Charlie Roche - 2011-11-28 You mean he is chewing on your hand? Pretty normal. They try and lift freckles off. They try and let you know that they don't want to go back in the cage or be moved. Affection. They will preen you like they would another bird.
shariq ahmed - 2011-11-29 no, he is just moving away, in the cage.
mutaz - 2011-11-25 Dear Charlie , one of my baby budgies ( 2 months of age) has a lazy right side foot. It is always avoiding to step on it , he can move it but very slowly , because of that problem . He is always standing at the bottom of the cage , avoid flying and always eating while sitting in the food pot.
Another baby ( same age) was very healthy for a month and suddenly his left wing start trembling then his wing seems to be prolapsed, he is still able to move it but not flying and always staying in the lower locations of the cage.

Charlie Roche - 2011-11-25 My guess is the one has what is called a splayed leg or possibly it was broken while in the nest. Sometimes moms sit to tight on the little ones and their leg/wing even neck can get twisted. Babies tend to heal very fast and the one with the foot problem may always have a weakness there but it should get better and he will be fine. They will do fine if they only have one leg - they get around. So it should heal and just right now it is sore. The one with the wing, possibly twisted or broke the wing falling, hitting the side of the cage etc. Feel both wings and see if possibly the wing has been broken. If you don't feel a difference or see a difference between the two wings - again probably will be fine. If you can feel a break or a rough spot (gully like) on the wing, possibly broken. It should be wrapped but the fact that he is moving it would tell me that not broken just twisted or sore. Good luck and aren't babies just so neat?
Charlie Roche - 2011-11-28 You have a busy mom there. Enjoy. I am glad the wing wasn't broken. I didn't think it was but she probably twisted it. Babies can be a little clumsy.
mutaz - 2011-11-26 Thank you charlie, I have checked the wing as you directed, bones feels to be ok, and it is moving and stretching the wing normally, might be twisted as you said. Thanks again and yes these babies are neat and marvelous. And a gain this mum I have is brilliant, as she got only 5 babies left from the last 10 eggs she laid. Now she laid 6 new eggs, and after recounting the babies she decided to break one of the eggs keeping only 5. I highly appreciate your assistance.

Charlie Roche - 2011-11-18 Sweetie doesn't need a bed - honest. Most of us birds sleep sitting upright and even sometimes on one leg.
Regina - 2011-10-28 I have owned parakeets for almost 3 years. I realize that the males' cere color is blueish thereofre mine is a male bird. I just cleaned his cage and found an egg in the bottom of the cage. he has no mate, just a toy bird he plays with. can anyone out there tell me if this is normal or a freak of nature?

jaden - 2011-11-10 If the cere is blue than your bird is a female. I have spoken with breeders and pet stores they all say if the cere is it's a female.
amal - 2011-11-10 I've had my keet for 2 weeks now....he's 5months old I was told in the pet store..don't know if he is male or female yet...I taught him to trust me...and he hops on my hand easily now....but 2 days ago he started biting...and when I added new toys to it's cage he stood so still....did I do anything wrong? And he started eating from my hand yesterday....his name is moradi...and he's super cute...

Jasmine Brough Hinesley - 2011-11-11 It may take a little while for your parakeet (Melopsittacus undulatus) to adjust to his/her new surroundings, and every time you add a new toy or accessory he/she may just be unaccustomed to it. I would continue to work with your parakeet daily for short periods of time (about 20 minutes) and see if this improves his biting. That is great that he will eat from your hand! Good luck!
Gerri - 2011-10-27 My female parakeet is trying to lay her first egg but is having a hard time. It looks like she has pushed out her birthing canal!! It's reddish and uneven in texture. I've tried to ease it free, but it's not moving. She's mostly staying on the bottom of the cage and her feathers are fluffed. What can I do for her???

Charlie Roche - 2011-10-27 Sounds like she is egg bound. You can try and lubricate using some mineral oil on/around the cloaca and then soak her in warm water. Sometimes that helps her pass the egg. If she doesn't pass the egg trying this then get her to the vet right away. Egg binding can result in death. Sounds pretty serious with her being on the bottom of the cage and fluffed so maybe just take her to the vet now.
Megan - 2011-11-06 Get your bird to a vet ASAP.This is called egg binding, and your bird will die if this egg does not pass or is not removed. That is extremely dangerous. Hopefully the vet can remove it, because from the sounds of it she isn't going to do it by herself. Best of luck, Megan.
jennie - 2011-11-04 I just got my son his 1st parakeet and he is so excited about having a pet he named the bird Buddy because it is a male we are planning on getting another bird to put with him so he is not lonely. We just got Buddy today.

coree - 2011-11-05 I got two budiges they're males. Their names are Polly and Blue. Polly is green and yellow. Blue is blue and white. To let you know green ones are bigger and less active. Blue ones are not as big and more active. Mine are so cute together. They will clean each other put one of their feet on the other one with is safe. They hop around in the cage. They only fight once in a while which is over a seed pretty much. I live in Newaygo Michigan so in the summer are late spring I bring their cage out side if it's over 65 degrees. They will talk to the wild birds. Put their cage by the window since they like too look out side. Since you have one right now have a mirror in the cage if you have any questions call me at 231-912-9720 0r 231-652-1874 on the weekends
Not only does the Parakeet or Budgerigar make a super pet, but is also available in over 100 color forms!
