I think your website is wonderful! I have a Green Cheeked Conure myself and they are the most loving little birds. Its great to have a site with so much information and beautiful pictures too!
I have a 5 year old GCC called Ringo. He is an absolute darling, although he does have his moody moments and is prone to temper tantrums when he can't get his own way. I stay in an apartment so his wings are clipped (for his own safety)- but that doesn't seem to bother him as he thinks he should be carried every where anyway ! He does try to talk and mimics whistles perfectly. He happily keeps himself amused for hours (even when I'm at home) but enjoys a good playtime together. After not being much of a "bird person" I am really so glad I decided to share my home with Ringo - it would be a dull day without him ! Even my husband is attached to him and they have a special cuddle time before Ringo goes to bed !
my conures is very good at talking. it can sing the liverpool song. it sang it when liverpool play the other night and it is only 5 weeks old.
I HAVE HAD MY ROCKY ROAD FOR 6 MONTHS NOW. HE JUST TURNED 1 YEAR. I USE TO BE AFRAID OF BIRDS, BUT ROCKY I KNEW WHEN I SAW HIM AND HE LOOKED AT ME AND STARTED DANCING AND THAT WAS IT. I HAVE NEVER HAD A RELATIONSHIP LIKE THIS WITH ANY ANIMAL, BUT WOULDN'T TRADE THE SMILES HE PUTS ON MY FACE FOR MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. I NOW HAVE AQUIRED ANOTHER BIRD A SENEGAL PARROT NAMED MS. JACKIE, AND ALTHOUGH SHE TOO IS SPECIAL AND WE HAVE OUR OWN KIND OF RELATIONSHIP, ROCKY IS AND KNOWS THAT HE IS #1, NOW AND ALWAYS. I ALWAYS SAY THAT HE BLESSES ME WITH HIS LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP. HE LOVES TO DANCE ALL THE TIME AND SING, AND HE IS VERY GOOD AT BOTH. WE ARE A DANCING AND SINGING DUO,AND NOW MS.JACKIE WILL MAKE IT A TRIO.
I have a one year old Peach-fronted Conure called Picasso and a two year old Green-cheeked Conure called Kosie. They are purely wonderful birds. Very intelligent companions who likes to nibble on everything, including my shoes. Picasso does not speak yet but the signs are there. Kosie speaks rather well and he often calls my daughter Nadiya ( who spends a lot of time with them) by her name. He flies around the house as he wish. When i enter the house he flies onto my shoulder and allow me to cuddle him. My daughter calls him from her bedroom and he responds. He likes to hide under her clothing and often pops his head out to see what
I HAVE A GREEN CHEEK CALLED CHEEKO! HE HAS BEEN WITH ME SINCE HE WAS 8 WEEKS OLD,HE IS 7 YEARS OLD NOW. LIKE ALL OF THESE FASCINATING BIRDS CHEEKO IS QUITE A CHARACTER. HIS VOCABULARY CONSISTS OF "CHEEKO", "CHEEKY", "WHATS THAT" AND HIS FAVOURITE "SHUT UP". EVEN THOUGH HE HAS BEEN WITH ME PRACTICALLY ALL OF HIS LIFE, HE PREFERS TO BE WITH MY HUSBAND ALL THE TIME! WE THINK HE IS IN HIS MATING SEASON AT THE MOMENT AND HE HAS LITTLE SEXUAL INUENDOS WITH HIS TOY. HE EVEN REGURGITATES ON MY HUSBAND. HE LOVES TO FOLLOW US AROUND ALL DAY-HE IS VERY NOSEY. HIS FAVOURITE FOODS ARE ICE-LOLLIES AND SWEETCORN BUT WILL NORMALLY EAT ANYTHING WE EAT BASICALLY. HE LOVES TO HIDE INSIDE NEWSPAPERS, BEHIND CUSHIONS AND EVEN INSIDE OUR CLOTHES.
BATHTIME CONSISTS OF SITTING IN THE KITCHEN SINK UNDER THE COLD RUNNING WATER. HE LOVES IT AND WE LOVE TO WATCH HIM. I WOULD NEVER EVER PART WITH CHEEKO. JUST ONE LOOK AT HIM PUTS A SMILE ON MY FACE ESPECIALLY WHEN HE SLEEPS. I LOVE MY LITTLE CHEEKO.
My Sugar is my first child. she is 8 months and we are working on her speech, thus far we can get her to mimic "pretty girl" quite well, but the funnest thing is that she want to talk unless it is night time and she is in her cage, or she is sitting in the bathroom while I am taking a shower, behind the curtin. I guess she is shy, how weird. Other than that she is the most lovable and cuddley thing I have ever had, dogs are not that snuggly!!! My Sugar loves to chase toes, shoes, socks, and slippers, she will puff them feathers up like she is sooo mad at them and chase you up and down the hall, I believe it is her favorite game, cause she will fly to the floor just to do this. She also hates/loves her diaper, hates to put it on, but loves to have it on once it is on cause she knows it means we are going to the pet store or going to see daddy. Can you tell she is my first child or what?!?
Crackers is almost 6 months old. I have had him/her for about 3 months and am crazy about this silly bird. They are so affectionate and playful. I am wondering if I should be expecting this bird to talk. I will still love my Crackers regardless, but was just curious. This is the best pet I have ever had.
My 6 month old Green-cheek, Maui was so playful. He loved to be cuddled and be fed apples. Although green-cheeks are quieter than most conure breeds, they do have a tendency to be nippy. You can remedy this by gently grabbing the sides of their beak and saying "NO BITE" in a firm voice. In order for this to work you must be consistent and never let them get away with it. I only had my presious Maui for about 8 weeks he was the best little friend I could ask for. Sadly, Maui was killed by our cat when he escaped from his cage to visit me in the next room. Even though I only spent a fraction of what his life could have been I enjoyed his comapany and his memory will live on forever.
He might be a she yet, but Bobby, my young Green Cheeked conure, is curious and intelligent. I do not want his curiosity to kill him. I lost my last 2 birds, cockatiels, to escape. Once he gets outside, it will only mean freedom. Watch doors, incoming visitors, open windows. It takes a lot of luck to get one back.
To the person with the water-shy bird: your bird is now afraid of the spray. Let him become curious on his own. If the cage is left in a quiet warm place, he will eventually take his own bath. You may have to do this for several days, especially in the case of your bird. That means do not disturb. They are smart enough to know when they need one.
These birds learn readily if they are not coerced. The best way is to incorporate their natural behaviors and follow their leads. Listen to your bird! Good luck!
