I love my 8 year old green cheeck, Icarus, but he is not fun all the time. He is loud a lot of the time when I am leaving him to go to work or just leaving the room. I have him out playing with me a couple hours a day, but he still is very needy, and wants to be out all the time when I am home. He bites me pretty hard sometimes, particularly as a displacement when someone else comes into the room. He hates everyone except for me, regardless of many years of trying to incorporate other people such as my wife. He is loud every morning at 6-7am. I am not trying to complain, I love my bird and would not replace him with for anything, but realistically, he is a huge commitment, and I would not suggest to anyone without the time/energy to get one. I can't believe some of the things I have read such as kids bringing them into a classroom and having all the other kids handle the bird. Mine would make them bleed. And it is not just an owner thing, I am a researcher and will read up and try to do anything for my pets. I do think people should get this bird, but know the bad as well as the good.

I currently own a Jenday Conure and I named it "Cuddles". These are the sweetest parrots ever. I already owned a Quaker Parrot and he was so possessive of me not even my husband could get near me. Cuddles will let anyone hold him/her. I'm currently waiting for the DNA sexing results. According to this site, "Cuddles" should be a male by the Pure White Ring around the eyes.

If you want a sweet, loving, affectionate parrot,Jenday Conures are for you.

An important perspective on noise level: Patagonian conures are notorious for their high volume. I say high volume vs. loud because although their call is loud and possibly wall-piercing, they do not make it incessantly like my Quaker does, making my Quaker's constant noise MUCH louder than my Patty's occasional noise. Loud is a relative term, and the way species are labled is often misleading. That being said, they make excellent pets for those who do not live in apartments and have at least a couple hours to devote to them. They are the sweetest, cuddliest animals, and are great talkers and have quite the sense of humor. They are a good mix of affection and independence and retain the ability to entertain themselves on their own, making them higher-reward lower-demand than Cockatoos. Patagonians are excellent pet but with an over-inflated reputation for being "loud".

I have a green cheek conure that is around 3 months old. He is the funniest parrot I've ever come across - plays like a dog, sometimes biting a little bit harder than he should. We all love him very much. he's cheeky and funny and has started making mimicking sounds of words we regularly say. He loves to curl up behind my neck and lie down and sleep, making a clicking (grinding) noise with his beak.

I really love the pictures that you have here. my favorite is the golden conure. I have 2 conures and boy I thought that mine were beautiful, but the golden takes the prize. I love looking at this site and I also have 2 love birds, 1 parakeet, and 3 cockatiels, 1 dwarf hamster, 1 55 gallon and 1 5 gallon tank. I make sure that I give them all the attention and love that they need. thank you so much for sharing.

I've had a Blue Crown for over five years now. His name is Mumbles because when he was a baby (I hand raised him) he mumbled constantly. I almost called him Buttons because of the havock he has caused on numerous shirt buttons. Mumbles is a wonderfully affectionate and sweet bird and, oddly enough, has bonded equally to me and my wife. His favorite things? Bannanas, buttons, grapefruit, grapes, acrylic dangle toy he's had since birth, riding on shoulders. What does he hate? The opening theme music to Rachael Ray's 30 minute meals TV show, going to bed, the green and yellow pieces of his ZooPreem food (he only eats the red and purple!) His greatest quirk? I give him old (clean) oxford shirts to play with and every night he tucks himself in under them.

I have had parakeets in the past and unfortunately lost one to egg binding and one to a philodendhron that I have now gotten rid of. I was nervous about getting a new bird but once I got to the pet store and met Oogie my GCC it was love at first sight!! The only way I can describe him is like a tiny puppy with feathers. He is into everything, chews on everything including my very tolerant cats. He has not started talking but I believe he may be trying. He does imitate a couple of whistles though. When it comes to bedtime he has also learned the command "back in your cage oogie" I sometimes have to tell him a couple of times if he really really doesn't want to go.;)

I love peach front conures, mine is 6yrs. old. His name is KIWI. he is very friendly and has a vocabulary of about 6-7 words. He likes taking bathes and being petted. I've had my Dusky Conure (named Dusty) for a year now and he has been a complete joy to my family. We call him our Little Green Monster because he likes to be a little mischief at times. He loves to play fight like a kitten and follows me wherever I go. He even likes to rip up the morning paper as you try to read it. I could go on and on about how adorable and friendly these birds are. I would highly recommend Dusky Conures for anyone looking to buy a parrot.
