We just got a 1.5 year old female Boston Terrier and we couldn't ask for a more loving playful dog, although she does have issues being in a crate or being left alone. She poops in her crate as soon as she is left alone, even if she just went prior to being left alone. Anyone with any advice feel free to advise. She is not going anywhere, it would just be nice to fix these issues.

Maybe this will work get a smaller crate.....the one you have may be too large, dogs generally do not go in their sleep area.

I have a female Golden Retriever and she's almost 4 years old. She is loved by everyone in the family and she even loves her small companion the female Shih Tzu. They always play together and often compete for their attentions, but they do get along. We give both of them same amount of attentions. One thing about her is that now I own two rabbits and I have the dog gate to keep them (both dogs and rabbits) apart and she always put her nose through the gate to watch my rabbits. Silly girl. :-)

They would probablyjust play. My daughter had 9 bunnies and 2 dogs and now just 2 bunnies and 2 dogs but she lets the bunnies and the dogs play. I guess the fenced in yard gets to be fun when she has to round them all up. She has a large dog and a real tiny one and all do well. Supervise --- or sure. Retrievers are gorgeous and always so friendly. Shsh Tzu seem to run th home though I think - NO?

I did allow my golden retriever to be near my rabbits, but she did accidentally step on one of them so I took her out. My shih tzu did chase one of my rabbits and he did butt head with her which he showed that he's not afraid of her. He did seem he had bitten her so I couldn't let that continue. So, I have kept both of my dogs and my rabbits apart since that happened. Maybe will try again after both of my rabbits are potty trained, I will allow both to roam inside the house like I did with my male Dutch rabbit did roam vefore I got my female Mini Rex rabbit.

I would switch food as possibility the food doesn't agree with him. I'd watch him eat as sometimes the eat so fast - the wind up throwing up. Feed him a little amount at a time and put a little yogurt on it to help settle stomach. If this doesn't work, I'd take him to the vet as I would be concerned about an obstruction. If he is active, playing and poop is normal then I would just think he is eating the food way too fast. Possibly holding off eating to make sure he is not going to get something better like toast or a cookie and if he doesn't get his little treats, he just wolfs down the food which causes him to throw up.
Good luck - little yogurt on the food - or broth might be a good thing.

I once had a neighbour who owned a pitbull. Although he said it never bit anyone it was extremely vicious. This owner never beat up the dog and it was behaving normally with the owners. But whenever it heard us neighbours even though it was in their house it would go mad and bark furiously. Even when it was fast asleep next to our yard the moment he would sense us he would spring from his sleeping position only to bang against the fence and bark with such fury. I was terrified that it shouldnt someway get to the kids. These kids never ever teased the dog.

Your dumb just saying nobody here thinks of pitbull the way you do loving dog you can make any dog aggressive. My opinion is that's what most people get dogs for is to guard their home and protect their family.

My minature dachshund is having back problems. He's 4 years old and once every 6 months this had been happening to him. It's like he's paralyzed for about 5 min. He can't walk, falls over, has the shakes all over. His eyes are kind of in the back of his head. It only lasts about 5 min. What should I do how can i help him? All I can do is hold him tight and wait for it to pass. Help

I believe you should take the little guy to the vet. It sounds like seisures and there is medication.

I have a female Applehead and she got caught by a 4 month old Chihuahua cross pom. I'm so scared if she will be able to deliver the pups ... can any one give me advice??

I would definitely talk to your vet as soon as possible. These little Appleheads frequently can not deliver naturally and a Pom/cross, even with another Chihuahua, might be hard for her. I'd see your vet right away.

We named our blue heeler Toby, actually my kids named him that. He's about 2 yrs and just adopted him out of a dog pound. Pretty sad that such a pretty dog like this is in a dog pound.
  • Tommy - 2011-11-09
Name her or him spot, or blue.
  • Terri G - 2011-12-30
Rudder is a good name for a boy, because of the job they do. You might also want to consider Tiller, but the meaning of this is twofold (you might not want him digging in your yard!)
  • Anonymous - 2012-01-27
    We named ours Petey...

My husband and I just adopted our 7 week old Chug last night. We've named him Emrys. He's the smallest dog I've ever had, but my husband has had a pug before. Little Emrys is joining our family of another dog, a Chow-Pei, and a Tortie cat.

I live in pa, my dog tego is always chewing himself. Any help with skin problems. The vet wants 700 to test for allergies and @ 700 if he is for the 1st shots. That is air and food allergies both. Please help if you can. I give him 1/2 children benadryl when it gets real bad.

Change your dogs diet try a food called Natural Balance it has limited ingredients and don't give him nothing else, also stay away from chicken ingredients I have a rottie has skin problems it worked.
  • shelley - 2010-11-27
Ther is a website called allergicpet.com they sell a herbal medicine that I have my chihuahua on for skin problems which can run in blue chihuahuas try it.
  • Sharyl - 2011-01-22
It's probably food or flee allergies..My dog only get Natural Balance (by Vandyke) Fish and Sweet potato (Petco has it)..I tried chicken and beef and that really made it bad (all the hormones and crap they put in the dog food) and in the spring she only need 1 flee treatment and she's good. It take a while for it to clear up. but I bathe her in a Tea Tree shampoo to calm the skin.

Our 3 year old long hair female chihuhua Precious, has brought nothing but pure joy in our lives. My wife, Ella, and I are retired and just love her so much.
She is very smart. She is strickly a house dog except when we go for a daily walk. She is not a barker like some small dogs. She is friendly with strangers but rather stay close to my wife. She really knows how to share her love. During the day light hours she would rather go for walk with me or ride in my pickup truck. But, at night she is moma's girl. At our age we are blessed to have her.

I just bought a chihuahua a 9 wk. old. The first thing I noticed about her is that she was chewing on herself all the time. Two days later I went to Pet Smart and bought some shampoo for dogs that have sensitive skin (has oatmeal in it) and I bathed her in it. She instantly stopped!! And here I thought there was some kind of allergy problem and was going to have to put her on some kind of med. I'm so glad I tried that first!
  • shelley - 2011-12-01
Try feeding him a food called natural balance get it at pet co it has limited ingredience or a product called skin e z on the internet
  • Suzanne - 2012-01-16
You could try a food, like Solid Gold for small dogs (pink bag). It has ingredients that are good for allergic dogs: no corn or wheat, etc. They sell it at Petco, but you can find it a little cheaper online. It is expensive, but you just feed it twice a day, dry, by weight.

My Yorkie also has allergies. Check with your vet to see if he will give you a prescription for Simplicef. The cost is fairly reasonable and it works really well for my dog.
