My cockatoo, Kiki was very nice, she knew how to say alot of words including knowing my children by their names. She would even say "I got to go to the bath room". She could say almost anything and would make you laugh and then she would laugh at you. She was a real sweetie. She was our best friend and now she's gone. She pass away 06/12/2006 and will truely be missed. We loved her very much. She will always be in our hearts. Maybe one day we'll get another Cockatoo. Kiki was great.

I have a sesser sulphur crested cockatoo named Coqui and she is a sweetheart. Unfortunately, she was mistreated from the time she was weaned until we bought her 3 years later. Her previous owners spent a fortune when they first bought her (we have their receipts) on toys, food, a cage, etc. But by the time we got her, the only thing in her very dirty cage was a 1' long cement perch. She was never allowed out of the cage, and we assume she might have been abused because she is very neurotic, and frightens easily. We have had her for 8 months now, and last week, I was finally able to pick her up and sit her on my lap without her freaking out. She won't let us take her out of her cage, but she enjoys jumping around on it when she is out. She is beautiful and very loving, and she lets us scratch her behind her head while she is on or in her cage. It's taking time, but our little Coqui is very much worth it !!!

We got our cockatoo about 3 months ago, she was a rescue bird, that our friends sister had, she was no longer able to care for it, because of fear, the bird put her in the hospital, than our friend had her for about a year, she screamed the whole time there, his daughter has ear problems. As animal lovers my husband fell in love with her and kept talking about her, i went and met her and said than yes we will take her, she is so loving she makes kissing noises and i have taught her to blow kisses which is hillarious, she has a very large vocab, unfortunately she has a really bad potty mouth, and says swears in a different voice than her sweet i love you voice, she screams if you walk in the door, and don't go see her first, she loves attention, but will and does bite, man she like a snapping turtle with wings, she had done a lot of plucking at her previous home, but hasn't since she lives here, and her hair is growing back, she is loved very much, can't imagine life without her, she seems to play favorites my husband and i have to take turns caring for her, i have always been able to clean her cage and feed her but after sticking her in the bathtub, after we first got her she was not white, she hated me, would scream when she saw me attack at my hands when i would feed her grab at my clothes through the cage pull my hair, now she is nice to me and giving my husband the attitude, she chased him through the house the other day, and was biting at his feet and pants, she has not bit our children 14,12, and 9, they have all held her when she is in her loving mood, and are very aware of her bite for i have a huge scar on my arm. Having a greater sulfer cockatoo, never brings a dull moment, and she now's how to get your attention, my son screams mmmmaaaaaammmmm, sounds like a goat, and i hate it, he has always done that to get on my nerves, the bird is now doing it.

I have had my umbrella cockatoo for almost four years. We named her Rocket because she was born on July 4. She says about ten words. She is a real cuddle bug. The only complaint I have is when I pay $30.00 for a toy and she chews it up in less than a day. But, she is a real sweetheart and I am glad I have her.

This is in memory of Joey, who died in a house fire on Dec 15, 2005.He was overcome by smoke before he could be saved. I have owned and raised birds all my life, but Joey was the best of them all. He was only five years old when he died, but his vocabulary surpassed any bird I have ever owned, including African Grays. Joey talked in sentences: "Come over here right now, come on, come on. You know better than that. What are you doing? You know that's bad." He would continue like this for 30 minutes at a time, and rarely screemed. Joey did tricks, but only those he taught himself. His most unusual behavior was a total act of trust. He would come running at a very fast pace from my feet, and literately throw himself upside down by flipping into the air and landing on my shoulder. Many times I had to catch him or he would have fallen on the floor. I bought Joey when he was 4 months old, and never in his short life did he ever bite or nip anyone. Words cannot express how much I miss this little guy, but he will always be in my heart.

We have an unbrella that was caught out in the wild. we got her a year ago and she is a sweety. 2 minutes before my dad pulls up from work she gets annoying and starts squacking. she loves everybody and always is showing us how beautiful she is. every time we're eating she comes and eats off our plates. We put her outside in her tree but since we havent clipped her wings she likes to fly to the top of this big tree next to our house and sleep. she alays comes back. We take her on many of the family trips. she has become our other sister, she does some weird things though.

A bird Lover - 2006-03-29
I have a Rose-breasted Cockatoo named Jaimie and a Camelot Macaw named Sir Lancelot. A very sweet bird that is very happy to sit on my arm all day and coo to me. I purchased her as a baby from a breeder about 6 years ago. I had some doubts, but now I understand that I would never have lived if I hadn't gotten Sir Lancelot ad Jaimie.

Lewey's owner - 2006-03-28
I have a male Umbrella cockatoo named Salsa, a male Moluccan Cockatoo named Lewey, and a male Blue and Gold macaw named Max. I have never found a better bird than Lewey. He absolutely adores me. He likes my Umbrella Cockatoo and gets along with my Macaw. he adores everyone he meets and is quite a talker. He says: I love you. hi! night-night! You're a cutie! I'm a baby. Good baby! Lewey. Please? Cuddle time! Tickle time! GO AWA-A-A-A-A-Y!....and more. He makes different sounds from around the house and sings opera to get attention. But boy, can he be LOUD!! Anyone getting this bird should become used to the sound before purchasing. Otherwise, I love Lewey.

I have a male Umbrella Cockatoo (Eean), a female Citron-crested Cockatoo (Lucy), and a male Muluccan Cockatoo (Widget). Eean is a sweet, shy, loving, well behaved bird that says 'hello' and 'please?' Lucy is a worked up, active, outgoing, one peson bird that won't take guff from other people. And when she wants to bite, believe me, she can bite! She is rather persuasive and when she wants something she will go great distances to get it. She does not say anything.
Widget is a very handsome boy that I got from a friend that was going to take the bird to the shelter two days after she got him. That's sad.
You know the saying,"You eat like a bird?" Well, that's rubbish! My birds eat like horses. Their daily fruits, veggies, and healthy foods is only a little of the food they get daily besides their pellets.
These birds are definitely NOT for beginners. But once you've done your homework, you are looking at a rich life with your cockatoo.
