I have a female Citron-crested Cockatoo named her aflatoon. I really love her like a family person. she is so sweet, kind and fun. she is always playing and singing. If u want to get one, know that you should spend a lot of time with it.
I have a male Umbrella Cockatoo (Eean), a female Citron-crested Cockatoo (Lucy), and a male Muluccan Cockatoo (Widget). Eean is a sweet, shy, loving, well behaved bird that says 'hello' and 'please?' Lucy is a worked up, active, outgoing, one peson bird that won't take guff from other people. And when she wants to bite, believe me, she can bite! She is rather persuasive and when she wants something she will go great distances to get it. She does not say anything.
Widget is a very handsome boy that I got from a friend that was going to take the bird to the shelter two days after she got him. That's sad.
You know the saying,"You eat like a bird?" Well, that's rubbish! My birds eat like horses. Their daily fruits, veggies, and healthy foods is only a little of the food they get daily besides their pellets.
These birds are definitely NOT for beginners. But once you've done your homework, you are looking at a rich life with your cockatoo.
I haven't gotten my citron but I am saving, then I'm going to tell my breeder when I'm ready so she can get me one. They are really cool birds very affectionate and cuddly. They are also not as demanding as the other larger cockatoos. They can be a little loud at times but most birds are loud at times. If your'e thinking about getting a citron GO FOR IT but remember to do your homework first because they aren't a good bird for a beginner.
Although our Citron Crested Cockatoo wasnt treated properly for first 5 years of life until we brought her home she is a joy to have around and we treasure her very much. She is great to be around but not for everyone to own since they are very demanding on time and attention. Best of luck to all our feathered friends.
