Sarah - 2010-11-20 My family has a five year old long-haired chihuahua and he's very loving to all of the members of the family, however, he does not like strangers right away and does not get along well with young children. I suspect if raised with them he might (most children are brats who pull at his tail and get in his face without taking warning to his growls so a nip serves them right) but as it is now it's better just to keep him away from them. He is a wonderful watch dog and very protective of the house and us. He is adorable and quite large for a chihuahua (around 8-12 lbs) depending on the part of the year. The vet has never had a problem with this, he's just big for the breed. He loves to play and is very excitable, sometimes it might cause him to wheeze slightly. I must warn you that this breed is very jealous and we had to get rid of our cat for this reason. (The cat simply went from purring and loving us to sulking, and for good reason I think. I still feel sorry for him.) Regardless he is very cute and I think the breed provides long companionship for those wanting it.

Christie - 2010-11-14 I have a year and a half year old male long-haired Chihuahua named Riley. He is the sweetest dog I have ever known. He is a great guard dog because he hears everything! He has two big sisters, a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Sadie and a Catahoula named Dallas. They are so gentle with him and absolutely adore him. He is very scared of small children and runs from them. (that is the only bad thing I can think about him) I think that Long-haired Chihuahuas are best suited for individuals who have no children and are looking for a doggie companion. They require a lot of attention and just want to be with you always. I love my little man!

Eric Martin - 2010-06-03 I recently had a beautiful male Long-haired Chihuahua, fawn colored and what an amazing companion he was. He was taken from me recently by an ex-fiance, I did purchase him for her and he was in her name so it goes without saying, he belonged to her and would never tear him away. However I am looking for a breeder and soon. Would anyone have any information at all on this dog as I am missing him so very much it hurts. Please can anyone point me in the right direction? Money is no object, however the bloodline is very important to me. I'd love to hear from anyone on this subject, please, please respond. This is not an easy breed to find, and I am just really heartbroken over all of this. Breakups are bad enough, to lose an amazing dog like the one I had is down right killer. Thank you all very much for listening, Eric Martin Click For Replies (6)

debbi Parvin - 2010-06-20 I have a 11 year old female chihuahua and she had surg. Had two spots removed and most of her teeth. She doesn't want to eat much, because she has congested heart and she takes 1/2 water pills 4 times and day and 1/2 a heart pill. She has had most of her teeth pulled. Is there something I can give her to boost her immune system and what food? Click For Replies (3)

Bonitta - 2009-07-16 I purchased a puppy thinking it was a morkie (maltese / yorkie). Since purchasing her we have fallen so in love with her. She has a wonderful personality - very independent and strong willed. I didn't see the morkie qualities in her and asked my vet what he thought she is and he said a long haired chihuahua. She sheds pretty badly and that is one quality I did not want. I can't get rid of her now that she is a family member. Do you have any suggestions what to do about the shedding? Click For Replies (2)
