My roommate has just recently purchased a scarlet macaw and it is the greatest pet in the world. He's actually sitting on my lap now taking a nap. The can get a little nipping and we are trying to break that habit now.

I have the same bird, i got him from my sister, she couldn't take his screeming any more, and i felt sorry for him. No he lives with me and like to play a lot takes a shower with me every morning. His cages is always open so he flyes everywere in the house, and loves it, dosen't screm that much. I am very happy with him. Needs a lot of attention. Read a lot about those birds before buying!!!

My very good friend and parrot club member raises cockatiels and lovebirds. She has one pair of Meyer's that always produces 4 eggs and hatches them all. This year I decided to adopt one of her chicks from the first clutch of the year. Visiting her frequently, I was able to determine which baby I would get. It was the one who wanted out of the cage so he could see things better. All that his 3 siblings wanted to do was try to get under each other in a corner of their cage. Considering the rather odd noise the Meyer's make, I decided to name my new friend Squeek. Squeek is all of 12 weeks old; I have had him for 3 weeks now and his twice daily formula feedings are slowly fading to just one. It is too bad that as adults they do not retain their covet feather edging in green. What attracted me to the Meyer's was how soft their feathers were. They feel like feathered bunnies. Squeek, my new best friend for life.

I purchased Java, a female, in 1980 when she was about 1 yr old as an imported bird, a norm during that period. She is a wonderful friendly bird with a calm disposition. However, at 19 yrs old she started to feather pick and after several years has managed to do a lot of permanent feather/folicle damage. These birds require A LOT of personal attention, not only during the first years of their life, but throughout their life. There was a period several yrs ago I did not give her the attention she needed, and the picking started. Although she now gets plenty of love and attention, the picking is now a habit and reversal has been unsuccessful..although we're still trying. I can go on and on with all the positives of these incrediable loving birds who will go out of their way for your hugs and kisses (they prefer this over food when being rewarded for tricks), but please do not purchase a Mollucan unless you can give it LOTS of love and attention every day of their long 60 yr life span.
