I would call the harlequin shamrock hybrid a "Copper Fire" as it has all the colors of a piece of copper heated by a hot flame. Due to the rarity of this bird I doubt there actually is a "common" name as yet. So the breeder of course can call it what they will.

My Blue and Gold, Comet, is the sweetest thing. Though he is big, he is very cuddly and gentle (though everyone gets cranky). He gets along very well with my Scarlet Macaw Ralph. He even likes to say hi to my cockatiels Joey and Mico and my Sun Conure, Lucas. He loves to play on his 3 playstands around the house and boogie in his outdoor aviary with Ralph. His favorite foods are chicken, veggie pizza, and fresh pineapple, and he loves to toss around peas that are still in the pod! These animals are beautiful and amazing companions, but you do have to be experienced to have these birds.

i bought my catalina from a woman who couldn't keep him in a new apartment. Conan took a few months to get used to me and my 13 year old daughter, but now he's part of the family. he's VERY talkative, but he's MESSY! these macaws are SMART! he picks up phrases fast. i have 2 dogs and he's not afraid of them at all. all in all catalinas are great birds and definitely LOVE attention.

We just obtained our Yellow Naped Macaw, named "Tough-Guy", hes roughly about 7 years old. My family is loving him....he does talk although he doesnt say much beyond Hello and one word I wont repeat here ( he lived in a bachelors home) Although I have it on good authority that he CAN say more if he wants to.

I have 6 macaws in my living room. Pete (yellow collar), Goose (4 F y/o miltary), Joe Joe(11 y/o F BG), Burt(20 y/o M BG), Sunny(8 y/o F BG), and Rowdy (8 y/o M BG).I found out that the blue and golds are the most loving macaws to have. I don't have any thing against the others but they are awesome. They share my home with an Umbrella cockatoo (Zipper 5 y/o m) which is the noisest of the bunch. I like how they talk to each other. Goose will yell "Bye" and Burt will follow "where you goin." When the phone rings they yell "Hello" and "what you doing", "Alright", "ok" and "Bye." If I have to recommend a pet bird it would have to be a Blue and Gold Macaw.

I have had my Hahn's Macaw for just over a year now. I got him from a friend who is a bird breeder and I finished his hand feeding, so "he" is my baby. Kiwi also loves my 8 year old daughter and gives us both lots of kisses. He likes my husband but would rather spend his time with me. He is so very lovable, I did not realize how sweet and docile these birds were. We also have a green-cheeked conure, Mango and while she is also sweet, she does not like to cuddle or kiss too much and although she loves my husband, does not like other men who visit. She is famous for trying to attack my brother. Mango also does not care for Kiwi, I am sure since she was the first bird in the house and feels it is hers. While Mango is quite a loud bird, Kiwi is the exact opposite. He is so very quiet and can easily entertain himself in his cage with his toys. He only occasionally yells out if the house gets too quiet and he is not sure we are here. Kiwi can say Mango Tango, step up, Hi Bob, night night, Sydney Boo-Boo, and he mimicks my laugh. He also says ummmm whenever I am eating. I would highly recommend a Hahn's Macaw to anyone looking for big personality in a small bird. As far as biting, he will occasionally nip my daughter's hand as a warning if she is annoying him but he does not bite anyone else in the family.

5 days ago I bought my first parrot, a Harlequin Macaw. She is so gorgeous and smart. She tells one of my dogs who won't stop barking to "SHUT UP". The Only trouble with Maxie is....She won't let me near her or her feed dishes. She got one good bite on my fore arm.

My military just came home last week, I wanted a blue & gold or a greenwing. I was looking on the net and found a guy that had two 4 month olds and I answered his ad and drove to see them. I couldn't believe how alive the colors looked. The net does nothing for the looks. My military macaw is named Chief, and he is spoiled already. He has never nipped me hard, except one time when he was slopping off of my arm and tried to grab my shirt. He got a mouthful of skin and shirt. He calls during the day some and almost whispers as the night comes in. This bird is really cool and I have taught him two tricks on command in just 3 days. These guys are very smart and love to be held as well as introduced to new games and get plenty of wood for them to chew and a good hanging toy and you get one happy bird; Don't forget a peanut or two a day!

Ina Kelly - 2006-09-12
I'm Ina Kelly in Cali and Kiwi Kelly is our baby since me & my husband don't have kids yet. She is quite a hand full but so much fun. I miss her even when I'm at work. We have had Kiwi since she was a baby, she is 6 years old now. We had her sexed, she is definitely a girl. She is a quiet bird relatively, unless she hears me blowing my nose in the bedroom before we get her (her cage is always covered dark overnight), or if we grind coffee. She laughs when we both laugh, fact which makes us laungh even more. She is quite feisty, bites us not too hard, but a bit. Kiwi says "step up", mimics kissing when I kiss her beak or feet, definitely mimics my every sound in the shower, just learned about 2 years ago to say "good" very well when we give her OJ or cran, and loves a good bark. Her favorites are to sit upside down inside my husband's Tshirt when it gets dark, dance and rock her head when I dance with her to good music or eat ice cream ocasionally as fast as she can, when she is allowed. She is the most rewarding pet ever, we have had a few, but a pet that you need to devote yourself to, since all s/he has is the joy of seeing you, her owner, when you come home. We feel bad we cannot get her a partner so we try to spend every time we're home with her, she is never in her cage then. And when we come home, she screams since she alreay learned the sounds of our cars, she loves us! And we love her!
