How can I train my caique to say a word or two? He is about a year old? Is he still trainable? He does a few tricks and mimic a cricket chirping but no words yet.

Caiques are very very trainable - to play.  They have been taught hoops, basketball, riding a scooter - all sorts of different play and just having fun.  They are extremely expressive and will love you and scold you.  However, I have never heard of one talking - they will make many sounds and i guess it is us to understand their language.

I have a wbc named Abe and he speaks quite clearly. He is always asking 'what cha doing' very appropriately and says pretty bird and I'm a pretty pretty pretty pretty bird and is learning peek a boo and hi david. He also barks, quacks and wolf whistles so keep trying.

I have read a few of your comments and see some of you have got a caique so you must know alot about them. Iam intreseged in buying a bird, maybe a caique,so i have a few questions for you: Do caiques sing at night? Or do they sleep? Do they need alot of care, including playing?

I have a male white bellied caique. I purchased him from Patricia Riddle the owner of parrotville in Ohio. He is a doll! A handful but a glorious handful. Such a clown, everyday he does something new to make us laugh. Just like any little thing he has his faults too. He has a fiery little temper, but that's part of what we love about him! I think WBC are wonderful pets but are a big bird in a small body. We love that but what works for us may not be for all. I also highly recommend Parrotville. Ray would not be our spunky Ray had he not been raised up as good as he was.

I have a black headed caique and can only endorse what is written here, the caique is not for the faint hearted or for someone not at home It needs lots of interaction and remember to make sure you have your neck and arms well covered. Hair, clothes, and spectacles make good surfing objects. Alot of fun and can be noisy.

Great. My caiques would breed and they were also my pets. The caiques and conures were sooo happy to show me their little eggs and yet come out to give me kisses.

I had several pair. Most of them bred by the age of 3 and they had all bred by the age of 4. I had the advantage in that once one pair figured out what they were doing, they all caught on. Sometimes when there is a single pair, it takes them longer.

I have a white bellied and I also have a indian ringneck. they both get along pretty well even though they are two different types of birds. The only issue I have with the white belly is the occasional screeching fits they have. His name is chico and he is very entertaining and a clown. The bunny hopping is too funny.

I too have a white bellied and an Indian ringneck. Like yours mine get along well with Caique being a bit more pushy when they are together. My caique has screeching fits also but this started when s/he began to molt. It seems the first four feathers on both wing tips are chewed off to the wing tips. I don't know what to do for Caique except to let the feathers stubbles come out as a normal feather would. I would be interested to know if anyone else with caiques or any bird has this problem and if it resolved on its own.

I love the white bellied caique parrot when I was working in Birds International Incorporated as a handfeeder. The supervisor had always given me that caique as I have to take good care. As a handfeeder we take care them and love them so much. I handled a lot of caiques and I love them very much because they are playful and love to play, and seems they know who takes care of them. I really miss them so much.

They are expressive in their little tweets and sounds but they are not loud.  I don't see any way that a neighbor in a condo would hear them.  Not as loud as a microwave beeper or shower running.  They are vocal (not words) but can express themselves but just not loud.  They are essentially the comics of the parrot world and a lot of fun.  They pretty much get along with everything and everyone.  This is a great first bird, also.  Much much fun.

I have had my caique for a little over a year...she can be loud at times. As I'm typing she is screaming in her cage.

Just say where you are.  She can't see you and she hears someone in the home and gets scared cuz she can't find her 'flock'.  She just wants to make sure you are there and not a stranger.  If she knows it is you - she won't be upset.  If you are at work, they play.  There isn't another person in the home so its quiet.  If you are home, they want to be with you.

These caiques are really pretty with their black heads. Most other colored birds don't have black on them, only color!
