Just two weeks ago I have adopted a one year old male zebra finch from my work. He was up for adoption because he was born with only one foot, however he walks and perches as well as any other finch. He is sweet and loves to chirp to me in the morning. I have been cautious on whether to keep him single for life or to find him a mate. I am afraid that because of his handicap, he would not do well. But I know that no matter how much attention and care I give, I can not replace the company of another finch for him.

I have the sweetest little female zebra finch imaginable. She is now four years and three months. When she was about five weeks old and could not fly very well, I let my birds out for some exercise, and she flew into another room into a lamp. She unfortunately was injured and would not eat, so I hand fed her. (Handfeeding is very difficult and extremely dangerous, so I only recommend doing it if there is no other way. The risk of aspiration is too great.) She will sit in my hand and I can pet her and hold her. She loves when I rub her head and will actually regurgitate and try to feed me. This is really unusual for a finch and I thought she was sick at first, but this is during cuddle time. I love her. :)

Strawberry Finches are excellent singers as well. They love to sing for us if we sit near the cage and talk. They also sing to get us to come up to the cage.

For the past 2 summers we have had a pintail whydah visiting our garden. It is a very bossy bird. It will not allow other birds to feed and chases them away like a policeman. We have no need for an alarm as it constantly pecks on our windows from about 05h30! Lesley from Benoni in South Africa.

Here in Puerto Rico, I place in my backyard finch mixture seeds to the seed eaters little birds in the wild. Little doves, big ones, gray grasskeet, yellow grasskeet, spice birds, etc. coming to eat.
Back to four months ago a new little bird start to coming to dinner. Cream stripes and light brown in color. Later, I saw that black and white beautiful bird start to appear to eating seeds, I supposed it another finch (I heard about this bird with long tail before, but I never saw one, very agressive toward the other birds, when they coming to eat. I start to look for information and I found it here
is a Pintail Wydah, who live and raise family here in the island of Puerto Rico. How they survice here, I don't know. It's wonderful. In my backyard I have planted berries, fruits, flowers (reds) and every day I placed in the floor finch seed mixture and water. I became a birdwatcher in my own backyard.

i love my zebras! they are so fun to watch and listen to. i started out with a pair but after having them for a month i bought 3 more pairs and had a cage built for me. it is 6 1/2 ft tall, 5 ft wide, and 3 ft deep. by the end of the year we had about 30 birds but sadly only 5 survived the winter, 4 males and 1 female. the girl paired up with one of the boys and they now have 2 babies. i recently bought 3 new females and they have been taken into the colony perfectly. The 3 other males are REALLY enjoying that, they were really excited! i also have 2 diamond doves in the cage with them. they were supposed to be a pair but i think they are both males which is fine with me because they are beautiful anyway.

I have both Zebra and Society Finches, and while I love them all, the Society Finches are much friendlier, and their singing is much softer on the ears and very unique.
Sweet birds, as can be seen due to the fact they take care of other finches' babies. :)
