I have a Greenwing & a Blue & Gold. Both are fantastic but the Greenwing stole my heart the first time I met him. They have the most fantastic characters, real lovable, gentle giants..!!

I have a B&G named Alex. I have had him for 3 years and I hand fed him for 3 months. Alex has bonded to me quite well and has a very good vocabulary for his age. I have found that he is so intelligent that I have to be careful. I should have named him houdini cause he has figured out how to remove the latches that secure his cage doors. He watches every move I make when I replace the latches and he removes them in minutes flat and hides the latch in his cage. He has managed to remove bolts that hold the cage together. No matter how many toys he has he manages to play with the things that he shouldnt makeing him quite mischevious. You can see that in his eyes, almost like what can I get into next. He does not like the fact that I smoke so he takes the cigarettes out of my pocket and throws them on the floor, guess he is giving me a hint. One thing for sure, he has lots of personality and I love him. I would never part with him!

I have a four year old and even though he can be loud at times I have found that he really does understand words. He has spoken in sentences knowing when to say them and what he wants. He really has a clown side to him but is very loving. I have had so many comments on his colors and attractiveness that I could have sold him many times but I can not sell part of my family. Believe me he is just another kid in the house. He will not let anyone else touch him and when I have him he will not let anyone else get close to me. He is very protective of me and I love every minute of it.

My husband and I have 2 Blue and Gold name Gina 9 yrs,and Sunny is 1yr. These 2 birds have been a joy to have. They are extremely smart birds. Gina and Sunny will eat just about anything we eat. They are very playful and can say a few words. Gina loves to yell momma and Sunny practice her words at night when we put her to bed. When she says hey her eyes will always flash and she will get right up to you and say Hey! They are the joy of our life!!

I have a severe macaw, Oscar. He is eight years old. I have had him since he was about two. I adopted him from a terrible situation. He lived in a cockatiel cage, so he was missing most of his tail feathers and he smelled like cigarette smoke. The first day that I visited him, he rolled on his back and was trying to regurgitate for me. Now that is love! In the six years that I have had him, I have switched him to pelleted food and now his feathers are amazing. He will not leave my side when I am home. He has a big cage and a huge tree that he spends most of his time on. His favorite toy is a large plastic linked chain. His favorite food is corn on the cob.

Hi, We have just recently adopted a Catalina Macaw, Cleopatra....Cleo for short. And she is an absolute doll baby. So loveable and sooo smart. She talks very well...and in context. We just love her to pieces. Still trying to understand how anyone could give up such a wonderful, loveable bird. We are owned by 5 other birds so she fits in well.

My wife and I own a wonderful 5 yr. old catalina named Carlos. He was given to us by a lady who bought it as her first bird from a private party. He is wonderful and we both have good a relationship with him. Of course he is very playful. He likes to roll on his back on your lap and play. We also own 6 other various birds.

I have kept Macaws for only a few years. I have had a Blue and Gold, A Harlequin (Hybird) and a Greenwing. Out of them all I would have to say that the Greenwing is about the most Loveable, intelligent and is truly a gentle giant. I would have to say that a Macaw of any kind is definitely not a first bird or a bird for the uninitiated. For those who do have a lot of bird experience a Greenwing is definitely the way to go.

I was looking for an Eclectus, male. I happened upon this (dna forthcoming) 6 month old, hand fed Severe Macaw. When Panama (since named) snuggled on my chest and whispered hello while nuzzling up under my chin, I made an immediate decision.
Smart, very adaptive to new situations & places and truly NOT a screamer or loud; it DOES depend on how it is raised and the surroundings, my heart is so gone!
I started my bird devotion with a rescued male cockatiel I had to hand feed. I loved this little zinger so much I had to share the overflow and decided on a bigger parrot (which is this Macaw). It is not terribly difficult to split time between two birds, equally, and I am having such a good experience I would love even MORE, but cannot imagine how I could divide the time so everyone got even attention and turned out this well adjusted.
I fully, enthusiastically recommend the Macaws (especially the "severe") - for their easy going nature, sweet demeanor and SNUGGABILITY : )
