This is an amazing, charismatic and energetic breed. Please know that these bundles of energy bond quickly, try extremely hard to please but do forget their manners from time to time. They need a firm, fair owner who will not stint on the love and affection that they thrive on. This breed is NOT for folks that are not active. GSP's do best when they can run off leash and sniff around in hunting mode. I can't imagine my life without my GSP who is funny, loyal, extremely smart, hard-headed athletic hunter/companion/best friend.

I own 3 GSP's and plan on owning them the rest of my life! They are incredible dogs, very intelligent, loving and eager to please. They DO need exercise, but are easily trained provided you keep their attention. They REQUIRE human companionship, do NOT leave this dog outside by himself!

English Setters are wonderful dogs but they are dreadful puppies! If you can survive the first 18 months with one, you are home-free. You will need an ample supply of bitter-apple products to protect your wooden furniture (particularly chair legs) and I would strongly advise obedience training. But they really are fantastic dogs once they mature - loving, loyal, sweet-natured and cuddly.

Sounds like you were busy ---- they are excellent pets though. Puppies can be a pain at times but they are cute.

You are SO right about them being dreadful puppies! Ours wasn't a chewer but was always into or up to something. He's such a good boy now at two that you'd never know he was such a little hellion for the first few months!

Stop...don't believe everything you read (on the internet in particular.)I've had many dogs of all breeds - 'drop-out' seeing eye dogs, dogs from'Pet Finders.com,' - etc. My only 'pure' dog was kind of pushed upon me by my youngest daughter. Her first great love was the son of a family who, for generations, has bred and trained champion fied trial and bird hunting, English setters. I have to admit that my Grouse Ridge English Setter is the greatest, loving addition to our family. That INCLUDES from her puppy-hood. GROUSE RIDGE ENGLISH SETTERS are supreme Englisg Setters!

It sure is a cute Chocolate Labrador! As you can see by the credits, the picture originated from Wiki Commons as a public domain photo. Perhaps they can help you find the owner. Good luck!

I love this dog honestly, But i think it is expensive for really know reason. All dogs prices are unbelieveable to me and probably some other people too. Like I would really go to the store and by a 1,000 dollar dog please you must be crazy. But that is my opinion. All dogs gave they own special things about them and some just are plain. The ones that are plain prices should be lowered.

You are going to love your vizsla puppy! Vizslas are sensitive, very smart dogs. Loves people and company! They do need a lots of walk! Please, lazy people do not buy them, they are going to go nuts inside a small apartment! Running, hunting, investigating is in their blood, they need to burn the energy like a 5 year old toddler!:) If you see your vizsla's rib, please, give some REAL food!:) of course, who else then a hungarian vizsla lover!:)

I have a 14-yr-old Black Lab, Noelle, that I love with my life. She has much gray on her muzzle (& elsewhere) now, but she is just as beautiful as the day we brought her home. She is very loving, affectionate, always striving to please & keeps the household in order reminding the other 3 pets of their place within. She often reminds them that she's 'the boss'. Many years ago my family had a female Black Lab, Misty, that lived almost 13 yrs. She came to live with me while I was on maternity leave until her death. We also had a beautiful, gorgeous female Golden Retriever, Amberlinn, who we lost at 4-1/2 yrs. old when my son was in 5th grade. A year or so after Amberlinn's death, we were so lucky to find the breeder who had Noelle's parents. I missed Amberlinn so desperately; I couldn't believe we had another beautiful little girl Labbie. I am an animal person having been raised with a combination of dogs, birds & fish & I feel that the Labbies truly fill your heart. While I would be very happily in love with many different breeds, there's just something that Labbies do to grab your heart; they are truly my top choice. I cannot imagine never living with a Retriever.

Yep, you are an animal lover - great.

It could be that she has a short coat. Since Goldens aren't like Poodles or Bichons, whose hair needs to be cut every 4 weeks because it keeps gnwoirg they do not shed their coats there isn't anything you can give her to encourage hair growth. However ..Thyroid disease is very common in Goldens and one of the side effects is a very poor coat. It will be dry and short and sometimes thin. Of course there are other symptoms but this is usually the first one owners don't usually associate it with anything 'medical' so it goes undiagnosed until other problems develop it is detected with a blood test. Dogs with thyroid disease are put on medication and once regulated their coat fills in and thickens up becoming shiny and healthy.

Your lab is most likely passing gas due to what he is fed. Make sure you are feeding them a high quality dog food and not much (if any) people food. People food in general is not good for dogs. Lots of carbohydrates including starches and fibers can cause them to not digest their food all that well and cause gas. Also, if they swallow too much air while gulping down food, this can also cause gas.

My dobie did this quite a bit and it was the food. Big Time. I called the breeder and she recommended Eukanuba and said that is what she fed. I fed Euknuba to all my dogs after that and no problem.

Thanks Karen for the great tips and reminders. I've nocetid a huge difference in the dogs I was caring for when I cut down on their dog food and added a mixture of rice, veggies and other leftovers such as beef juices when I made a roast. The dogs that had skin issues cleared up and the older ones seemed to be more energetic. Just like with us, too much junk food isn't good for them.
