most of her teeth. She doesn't want to eat much, because she has congested heart and she takes 1/2 water pills 4 times and day and 1/2 a heart pill. She has had most of her teeth pulled. Is there something I can give her to boost her immune system and what food?

Just a thought... but puree your dogs food! Then all she has to do is lick up her food. I would buy a can/pouch of "wet" dog food, you may have to add a little water when you blend it.

I purchased a puppy thinking it was a morkie (maltese / yorkie). Since purchasing her we have fallen so in love with her. She has a wonderful personality - very independent and strong willed. I didn't see the morkie qualities in her and asked my vet what he thought she is and he said a long haired chihuahua. She sheds pretty badly and that is one quality I did not want. I can't get rid of her now that she is a family member. Do you have any suggestions what to do about the shedding?

Me and my family got a 6 week old chihuahua. He is the sweetest little thing. He gets freaked out if people he dosen't know pet him. He likes his belly rubs and is very playful. We are recently potty training him. We feed him a non salted greenbean every now and then, it is said to be good for the dog. Any tips on potty training?

Best thing you can do is crate train your dog look on web site for crate training. I have a 8 month old and a 5 month old both doing great on crate training and I also have an exercise pen inside I keep them in when I can't watch them in the house.

Hum you need to make a loud almost at at at sound every time she barks say it and then say no, barking it is a repetitive thing you will have to do for a while or try to use a can empty soda can and put coins in it every time she barks shake it near her and tell her no barking.

My long haired chihuahua is shedding excessively! She has never shed like this, her hair is everywhere. I brush and the hair just keeps on coming. I could brush one area a number of times and just keeps getting lots of hair. She has no bald spots or anything.

Try Salmon Oil. Usually, most animals should not have 'excessive' shedding. Supplementing with oil will immediately remedy this (and increase the sheen of their coat).

My 5 yr old chi shed excessively when I first got him, the vet told me to add flax seed oil to his diet, I did this and can't believe the improvement.
  • Anonymous - 2010-10-22
There is a shampoo at wal mart for shedding.
  • shelley - 2010-10-27
You need to maybe change her food I am a chihuahua breeder and I feed my dogs Natural Balance it has limited ingredients and I find my dogs shed less it comes in dry and can food and you can only buy it in a pet store the supermarket will not have it.

I just picked up an eleven month old male rescued chin on Monday. He had originally been with a breeder. No known abuse. The rescue foster dad had about 7 chins that ran around freely using wee-wee pads, covered mattresses, etc. Very happy environment for the puppies. I already have a 6 mo.old female chin who is almost completely trained. I have taken the dogs out at least every 3 hours, walked in the woods, walked on sidewalks, walked through the lawns, in streets, etc. My little guy will not go potty outside. I stay out for 20 minutes, often. He will come right back in, and may or may not go potty on the pads. More often than not he goes on the carpet. I am very discouraged. I am at home all day, retired, and he has not been crate trained so I feel like a prisoner. Help! I love watching them play. They are so sweet, and sleep all night with us, but what can I do to transition him from his complete freedom to an outdoor potty pup?

Hey Beverly. I just bought a 10 week old Chin 5 days ago. The breeder told me that she puts a kitty litter box filled with "Feline Alpine" in their pen when they are 3 weeks old, and at 4 weeks they begin to use it to pee and pooh automatically. She doesn't know how they know that's where they need to go and use the restroom, but they just do. So, when I adopted my Chin I just put the kitty litter in her pen that I bought from PetSmart and she automatically used it to pee. The next day I took some of her pooh and dirty kitty litter and spread it outside on the grass and put her in it and told her to "go potty". It took a day to get her to understand what I wanted her to do. I pointed to the grass and told her again "make potty" and she did. The day after she began pooing outside too. I had one little accident before she got used to the idea of going outside and she did have one little accident in her pen because I removed her kitty litter and forgot to put it back in for a couple of hours. But, overall, if she isn't going outside she is going in her litter box. Very exciting for me! This will work for you too. Just be patient and repetitive about your process. They are very smart. I just got her 5 days ago and she has already learned to sit and stay. I repeat, you must be patient and repetitive with them and give them lots of praise. I read somewhere that they understand the human language better than any other breed. So, go out and buy a puppy pen, some Feline Pine and a kitty litter. Put all this together and put the Chin in the pen. Do not let him out unless he's either gone outside or in the kitty litter. This the discipline that you must be strong on for your sake and his. Or use a crate do apply the same discipline. When you feed him, only feed him twice a day and then take him straight outside to that area with the dirty kitty litter or dirty pee pad (if you don't want to use the kitty litter) and voice out "make potty". If he doesn't go right away walk him around and go back to that area again and tell him "make potty". Do it over and over. The key is to walk him and keep saying those words and be firm about it. If he hasn't gone yet, then you must keep him in the pen/crate until he does. Only when he potty's outside will it be okay to let him run around the house as a reward for his effort, but only for a little while. If he goes outside you MUST praise him. Tell him "good boy! Good boy!" and pet him lovingly to show him how happy you are for what he did outside. He will understand that what he did is pleasing you, and that is all these Chin's strive to do - please us.

If he won't go outside put him back in the pen/crate and repeat the process until he understands that going outside is where you want him to potty. Even if he cries, don't allow him to run around the house without peeing or poohing outside first. Breaking your puppy from this horrible habit is the start of a well discipline and balanced dog. I hope this helps! :-D
