I have a 27 month old Harlequin, "Amazing Grace", that I believe God sent to me just before I was to lose my constant companion, "Rocky" an 11yr old Rottweiler, to cancer. As dogs live such short lives compared to how long we would love them, I did not know how I would bear this lose. But Grace loved me and let me love her, even though I was a first time bird parent and was sometime clumsy and even alittle afraid. This wonderful soul gave me a reason to know life goes on and it is what we do with it that shows tribute to the ones that go away to soon. Grace, is the love of my life and if someone would have tried to tell me how loving, funny, sad, into everything she can find, life we would have coming, I would not have believed it. So, Thank you for my little girl and her laughter and I know she is and always will be to me. Boo to all that do not give so called hybrids their place in this world as they are gifts from God himself!

sulphur crested cockatoos are beautiful birds. I have had mine for 15 years and he is still as white as he was when I got him at 5 years.
Would like some info on how to get him to talk more than say his name and the cats and hello.

I have three of these wonderful birds, two girls and one boy. I am their mom and they are my kids. They each have their own personality. Every morning I get the "good mornings" and we begin our morning ritual which involves cleaning their cages and preparing their meals. They are practically always outside of their cages while I am home. But when I leave the house, I put them back in their cages and the long good-bye begins. They start with "bye-bye" and "I love you" and it never fails to make me feel bad for leaving them, even for an hour. If you are thinking of getting a grey, please note that they are extremely intelligent and with that comes the need for lots of mental stimulation that you will always have to provide them with. In return, you will get the love and affection of a life-long friend.

We live in Cheltenham (in the west of England) and for four months we have been the proud owners of a Meyers Parrot named Cupcake. He was only five months old when we bought him and in the short time since then he has learned a great deal. He can imitate the telephone and the sound of the curtains being drawn and he cries pitifully when left alone. However, what particularly amuses us is his behaviour during our meal times. As soon as he sees the table being set he comes to the bars of his cage and chirps at us for food. He loves peas and baked beans and he is particularly fond of toast (which he dunks in his water pot before eating). So far he has not said an intelligible word - but he chats away happily in his own robotic language and clicks his tongue as a greeting each time we come into the room. He enjoys riding around on my shoulder but, when thwarted, he can really bite!

He might be a she yet, but Bobby, my young Green Cheeked conure, is curious and intelligent. I do not want his curiosity to kill him. I lost my last 2 birds, cockatiels, to escape. Once he gets outside, it will only mean freedom. Watch doors, incoming visitors, open windows. It takes a lot of luck to get one back.
To the person with the water-shy bird: your bird is now afraid of the spray. Let him become curious on his own. If the cage is left in a quiet warm place, he will eventually take his own bath. You may have to do this for several days, especially in the case of your bird. That means do not disturb. They are smart enough to know when they need one.
These birds learn readily if they are not coerced. The best way is to incorporate their natural behaviors and follow their leads. Listen to your bird! Good luck!

Got a beautiful baby Lutino 3 weeks ago and he is an absolute darling! He will walk around my neck preening my hair, nussle into my cheek and loves to be petted. I am allergic to animal fur and never thought I would be able to have a "loving" pet, but now I know I was wrong.

My lorikeet was given to me by a vet surgeon when i took my budgie up there for a check up. Her name is Cherry but somehow she gets called Cheryl. she is full of personality and very loving to me only ... she is almost like a bodyguard. if someone slaps me or puts there hand on me she lunges and bites them HARD! hehehehe! she sleeps on the head of my bed and snuggles in the morning. i must say she has brought a lot of joy into my life :)

I have a grey cockatiel that i got from an auction about 4 years ago. He was pretty good with handling when we first got him, but after we put him in with a female he wasnt. We bred them but the female died shortly after. Only one of the babies survived. Tango(my greys name) took care of the baby until the night it passed away which was about 7 months after birth. Now i have trouble getting him out to handle him. He is really nice and talkative in the cage, but when i finally get him out he gets really nasty and bitey. It takes about 10 min. for him to calm down. I dont know if i just need to handle him more, if it is just bad genes, or what.
