I own a male Alexandrine Parakeet. He will be 4 yrs old in March. When I bought him the people did not know anything at all about him. They told me he would not learn but maybe 10 words. Needless to say he has an extensive vocabulary, and he knows when to use which words.
It took him about a year to get to know my friends. He would not talk in front of any of them, but now he talks and talks.

Hi everyone! Just got two little babies yesterday and they are the cutest little birds. One is yellow and one is a sky blue. When my daughter and I went to the pet store yesterday, I told her the two birds that were the easiest to catch were the ones going home with us. These two birds came right to both of us and let us pick them up and rub their heads. I said these are the ones going home with us! When we got them home and in their new home, they just pretty much stayed like that the rest of the evening. This morning we woke up to both of them just crimping up a storm so I guess they are happy. We are trying to think of some unique names for them!

We have a family of ringnecks who live in the wild and come several times a day to our feeder in SW Florida. They love sunflower seeds, and will stay at the feeder for 10-15 minutes at a time sometimes. The youngsters stay and eat the most.

My son just gave me a pair of parakeets, he had no idea I had wanted a pair for over a year. I love them! They are so sweet. Their names are "Nip" and "Tuck", they are just getting used to sitting on my finger. Your website is invaluable for information on making their new home as comfortable as possible for them. Thank you!

Sisser was my best friend and the dearest pet I have ever had. I was 13 when I got him, he was yellow with a green spot between his wings
and a tiny green spot on his chest also. His feet were pink and his pretty little beak was orange with a light purple nose. It was love at first sight. He loved to sleep in my hand or on my pillow. He was always out of his cage and always with me...in the shower or when I did homework. At three months of age he started talking saying: Sisser, I love you, You are sooo handsome, Good morning sweethart,
I want to take a bath, Shake(he would shake my finger with his foot)
and honestly I can not remember all his phrases. He was so tame
and so smart. When I turned 18 my parents hired a fashion photographer to capture his funny antics and my gift was a wall full of the most impossibly cute pictures of a fav yellow friend. He came with me to college and picked up a few un-classy words on the way. He was tougher on boyfriends than my dad was. He drew blood on one who tried to kiss me in front of him(he warned him with loud hissing first, he SHOULD have backed off). Well, at age 21 I fell in love with my american husband and moved from Denmark to the US leaving Sisser with my parents. Mom said he was happy and playful still and always out. He died at age 13 after having slowed down for about six months. I could not stop crying despite knowing he had had the happiest life any bird could want. But then I had a black and gray tattoo done of him on my ankle and so I feel he is still with me. I now have three birds, four dogs, four turtles, two cats and a hamster and I am studying to become a vet. I love you Sisser, till we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge. Charlotte.

I am answering the question, has anyone had a budgie that talked. I had a green parakeet that lived to be 10 years, his name was Petey. And, yes he could talk. I would take him out everyday and say the same phrases to him over and over again when he was young. Every word he was taught stayed with him for his life. I have tapes I made of him talking. He was so used to me handling him that I could put his little head on a tiny pillow and cover him up with a doll blanket up to his shoulders! My parents thought he was dead the first time they had witnessed this great trust.

Budgies make the greatest Pets! Bought 1 a yr. ago and felt bad about her being all alone so i bought another one. Did not "pick her out" just told the fellow at the pet store to get the easiest one to catch. They were all to sweet to pick just one. Have to stay out of pet stores for fear of owning a large flock of these birds. Have to order suplies online.

I Have a 2-year-old male ringneck named chicken! I have had him since he wes just 10 days old. He talks and is very affectionate, he loves giving kisses (acoompanied by the appropriate moises, of course). He is very clever and loves his toyw (which he tosses onto the floor as quickly as he can, one of his favourite games). He likes to put a small toy into a deoderant cap and shake it like a rattle, or uses one toy as a bat and the other as a ball and runs around on the carpet "playing hockey". He is the cutest little thing ever and I love him to bits. NOTE: They need a lot of attention and are not quiet about letting you know about it.

We have a turquoise female named Indigo who is definately a little bird with a big personality. At a little over a year in age, she already has quite a vocabulary and loves to give kisses. She truely is a charmer.
