i have a cross between a sun and nanday. her name is keiven and is about 14 years old. hehe a year older than me. i've had her in my family for about 5 years and she's been a sweetie yet she can sometimes get agressive and draw blood. just recently she shattered her wing since her bones were thin because of nesting, so she's in a quiet small cage. she has been on painkillers, calcium, and anitbiotics. so far its been about 2 weeks since the fall and she is doing great.

for those of you who are having problems with biting and gnawing, just keep at it. be gentle, speak to them in a nice voice, and give them treats. they enjoy that, and will eventually start being a little angel. took about 1-2 weeks for me when we got her. =]

While browsing we (my blue crown and I ) found your site! Chuckles is a healthy female fifteen years young. She is a dear sweet friend who has traveled the country with me in a pickup truck, lived in a camper, experienced tornados and is now very happy way out in the wilds of northern Utah. She laughs, says hello and makes various funny sounds. She eats her Bonanza seed mix plus apples, grapes, cooked salmon, yams and peas with cheddar cheese. Lucky bird...lucky owner. I hope to have the pleasure of her company for another fifteen years or more.

We have a Jenday Conure named Max, and he is the most beautiful, friendly bird I have ever met in my life. It's because of Max that I am such a bird-loving person. He is still a baby, almost one, and he is such an amazing little guy. He loves to take showers with us and sleep in our beds, and as soon as anyone gets home, they immediately take him out, sit him on the counter, and give him a snack. (He can't be cooped up in his cage all day, can he?) The only problem we've ever had is the squawking, which we easily got used to in the first week or so of him living here. Max is going to be a part of our family for a long time!

Hi my name is Lola, I am a Green Cheek. My best friend purchased me about one month ago. I am almost five months old. I am very curious and playful. My new best friend and I enjoy playing games such as peek-a-boo and go get it. She is constantly working with me on expanding my vocab, so far I can say hello sweetie, pretty pretty and pretty birdie. I continue to try hard b/c I love the treats she feeds me (Honey Bunches of Oat cereal, my favorite is the clusters and almonds). We also like to sit and watch through the window, I am very intrigued by the wild birds we feed each day. Other than the great care and companionship my new friend offers, I also love picking on her kids and other pets. I love the reaction I get to nibbling their little fingers and cold noses. The cats are so scared they won't even look at me. I love my new best friend and best of all she loves me too. I can tell we will be together for a long long time.
Thanks for learning about us,
Lola and Stacy

No parrot is perfect as there are both pros and cons to owning birds. I am a long time bird owner and bird lover and I know quite a lot about parrots. For example, green cheek conures need a MINIMUM of 24 in. cage. Their water bowls must be cleaned out daily. They can fling food everywhere and make a huge mess. They poop excessively. They may screech in the morning and evening. They can be nippy if crabby and will use their beaks against you if provoked. They demand hours of devoted love and attention. Also, parrots can not just become part of your decor. They must be included in daily routine and family activities. You must only get a parrot if you are able to understand that parrots are living, breathing, creatures with individual personalities.
Also, although birds can be hard to care for sometimes, once you've done your research and you're truly ready, getting a bird is usually the most amazing and wonderful experience ever.

Rex is my beautiful little Sun Conure. He's about 14months old & I've had him for 10months. He loves to sit on my shoulder while I do stuff around the house & when he's tired he goes under my shirt to sleep on my collar bone. He often comes in the car in this way. He's extremely affectionate & very jealous of me. he 'hates' my husband & will 'attack' him if he tries to kiss me! As I write this he is giving me lots of kisses, (Rex - not my husband)! His favourite thing is to 'hunker down' in the palm of my hand so that I can tickle under his wings. He goes into a state of bliss during this! I get such a tremendous joy from him, it's worth all the noise & shouting in the morning. We have six parrots in all but Rex is definitely special. I dote on him! If you love birds but can't have a bigger parrot, then this is the species for you. Rex is beautiful, funny, clever, loving & very loyal. What more could you ask for?

Forgot to say that Rex loves to open all the buttons on my shirt & push it apart...which can be embarrassing when we have visitors around! He is good friends with our Greater Sulphur Crested, Lucy, but it took a while for him to accept her when she arrived 3months ago. Rex also enjoys hanging out of my hair(which is very long)& has been known to cause great surprise when his little head pops out of my black locks. When he's asleep inside my shirt he will slip his head out just enough to see what's happening when he hears new voices in the room or when he wants to check on me! One of his most entertaining tricks is to open & remove my earrings! He responds to his name & also knows "ah ah" means he's being naughty. At Christmas he came to the office with me & was a huge hit with all the staff, along with Lucy. He has proven himself to be exceptionally clever & very quick on the uptake. I look forward to coming home to him every evening...oh & also to see my family! Paulette

I have a green cheeked conure named Jaguar. He is a year and a half old (Maybe) For a green cheek he says a number of phrases quite clearly such as "Jaguar Rraaoow!" "Hows it going baby?", "Whats going on eh?", "Hello." "How are we today?", "Hi Baby!" "The Shadow knows,Henh, henh, henh,ha!" "Come here Jaguar.", and "Baby! Baby! Baby! "Pretty good vocab for such a little bird. He loves to eat whatever I'm eating and is a big fan of cranberry juice. Like a lot of conures he loves toys that weren't meant as toys. His favorites are the lids off of lipton Ice Tea bottles, my bright orange nalgene water bottle and my mettalic purple coffee cup/thermos. His newest fascinations are a collection of small stones (rose quartz, carnelean, amethyst, and jade.) that are just perfectly sized for his feet and beak. I put all these objects together on a low table and it is like the perfect play gym. He is of course jealous of other people who I show affection to but can come around eventually if they interract with him while he is on his cage or on me. Actually he will pick up things they teach him quite quickly once he realizes the "intruders" entertainment value. He loves mash potatoes, apples, red hot peppers, sweet carrots and fruit juice. He is fascinated by holes such as shirt sleeves and crevices between cushions. He sticks his head in them and then growls mightly, listening to the weird acoustics. He's a bossy bird but I totally love him.

I too, have a patty named Lucy, and she is my heart! She is just over a year old and is the best companion parrot I've ever had. She talks a storm up when I'm not around saying things like, "ah, you're such a good bird! Hi, how's it goin? What doin? and Pretty, pretty, pretty girl." She never wants to talk when she's with me, so I call her a closet talker. I recommend anyone looking to get a parrot to consider a patty.
