Has anyone had the problem of their parakeet's beak getting too long. I have cuttle bones, etc., but his beak has grown quite long. Can I trim it like I do his nails?
I have two baby Budgies that I purchased from a "bin'o'budgies" at a local pet store three months ago. They all had good coloring, were clean, appeared healthy and treated well. I think one is around 3 mo old and the other 4 or 5 because of the feathers on the forehead and iris/lack there of. Unfortunately due to lack of human contact in their first days it took awhile for them to trust me. However, with time and patience I have gotten them to be finger trained and hang out with me outside of their cage- right now they are sitting on top of my laptop, that is on my lap as I'm laying on the couch :) I had a cockateil that my family adopted and I loved dearly, but I left him at home when I moved out because I wouldn't have the time to spend with him like he is used to. I missed him so much that just had to fill the empty spot in my heart. Sure enough these two little guys have done that and more. They sing and chirp so beautifully and merrily, it sounds like spring every morning in my house. Just a heads up- they poop every 12 minutes! Thanks for this very informational site. I read as much as often as I can to make sure I give these sweethearts the best life possible.
I have 2 birds that start yelling when my 2 dogs start barking. It drives me crazy but I found out when I put on Shiana Twain they (the birds) calm down and start talking to each other again. Life is good with Shiana and the birds (and the dogs, both labs).
My daughter has had a pet Parakeet for about 5 years now. She use to be very nice but now loves to bite. She is very moody sometimes talkative and other times very loud with her swaking. If you want to get a parakeet make sure you can keep up with changing toys out and bonding time with your bird.
Parekeets are so cute!! We have 2 of them! Though they make a lot of noise they make wonderful pets . I recommend them for any family! And the kids absouloutly LOVE them!
I just found this site and don't know if you are still seeing the parakeet in your back yard. The little bird you are seeing is probably a domestic parakeet that was purchased locally and has escaped from its home. He will not survive in the wild. Though parakeets exist in the wild in Austrailia, they are a hardier breed. If possible, try to gently capture this little bird. Do not be afraid; he is quite small and really cannot hurt you. Use a small towel if you need to. Before doing this, get a small cage, if possible, and put some water and seed mix into it. Parakeets are very lovable; if no one claims him, he will make an adorable fun little pet.
Budgies are so cute and sweet that we have 4 of them. They make really great pets 4 us.
My budgies are so adorable that they are always wanting to get on your finger every morning. I have 4 of them, their names are newbie, dipstick, sammy, and birdie. The 1st budgies are babies and newbie lays egg almost every 3 or 4 days. Dipstick is a girl and she is too young to lay eggs yet, but she`ll be able to lay soon. Sammy is an adult budgie and she isn`t able to lay eggs any more `cause she`s too old to lay now. Birdie is my fave budgie `cause he peeps at the window, his perch, the mirror, and his fave treat is popcorn. Some time this week we`ll get 2 adult parakeets that are male and female. The female lays eggs and they`re small. bye.
Hi, I'm Suvitha. I have 2 parakeets and their names are Ricky and Lucy. They both love to dance, they move side to side. It is called the budgie boogie. Ricky is a male who is sea blue and white on the belly. Lucy is a female and is light blue with a little white. I have 2 ways I can identify. Ricky has dark blue sideburns, and he doesnt screech. Luc screeches and is usually the 1st one to dance.
We have been seeing a parakeet in our backyard with all the other birds. We don't know if parakeets are naturally in the wild, or if this bird has flown away from home somehow. We don't know how to help this bird, or if it really even needs help. Can they survive outside with the other birds?
