I gave my mother a grey cockatiel about 10 yrs ago. Nubby's father ate part of his wing off so he has never been able to fly . I got him when he was only 4-5 weeks old. My mother raised him as you would a real baby and spoiled him rotten, singing to him & making him his own crochet blanket since he had no feathers. Nubby talks, sings, plays dress up with colorful plastic rings hanging on the side of his cage, and knocks 3 times when he wants sugar(a Kiss). He makes the sounds of the kitchen door sqeeking and whistles the tune to the Andy Griffin show. Nubbys favorite saying is "Nubby goes to school" & "Nubby's smart." My mother passed away 3 yrs ago, and i am glad Nubby brought her so much enjoyment. to see them together was amazing. Nubby also is nosey, Mom would rattle a bag and nubby would climb up the side of her chair to see if she had potato chips. together they would sit and snack on chips, and fruit. I gave Mom another cockatiel that was female( Susie). Nubby didn't take to her being in his cage, but being placed in a cage beside him was great. Nubby stays with my sister now, and Susie passed away a week before Christmas. Nubby still gets spoiled but not as much as when my Mom was here. I am sure he misses her as much as we do.

My family and I have a grey, he is very loyal. We had April for over 13 years. He talks, whistle, sings, and bops his head to any beat. He is very smart, and will show his affection if he cares for you. He knows who his family is. They are great pets to have, and makes great buddies. (:

I just got a White Faced Cockatiel from my mom's friend because it wasn't getting enough attention from them. His name is Romeo and he's the sweetest bird I've ever met! I was worried about getting a bird at first because I had parakeets and they were very aggressive towards humans, but after I brought Romeo home I instantly fell in love with him. I recently went on a trip for the holidays and when I got home he was so excited to see me he didn't want to let me leave the room. He is definitely a good bird.

I have a Cockatiel named Zipporah, and she is the first bird I have owned. I always wanted a bird and she is very easy to take care of, even though when you show signs of waking up, whether you want to get up or not, she squeaks constantly for attention. I bought her from my school where she was hand fed and raised, an she is VERY tame, loves being scratched on the head and gives kisses! She whistles some of "jingle bells" and wolf whistles at people! Birds that have been hand fed and raised are great because they can be given to kids and make great pets. I love my Z, even though I have trouble finding time with school and work, but I know she loves me and I love her because she begs for her head to be scrached and chirps when you are someplace she is not but are still in eyesight!

I have a beautiful female Pearl named Belle, and a Handsome Pied named Al. They've been together for close to ten years and have just now started laying eggs. LoL I'm hoping to have some pearly-pied babies one of these days, but I'll tell you, I couldn't be happier with my two wonderful friends.

June of this year I got Oakley. He was a year old and talked quite a bit with short phrases like Peek A Boo, Good morning, Where's Oakley, Whatcha Doin and the usual whistles. A month later I accquired Andy, a white face on gray no red cheeks. Andy is gentle and sooo sweet. Both love to be petted. Took dog in for grooming today and came home with a month old Lutino. Love at first sight Beautiful bird. Looking over some of the comments - Sonny seems a good name. At first I was going to "Amos" or perhaps "Wyatt"- this sweetie is too pretty for that. Oakley kinda stopped his talking when I got Andy but boy did he shout all the words tonight when he met our new baby!
Thanks for this informative sight - As a fairly new bird owner I grasp all the info I can wherever I can.

I have a cockatiel named Peatree. We got him at a pet store about 4 days ago. He's not tamed. I can tell it will take a long time to train because he's so scared of a lot of things and he likes to hiss and bite, but things are a lot better than from the first day we got him. Although he's not yet tamed, I still love him! He chirps very loudly and I hope after he's tamed, I can teach him how to say a few words and to whistle a few tunes. He's grey, white and yellow with bright orange cheeks. He also has a very big crest! It's so cute. I recommend getting a cockatiel to everyone that wants a pet that would be loving, and cheerful. But I also recommend to everyone that wants a cockatiel, get one that's already tamed (hops on your hand at the pet store) and has been hand-fed. If not, you'll be spending lots of time being frustrated trying to tame it! In the end though, it will be all worth it. :)

I had my Pepy (female) for 10 years. She 4-5 when I got her. She died last Saturday night (She seemed fine and I have no idea why she died). She was my baby girl! I miss her so much. She was the best pet I ever had. I would love to get another gray female cockatiel soon. Peop;e say I should wait awhile and other say yes, get one now. I'm not sure what to do. Pepy was so weet. She could fly and found different places in my apartment that she liked to investigate. After having her for 2 years, we inherited another bird--a Half Moon Dwarf Conure named Taylor. These two were so much fun together! Taylor really misses Pepy. He looks for her all the time. This is why I am thinking of getting another cockatiel. No bird will ever replace my Pepy, though. She slept with me. I miss my bed partner. I would reccommend anyone living alone to get a cockatiel as they are the most loving birds you could ever get!

hi, i recently got a pair of cockatiels. they where not well care for the female is really mean. the male will fly and land on my arm or finger. so i have hopes they'll come around. the old owner used to keep them covered all the time when they needed their cages cleaned. i did notice after they saw me cleaning their cage and giving them water they perked up a bit and on day two the male was singing none stop. then the male started hammering his toy with his head so i looked it up and found it to be good. i don't know their ages but i have fallen head over heels for them. i named them bonita and goupo. i also have a black face love bird named solitaire. i have had him now for almost a year. butterfly from the vill
