I have a large aviary with 30 mixed types but only 2 pairs of zebra. Before I knew it, it increased by 4 babies acting like they own my aviary. My problem is no one is paying this one paticular male any attention. Oh well, so there is an odd-ball even among birds.

We discovered a male Pin-Tailed Whydah at our local petstore. He looked very unhappy in a cage full of Zebra Finches, so we took him home with us. He was an expensive little guy and we enjoy him very much. We are hoping to find a female for him.

Zebras are a great household pet. Take good care of them, feed'em daily, give them a comfy room, keep'em warm during the winter months, and they will live a long life - even 12 or 15 years in exceptional cases. (My oldest is a male gray, 13 years old this December--outliving his mate, and all his children, the little dude is a virtual methuselah).

I have 24 birds, and most of them are finches. this was just the perfect site for me. This website really helps me in training my birds, feeding, and breeding my birds. I'm probably going to visit this website often. I just love it!

Right now I'm looking out my window and watching 12-15 Nutmeg Mannikins feed from my feeder. They've been here the last three years and are breeding. Each year there are more and more. There are several juveniles that are just starting to turn the darker color on top and get their striped feathers underneath. They're adorable little birds. They arrive in a large flock to feed in the mornig and again in the afternoon and early evening. I live in Fullerton, California.

I just purchased a perfectly matched pair of zebra finches, and I must say that they are adorable and I enjoy hearing the sounds they make. they are very busy building a nest so babies will be coming. I love to hear the male sing, he sounds like he has a toy trumpet he's tooting on. I named them Jack and Jill. I'm hooked!

my mom has two of these sweet little birds, that she takes outside and hangs in a tree every day. The birds love it and other birds have even come to visit them. One day when she brought them in at the end of the day we noticed that the male bird was missing! We were very upset and looked every where for him, not expecting to find him. The next morning while sitting on the deck we hear the little bird calling for his mate, and sure enough there he was sitting in a tree looking very sad. She brought his cage outside and he flew over to it and she carried them back in the house! We never did find out how he got out, or where he spent the night! We all wish that little LB, "little bird", could talk!

This is our third male in two years (the other two passed away for reasons unknown) and first time mating; we bought another female too and she and the new male are busy nesting and laying eggs (two in two days). Their song makes the effort of caring for them worthwhile. Our 9 year old daughter does a lot of the care and naming; the new birds should keep her busy at that.

Mealworms are a staple in their diet aside from seed mix and millet. I just found out they ALSO eat blades of grass as they have refused to touch ANY vegetables/leaves/celery/carrot top or anything else green in their cage. They love grit (some sources including one vet said NOT to give this to them - most sources say DO).
