I have owned my Orange-winged Amazon for 20 years and I love her dearly. She was not a baby when my father brought her home; I think there were at least two owners before me. She was scared of everything and trusted no one. It took several years for her to trust me. I was patient and loving and gave her lots of attention. She was very afraid of hands and feet but loved faces. I believe she was mishandled by someone before I found her. She is scared of most strangers, tolerates women and has always disliked men. After several years of marriage she has started to tolerate my husband. She is a wonderful companion. She has her moments of being loud; sometimes the neighbors can hear her across the street when all the doors and windows are closed. She seems to have psychologically dominated every dog I have owned; they are all scared of her (with out ever having physical contact). I have never been able to teach her to talk, however she does whistle and laugh when I whistle or laugh. She loves to eat ice cream out of her own spoon! She calls me when she wants attention, is very curious and loves to explore new places (inside cabinets and on top of furniture). She can get carried away and has destroyed wooden objects in the home (furniture and crown molding), and sometimes entire plants. We have developed a wonderful relationship and only I know what she wants and how she is feeling at any certain time of the day.

Hi my name is Corry i have a Blue fronted amazon. i bought him about three years ago. he was in bad shape, the people before me used to keep him in a closet. he had then plucked all his feather out due to stress. i took him home and to our local vet, and now he is the most beautiful bird. he only likes me and my kids and not my husband due to the fact that man had harmed him to badly. He is now 10 yrs old and doing very well and I love him very much. he goes to school and car rides all the time. he now goes everywhere i go including work. I just want to say thank you to all people who had rescued an animal. it means a great deal to both me and the animals

Hi. I have had an amazon parrot now for about 6 months. He came from a home with no love, toys, etc! He used to be shut in a room all on his own. Now I have him taking food from me and I can stroke his head all the time. He is still scared of some of his toys I have bought him...LOL... But I feel that I'm getting there. He spends most of his day out of his cage. I wish he would be more sociable with others, but I guess that will come in time. ps. What a great site this is!

Hi, have just acquired a wonderful double yellow-naped amazon (Jazz) she is just great. After having been with people who rarely interacted with her she was given to a wonderful "bird rescue" lady. At that time you could not get near her at all but with gentle handling she came around in two weeks. I brought her home and just sat next to cage for a while but was soon handling her, we made friends. I also have an Umbrella Cockatoo and Blue Front Amazon. I enjoy their calls and speech, share meals with them, couldn't ask for better companions. Got to go and get them up for our breakfast and chit chat session. Thanks for all the information Rita

Hi! I have a 2 1/2 year old orange winged amazon. His name is Paco and he is a hoot! He says, "Good morning", "bye-bye" "wanna take a bath", "I love you", "wanna go outside", "hello", "good boy Paco", "bad boy paco", "stop that", "don't you do that", "step up", "ok", "what?", "bad dog", "huh", "are you a good boy", just to name a few of his phrases! I was told that orange winged amazons did not talk well...they have never met Paco! For the most part he is an awesome addition to our family. He does however have one bad habit...he likes to scream at the top of his lungs when you leave the room! Hopefully we will be able to modify this behavior with time.

Hi, I'm Jack I got my Blue Front Amazon at aprox. 6 month old was very afarid of hands. He would take food from my hand thru the cage, but bear hand was like a gun,with help from a few good bird people out there, I can now hold him, turn him over holding his feet, and he talks alot, he is a good pet. I treat him very well so dose he :) .I'm starting to click train him I hope he catches on fast, but I will give him a chance. He is only over 2 years old.

Thank you for the information on our little "Sam". He is a white fronted Amazon. He is a year old and is talking. He is saying "thank you" and "I love you" and the best word he says is "George" and he pronounces both "G"'s. Of course no one believes he talks because he gets shy when anyone but myself is near him. Love him a lot.

HI TO ALL YOU PARROT LOVERS. I GOT MY FIRST ORANGE-WINGED AND HE IS JUST STUNNING. HE BARKS LIKE A DOG, WOLF WISTLES, AND ANSWERS THE PHONE BY MAKING THE NOISE OF ONE. JUST GREAT FUN TO HAVE AS A PET. I ALSO FIND THIS BREED OF PARROT VERY WASTEFUL, DROPS ALOT OF HIS FOOD AND TREATS TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CAGE. DOES NOT LIKE TO BE HANDLED BUT WILL TAKE FOOD FROM YOUR HAND. I DO NOT KNOW HOW OLD HE IS....I KEEP SAYING HE AS HE DOES NOT LIKE HUMAN MALES ONLY FEMALES. HIS NAME IS LEO. WELL I THINK I HAVE SAID ENOUGH ABOUT MY BABY. BYE BE GOOD TO YOURSELF AND TO OTHERS...but most important be kind to your parrot.
