I received an applehead chihuahua for my birthday July 3 from my husband and son. Her name is Molly. She is only 4 months. She is white and brown with a black spot on her back and around the left side of her tail. Training her to pee and poop on the training pad was not as hard as I thought it would be. I can let her loose the house and have noticed she will go to the utility room where her training pad is and pee or poop.  I am so proud of her.

I had a Westie for 16 years. Her name was Minnie (aka Minnie pearl). She was one of the loves of my life. My best friend. She was kind and loving and gave me so much joy. Her life gave so much to me, I think of my baby every day and wonder if she knows how much i will forever miss her. They are wonderful dogs human like. I now have a cockapoo who I love with all my heart but my Minnie will always be one of my most loved friends i have ever had. Rest in peace my minnie pearl and know your mommy loves you.

These dogs like to bark.  If they get a scent be prepared for a lot of barking.  If barking is an issue for you, this is not the right dog.

I was lucky enough to adopt a little short haired chihuahua named Miracle. I'd never owned a small dog as I'd lived on a ranch and always had large breeds. but due to circumstances I moved away and was given my little Miracle as the owners were going to put her in the pound. She's always a joy, she loves me so much and she's as viscious as a pit bull if she senses danger. I've fallen in love with the breed and will probalby always have one!

I would start by reading the above article from Animal World.  Chihuahua's a a little more prone to allergies or smells  than many dogs and often require 'testing' foods till you find one they like.  Initially you can just do the food (but pick a good one) and put a teaspoon full of yogurt on it.  They do sneeze or wheeze and it is normal.  They are a little stubborn but it is sorta fun - remember you are supposed to win with training.  Reward - even just a little cheerio helps a lot.

My long hair chihuahua is 3 years old. I have taken her to several vets to try and figure out what may be wrong with her, she does not produce tears in her left eye and I have to clean mucus out of it constantly. That eye is a good bit smaller than the other too. She also tends to drool out of the left side of her mouth. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Sometimes a person will not produce tears and they have to use drops. Sometimes the tear ducts can be closed which might be the case. If the vets have no idea - seems strange but would have someone check to see if duct in the one eye is actually open and working. I'd also have them check the teeth on that side in case bad tooth or possibkly a pinched nerve and that would cause drooling. Possible stroke. I would thinkk the vet would check these things out.

I was able to dig this up off the internet, hope it helps.

It sounds like your dog has sustained damage to the nerves that control the muscles on the left side of his face. From your description it's most likely the trigeminal nerve or the facial nerve that has been affected. You can tell the difference by whether your dog can blink his left eye or not. If he can't it's probably the facial nerve that is affected. This can be iatrogenic (no known cause), secondary to a middle ear infection, hypothyroidism or a tumor. He needs to see his veterinarian for an examination and diagnostics. Iatrogenic facial paralysis may improve with time but middle ear infections and hypothyroidism need treatment. If he's unable to blink his eye you'll need to supplement his tears with artificial tears.

i am not a dr i am just voicing my opinion but i think dogs are like humans they get things like we do and that sounds like stroke to me

HEATHER - 2012-06-24
My female chorkie Princess Gracey is the sweetest most loving pet I have ever had. She is also the most loyal dog ever. We have a large family and she loves us all, but, she has always been a mamma's girl from day one. These dogs make wonderful pets but mine is extremely small at barely 3lbs at 16 months. We have to watch her like a hawk.

I want a Chorkie that small! I love my 12lb.er and would love a teeny one, which was my original intent. How can you predict the adult weight?
  • Charlie Roche - 2012-07-19
It pretty much depends on the size of the parents.  Some are quite a bit larger than others.  You can get the largest one in the litter or the smallest.  If both parents are tiny - chances are the off spring will be.
  • Charlie\'s mama - 2012-07-21
My Charlie looks exactly like this but he is much bigger. He is probably 15 inches tall and weighs 21 pounds. He isn't fat, but very muscular. The breed description is dead on.

I have a west highland white terrier that is after a mouse in my house! If he catches will it hurt him? Give him a disease or anything?

No! It won't hurt him! It is their nature to go after rodents! We lost our little dog, only 4, to back problems and then paralysis in his back legs - he was the most loyal, valiant, loving dog we have ever owned and looking for another Westie!
