we have recently bought a mitered conure and at the moment he is behaving really hostile to whoever approaches his cage. He is about a year old and i want to know if he will ever tame down and become friendly at this age or if it will be impossible. His behaviour is improving the more time I spend with him and he is becoming more used to human company after being in an aviary with limited human contact. I want a bird I can interact with and enjoy Can anyone help with taming advice ??? thanks

A quick update , Joey My Gcc Is now bathing again, usually in my water cup when I am drinking out of it!

He has been with us for five months and is havign the best time being spoiled. He is sitting on my shoulder right now. ( a position he has held for the past 3 hours while I cleaned the apartment, watch tv, surf the net.

He even sits on my shoulder while I work out, When my girlfriend went to mexico with her family Joey spent the next 9 nights sleeping fluffed against my head on the pillow. He is a curuious little bird. My Girlfriend and I got him together and he has been the perfect pet.

I resently bought a Peach Fronted Conure...still searching for the perfect name. Wonderful bird. Gentle, but gets devilish at times, easy to quite down. Just wants love and to cundle in my hair and loves to press its head into my head. Was hand fed, and content to sit on his activity perch most of the day and nap, eat. We put its large cage, full of toys in our family room, which provides lots of various noises and stimulation for the bird. I did not start out holding him...or her allot, but let it settle in and relax after being stressed coming home from the pet shop. It ate and slept, and I now only hold it two hours a day, and it is a gentle, content bird. We are building our trust in each other, and after a short period of time, I can now, quietly, pet the back of our bird with out it being nervious. Beautiful bird!!

Hi Kathryn,
I regards to your question, I have a 3 year old Sun Conure named Gazoo, about the only thing I can get him to say is "Hello" which he learned all on his own when he was about 10 months old. Beside "Hello" he has learned no other words.

From my understanding Sun Conures are not very good talkers, but I have discovered they are good at mimicing sounds, and they are a ton of fun. Although Sunnies are not good talkers, but like all parrots they are very intelligent, and the more you hang out with your bird the more you will appreciate their intelligence, whether or not he/she ever learns to talk much.

Best Regards,
Bill

I recently bought a Sun Conure. His name is Harley. He is six years old and a lot of fun! I was wondering how do you go about teaching them to talk? Do you start with simple phonetics like "Uh Oh"? How often do you need to repeat the same thing?

I have a young 4 month old green cheek named Joey, He is very hesitant of water and often reuses to bath himself. Leading me to mist him with water, as a reaction to this he often just stands their in the water mist. Or gets scared and tries to run away. Anyone have any hints for me to get my little bird to like the water.

I bought my dusky conure....Snoopies.........in May and he has brought such joy to our home!!
He loves to cuddle and nap on me while I watch television..he also enjoys kisses and hanging around on my shoulder for hours.........Such a loveable bird.....truly a treasure...........If left alone in a room....Snoopies will chirp until someone comes to get him!
These birds are so affectionate it is incredible and difficult to believe unless you see it for yourself...
