We have a 6 year old Double Yellow Head named Ziggy. We purchased him from a breeder at the age of 10 months. He "chose" me from the moment I entered her shop.

I must say he has certainly made a difference in our lives. We would be lost without his daily antics. And yes he is bonded much more to me then to my husband but allows dad to be the taxi service from his cage or parrot stand in order to get to mom!

I highly recommend everyone do their research before acquiring any exotic bird. They can be a true joy but also one must be forever aware of their mood swings, reading their eyes & body language and understanding that this is a lifetime commitment. They are flock creatures and you and your family are now their flock & they insist upon being a part of the daily happenings.

As I'm typing this Ziggy is sitting on my leg awaiting a trip to the shower, then will sit in the bathroom window yelling out to anyone that walks by.....a hearty wolf whistle, followed by a sing songy heeelllooooo, followed by a cheerful Good Morningggggg, followed up by a pitiful bye byeeeee.

Yes, life in our household would be a great deal quieter without him... but also a lot less humorous.

Hi My name is Shirley, I have had my Yellow Naped for 24 yrs. He is a charmer. Loves the whole family. He can sing several songs including Happy Birthday. He imitates several animal sounds. He can sing a certain song by the way I wave my hand. He has been healthy all of his 25 yrs. He does have some swear words that he picked up from his previous owner during his first year of life. He still remembers them at times, especially if he gets mad or excited or people are loud. He even remembers his previos owners name of 24yrs ago, which was Clare and Tony. He mimics a radio scanner, this is so funny. We feed him fruits and green veg. and parrots food sold commerically. Loves pizza crust! He loves the shower. I bring him in the shower with me and he perches on a shower rail and seys OH BOY. he just loves the shower. I even shampoo him and dry him with a dryer.
He sits on the toilet seat and loves the air from the dryer. "Take a while to dry a bird!!" I just love this guy, he has been very entertaining.

We had a Green Cheeked Amazon given to us about eight years ago. We think he is about 18 years old now. His name is Jerry. He does talk a little. He says Hello, Hi Bud, Hi Jerry. His favorite things to mimick is a rooster crow, clucks like a chicken, cries like a baby, complete with sniffles in between. He is our watch bird sitting in our front window. We always know when someone walks by the house and he lets us know when someone comes into the yard. He loves to have his neck scratched and will cuddle up in my hand and let me pet him. We have to be very careful when we have company because he gets very jealous and will attack someone who hugs my wife. I take him to the school and he loves to show off and make sure he is the center of attention. He is a great pet and a lot of fun.

Well, we were blessed with Manolo, our Mexican Red-Crown Amazon, almost two years ago. Originally, he was with my cousin and her husband who had him for 6 mos. They caught him flying around their neighborhood. They gave him to me, since they did not have the time for him, and felt he would be better in my care. With a lot of patience, Manolo came around and allows me and my partner to handle him. He seems to prefer males, as opposed to females. I estimate that Manolo is probably less than 3 years old. He doesn't talk yet, but loves to mimick our flock of cockatiels. He is the sweetest bird who lives for scritches. I love their sweet smell!

Just came across this site. How nice. I have a white-fronted Amazon named Leo. He's been with me for over 10 years now. He's my best buddy. Loves to cuddle and just be with me. He traveled from North Idaho to San Diego riding high next to me in a 17-foot u-haul truck. He enjoyed every minute--a real traveling bird. "Good bird" and "I love you" are his favorite vocalizations, although he doesn't articulate very well, I know what he's saying. He also whistles, warbles and imitates squeeking doors, zippers and cheering crowds! He's on my shoulder right now sticking his beak in my ear!!

My double yellow-headed Amazon is the best pet I ever had. I rescued him from someone who just didn't want him anymore. I thought, "What the heck!" and took him. I had parakeets before, but nothing compares to Oscar. I named him Oscar after Oscar Madison of "The Odd Couple." Oscar was, if you remember, the messy one. Well, "Oscar" is the perfect name for my lovable slob. He makes such a mess when he eats. And if I give him something soft to eat, like a piece of squash or other soft vegetable, he ends up with it all over his face. It's quite a sight. Oscar is very friendly with me, but not so with other people. I think it's because I am not afraid of him, I trust him, and he trusts me. We rough-house all the time. He rolls over and lets me scratch his belly. He likes to be scratched behind his "ears." He doesn't talk an awful lot, mostly "hi", "by" something that sounds like "grandma" and "Melissa". He laughs a lot, and when left alone, he can be heard chatting away as if he were talking to a friend on the phone. This is something he must have picked up from a previous owner. Overall, he is great to have around. He is very entertaining, and I'm so glad he likes me too.

I first met my blue fronted amazon, Yoda, the day he hatched and now he is about 10 months old and the absolute joy of our house hold. He has 2 cages, a perch outside and a perch in our bedroom that he sleeps on every night. He has a excellent vocabulary that he is adding to ever day! He even tries to sing "take me out to the ball game" which is hilarious becuase he gets the words mixed up but has the tune down pat! He absolutley insists on eating with the family and he rivals our children with his ability to make a mess. We do a lot of entertaining and Yoda loves the excitment of a crowd. When ever a lot of people around you never know what he may say but one thing is for sure, it will be loud!

I've had Gonzo my orange winged amazon for 14 years now ( he is 19 ).
I adopted him from his previous owner who could't care less about him.
He is the most loving and affectionate bird. He gets along well with my 3 other birds, a quaker, moustached parakeet and conure. I trained him to break balloons and if he ever see's one he goes after it. He is so bonded to me that he screams when I leave the room. These birds make excellent pets. He loves to go outside for walks with me. He is also the mascott of our classic car cruise-in and goes weekly.
