I just purchased a perfectly matched pair of zebra finches, and I must say that they are adorable and I enjoy hearing the sounds they make. they are very busy building a nest so babies will be coming. I love to hear the male sing, he sounds like he has a toy trumpet he's tooting on. I named them Jack and Jill. I'm hooked!

my mom has two of these sweet little birds, that she takes outside and hangs in a tree every day. The birds love it and other birds have even come to visit them. One day when she brought them in at the end of the day we noticed that the male bird was missing! We were very upset and looked every where for him, not expecting to find him. The next morning while sitting on the deck we hear the little bird calling for his mate, and sure enough there he was sitting in a tree looking very sad. She brought his cage outside and he flew over to it and she carried them back in the house! We never did find out how he got out, or where he spent the night! We all wish that little LB, "little bird", could talk!

This is our third male in two years (the other two passed away for reasons unknown) and first time mating; we bought another female too and she and the new male are busy nesting and laying eggs (two in two days). Their song makes the effort of caring for them worthwhile. Our 9 year old daughter does a lot of the care and naming; the new birds should keep her busy at that.

Mealworms are a staple in their diet aside from seed mix and millet. I just found out they ALSO eat blades of grass as they have refused to touch ANY vegetables/leaves/celery/carrot top or anything else green in their cage. They love grit (some sources including one vet said NOT to give this to them - most sources say DO).

I have kept gouldian finches for a little over a year here in Southern Louisiana. They are kept indoors in a spare bedroom where I keep the tempature between 75 to 80 degrees. The air conditioner vent is kept closed during the summer months and left open in winter to allow warm air in the winter. At the moment (June) they are caring for their young which are about 1 week old. This will be the first time my goulds have babies. I am anxious to see what colors the babies will be. Both my goulds have RH BP GB

I have 2 pairs of finches. All 4 are zebra finches. We just got another pair today. The pair that we got are babys so its going to take a while until they can breed. I can't wait till night to see if they start fighting. Their names are George, Kiara (1st pair) and Jack, Linda (2nd pair). Every time I wake up I always here George singing. When we got George I could tell he was scared. Kiara was also scared. When we put them in the cage they both started to fly around. They are so cute.

I have a male and female Strawberry finch and they are delightful little birds! They are very active little birds and very fast in flight. I have them in a mixed aviary with other finches and they get along great with everybody. I love to hear the male sing and he is so beautiful when in full color for breeding season. Unfortunately I have not had the privilege of any babies yet but hope to try some more nests for them to see if they will lay some eggs. If you are looking for a finch, I would highly recommend getting a pair of Strawberrys as they are so little and almost the size of a Hummingbird and very social and lively birds!
