Charlie Roche - 2011-08-10 Yep, some of my pets were/are a litle crazy and lots of fun. I went to purchase my first had fed baby - 30 years ago and I drove about 3 hours to this flea market - where you should probably never buy a bird. My daughter had to take speech classes and I though an amazon would make it more fun for her. I went to the bird booth (2 guys that had been breeding for years) and here were all these baby amazons - no feathers - sitting in fish tanks with sawdust. I told them what I wanted and they told me to pick one out and they marked it and said to come back in 8 weks. I said "NO" I want to take it home now. They said I didn't know how to hand feed and I told them to show me. The two guys were about 6'6 and 6'8 - huge and I am 5 feet. They laughed and said OK - hand feed these guys and then come back and do it again in 4 hours. I hand fed about 60 parrots right then (they showed me how and watched me). Then I went around and browsed. Then I went back and hand fed all 60 again. I took Prince home (a yellow nape that picked me out). Never bought a bird with feathers after that. I had a few before that had been fed out but Prince stole my heart.
Leila - 2011-08-09 Wonderful birds you have! You mean to say you had them since they were young? Im sure they are such beautiful companions to you. Yes I hope to get a yellow boy soon. Perhaps I can rear a chick or two! As for the blue one, he totally ignores the yellow one. So I'd better take him out and bring him inside as a pet again!

Charlie Roche - 2011-08-09 Yep, I had and have some great birds. I hand fed all my birds. I got them all as babies - Peppy was just two days old. Some - based on personality - were just extrmely attached to me and I to them. Those just would not accept a feathered mate. It was a lot of fun - interesting and never dull. Bring the blue one in and just enjoy him. Who knows someday -he might even fall in love with one of the yellow ones babies.
Leila Peters - 2011-08-09 Yes! yes! you are so right! The blue one is more interested in us humans than the yellow pal I got for him! She actually was "going flat" but the blue one was like, "blah!" I really love the yellow colour - its really deep yellow. Gosh! Your parrot of 25 years! Thats wonderful!

Charlie Roche - 2011-08-09 OK well you figured it out. The blue one wants a human mate - and is happiest with a human mate. Someday at some time for no reason that could or might change but maybe not. Your yellow one wants a hubby. You like the yellow (and they are very attractive and easy to tell males in ringnecks with the ring around the neck. Not very expensive so go get the yellow gal a hubby and have the blue one for a pet. My pet 25 years - he is a pip. I hvae another Czar - in the photo and he is 27 - and he will not enter the room if my husband is in it. Just my husband - he is fine with anyone else. Peppy (the little amazon) is such a character - never know for sure what is going to come out of his mouth.
Leila Peters - 2011-08-09 Well, Charlie, the hens got a breeding box and she frequents it, even sleeps in it. She has bred before I got her. My cock is like six years old but not use to other birds as he grew up with people only. I have heard also that birds of the same color will breed together only, unless they grew up with different colours. I think the solution is to get a yellow cock.

Charlie Roche - 2011-08-09 OK. Much of the time a parrot, when they have been a pet for years, have no idea what it is they are supposed to do regarding breeding. They just don't do "IT". There hasn't been a flock around them that they could see the mating and they have no idea what it is they are supposed to do. Your blue guy could be like that. It may take him awhile to catch on. She may be able to show him. It may take awhile. My Peppy (an amazon) was about 12 years old and I found a proven female and set Peppy and her up in the aviary. When she tried to "DO IT", Peppy would scream andyell "HELP MA" and you could hear him above all the other birds. I decided Peppy should be my coimpanion and forgot about the breeding. Peppy did manage to find a gal he did like but he was 25 years old or so. He learned from other birds. You could get a yellow male and keep the blue one for a pet and have the best of both worlds. However, if the yellow one has never "DONE IT" you might still have to wait and be patient.
ala - 2011-04-11 Hi, It's a question or all please my indian ring female parrot has laid one egg in her cage. I did not know what to do to help her take care of her egg kindly help me what to do?
Click For Replies (3)
Charlie Roche - 2011-04-12 You can take something like a small plastic dish (butter dish) and put some small pebbles in it for weight and then a bunch of grass twigs etc. Then put the egg in it. She will probably sit the egg for a few days and realize it isn't fertile and give up. But at least she had "the thought" for awhile. Now, if there is a male involved in this, I would set up a nest box. Female birds sometimes just lay eggs (chickens). Not all that unusual but rarely with the larger breeds.
Ali Salar - 2011-06-11 Firstly remove egg from cage because it might be broken and place egg in warm place like cotton or wool and simply collect all eggs then give all her eggs after 10 days in nest box.
Leila Peters - 2011-08-08 Please bear in mind that if there is no cock the eggs wont hatch. For successful breeding supply breeding box and a cock bird.

