I've got 2 chihuahuas. 1 is a short coat (female), 1 is a long coat (male). They are very sweet. The only problem is our female is jumping on our male very roughly, because we just got him. I also have 1 daughter and they never nip at her or bite her....

If your female was there first then she is just showing him who is boss like hey I was here first this is my place my rules she will hump him. I had the same thing happen to my 2 they will try to dominate each other.

its okay usually, because even though long haired chihuahuas are very loyal to their owners, they can be sometimes agressive to strangers. that is because they aren't as socialable as dogs like golden retrievers. usually if they are too aggressive and actually seem to hurt each other, it best to separate them for a period of time and wait for your chihuahua to become more use to her surroundings. hope it helps :)

She must be eating or she would be really lethargic and then not moving. They dopn't eat much - seems impossible how little. If you are giving her that little piece of toast in the morning, that little piece of chicken from your salad for lunch etc - then she isn't eating her food cuz she knows there are better things.

The other response is very accurate. A little corner of this and that throughout the day will often be equivalent to your dogs daily caloric needs. And little dogs who weigh (on average) four to seven pounds don't require much!
A quality brand of food intended for the specific breed recommended. Mine eats Royal Canin for Chihuahuas. It was a suggestion by the woman with the rescue who knows the breed very well.

Oh my heavens....I cannot believe the vaccines recommended....the vet org has finally said they're only needed every 3 years and the rabies vax has always been every 3 years! AND they ALL cause massive problems from skin issues right on up to cancer. http://truthaboutvaccines.org/

I have heard that as well. However, if you ask the doggie daycare up the street from me you will hear a VERY different story! I don't allow my dog near other dogs all that often and think these really small breeds are vulnerable to toxicity issues but that hardly makes a dent in the minds of the people who run the daycare/boarding facility. It leaves me in a pinch whenever I need to find a safe place to put "puppy" up at the last minute.

We found a long-haired chihuahua in our barn in May. It took about 2-3 weeks before she let us touch her. Once we could hold her I immediately took her to the vet. She is about 3 yrs old. She is very shy around other people but is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever seen and beautiful. All of that said, we have another chihuahua that we've had 5 yrs that we got when she was 6 wks. old and is very friendly and out going and has even grown to love our grandchildren. Will our newest member of the family grow out of her some of her shyness eventually? We go camping a lot and take our dogs. I would love to see her be a little friendlier with people. Must admit though she is a good watch dog. We love our babies.

Chihuahua's are sometimes timid - yep we know that. We don't know what went on with this one before she was found by you and so we can understand why she would be more shy or afraid of other people. I would think the more she is socialized and out and sees other people and is around your other little one, the less timid she would be. They are sweet pups and I would think she would grow out of some of her shyness, especially seeing the behavior of your other one. Good luck with them both.

I have what is supposed to be a Havanese, looks and acts like a Havanese, is very sweet, etc., etc. One thing though -- he is 25 pounds now! When I got him, he was a rescue dog and weighed 22.5 pounds and was thin. Everything I've read says they weigh a lot less. Height to his withers is 11.25". I think he needs to lose about 2 pounds. Is he a Havanese? I also thought maybe he was a Tibetan Terrier, however, his legs are short like a Havanese.

I have a purebread Havanese and he is 3 1/2 now and 24 lbs. He is at his healthiest when he is 22 lbs. Havanese can get this big! I have a second 1 1/2 yr. old and he is only 9 lbs. Really, it all depends on the parents, but there is quite a range! They are sweet, funny dogs though, aren't they?

    Hallo Brenda,
Your maxi-Havanese is just darling! Maybe a little bearded Collie a couple of generations back. Surely there is some other dog beside Havanese in him.
I have a Havanese, pedigree dates back to Pillowtalk`s, she weighs 5 kg.
Well, unusual situations, require an unusual handling - Your Maxi-Havanese is a very special one, this kind can not be bought anywhere. How about this?
He looks a little like my other dog, I brought him to Germany from Turkey, a big big darling.
All the best for you and Maxi-Havanese,
    best regards from Germany
    (Mrs.) Heike Kaden

I actually use a q-tip to clean my pugs wrinkles. They work much better than anything else. They are very lovable dogs and love to snuggle. :D