Editor's Note - 2011-03-29 I have had several birds that regurgitate their food. Sometimes they have done this on the top of my head or in an attempt to feed me. I asked an avian vet regarding this behavior and she assured me it was normal. Birds do it, she said, as if they are feeding their spouse or babies. The birds that did it, were healthy and happy in all other ways and I can't not say this happened excesssively but definitely more often in the spring.
gaby - 2011-07-03 I would like to purchase a yellow ringneck parrot. How much was yours?
Vicki Rauch - 2011-02-08 Hi my name is Vicki and we just bought a 4yr old Indian Ringneck and she is beautiful! She had been returned to the bird shop a couple times before we brought her home with us. She does not like my 17yr grand daughter and bites her whenever they get near each other. But with my husband and myself she is so very lovable and wants to be near us and held and petted all the time. She also is very loud like a Macaw is. Anyone have some ideas on how to make her quit biting? They said she was a problem bird when we purchased her and could return her in 30 days if it wasn't going to work out, but we will not return her because I don't think she is a problem bird, just moved around to many times already. But would like her to quit her biting habit.

Ali Salar - 2011-06-12 It's not a matter just simply you can remove habit of biting fastly just if she is biting you then you should not hit her but you should remain patient and do not show her that it is hurting and by doing this several times you can remove habit of biting.
Neale - 2009-10-04 Hi I have a two year old green parrot who spends the first two hours of every day frightened out of his wits. He shows his wings and sometimes pin points his eyes. He is so frightened that you can see his chest fluttering. Picking him up stops the problem until he is placed back on his tree perch. We cannot hear any machinery or other constant noise at all. Any suggestions to help him...

Kai - 2010-09-28 I have an Indian ringneck and when my bird does that it's a sexual display :s opening his wings half way in a heart shape stretching tall and going short with pinning eyes. If this sounds right it's just for mating purposes. I don't know if my bird Jake is a boy or a girl. But he does it. :)
Arlene - 2010-11-01 Are you sure he/she isn't near a window where there is other large birds (hawks, Falcons, Eagles) or animals that he is getting a view of and being spooked? My birds see our local hawk sometimes and they all freak until they are comforted. There is a nest out one window, so I had to move them to the other side of the room where they couldn't watch the hawks nesting in the summer months. Maybe a squirrels nest or something somewhere? It's good that you comfort your bird when this happens.
sandra - 2011-04-09 Congratulations! You've just discovered that you bird is a hen (female.) Your bird is happy with you and her surroundings. Now you know that you are providing a happy atmosphere for her.
maria - 2008-07-04 I have a yellow female ringneck with red cheeks. I was told these birds do not talk so I never tried to persuade it. I have had her for 20 years. She is very affectionate, but very tarritorial. Most of the time I feel guilty for not giving her the opportunity to have babies. How long these birds live.

Hannah - 2010-08-20 Hi there. On the contrary, indian ringnecks speak really really well! INR'S can live any where from 20 to 38, but depends on how well there diet is. I haven't done any breeding but I have done some research (I'm not a pro or anything though) but I do know that breeding is a very time consuming thing. Hope this helps!
alex - 2010-08-22 I'm 11 but I know a bit about ringecks. My mom breeds them and sells the chicks after hand rearing them. They live up to 26-30 years, or around that. My mom also used to breed budgies and is breeding alexanderines now. Avocados are bad for birds because it can kill them. I remember my little bird, now only almost a year ate one bite of avocado but it was small, and she got cranky at me when I even got her out, but she's ok now so I suggest you don't give any other birds you get the name in the box is fake cus I'm not aloud to put my real name.
