I have 7 parakeets but Im only gonna talk about 1. My third parakeet is PARADISE. He has a yellow face, dark blue tail, a bright green body and his wings lined with black. I had Paradise for maybe 2 years or so, but he is my all time favorite. But, if I count all the parakeets I ever had, I would have ten. Now I am down to 7, but out of ten Paradise is my favorite little buddy. The first time I ever took him out of the cage, he looked at me and jumped on my leg. Then climbed up my shirt and onto my shoulder. He cuddled up in my hair. He just loves to snuggle in my hair or in my shirt. After a couple of hours of playing Paradise was pooped, but we wanted to keep playing with him so we put him in a small car and he fell asleep in the back 2 seats. it was so adorable. Then we pushed the car around our room. Then we tacked up one of the barbie horses I had and put him on it. He just fell asleep on it. It was the cutest thing in the world. He was so pooped. He just fell asleep wherever we put him.

I have a blue fronted amazon, a senegal parrot, and a pastel peached face love bird. My amazon treats the other two as if they were his off-spring, and he is always feeding them. It really is something to see this bird interact with the other birds and myself. Swoop is his name and he has over a 50 word vocabulary and he is only 2 yrs old. Truly they are amazing birds, and I love mine as if it were a child.

Parakeets can be extremely cheery birds if kept well. I have rescued birds that have been found in the wild and managed to tame them yet again. Have perserverance and you will have one of the most loyal pets you can have. I sometimes see my birds as more of a character and more fun to be with than even my dogs, especially my red bellied parrot.

Just lost my Indian Ringneck (Casey)and her loss affected me more than any other pet that I have had. I had her 12 years and from day one she loved me like no other. Her personality and spirit exceeded her size. She would sway on her perch and put her little head under her wings when she saw me. I absolutely loved that bird and I am desperately trying to find another one. I have had many pets in my lifetime including birds but none have touched my heart like her. Highly recommend

I had purchased a female yellow mantle and find this bird to be absolutely prolific. She was approximately 1 year old at purchase. She used to "keek, keek" a lot..thought I would get her a mate, some how I thought she was calling for a mate and ever since I bought the male for her she has been somewhat quiet. I will always have these birds as one passes on I will acquire another. Also the female accepted the male immediately, and they mated in an active home environment. About everything the books said they would not do.....THEY DID! I also believe they are very acceptable to family life to be held and played with. The female I have was adaptable to just about everything....this may be unusual but I have had very good luck with the rosellas. They are now paired and breeding and as far as I know never fight. The female is attentive and loving both to her babies but ALSO to the MALE.

We have two parakeets, Sunny and Sky. we got these birds from dad, after his mother passed away. we built them a fairly large cage so they could fly around. They seem to be much happier. Before visiting this site we had no idea we could let them out to fly around. We will try that. We thought they may be attempting to mate. we hung branches in their cage and it looked as though they had gathered leaves in a corner of the cage, we are now building them a nest box. We did not know that they could talk, we will try to teach them. Thanks for this website!

I have a blue ringneck named Virgil. He is by far the best bird we have ever owned. He stays on his cage and likes to sit on top. We have never closed the door to his cage and he has never flown off. He loves his home. We also have never had a need to clip his wings. He has learned to say a few words and is very talented and does a few tricks. His favorite foods are fresh corn on the cob, mango, grapes, broccoli, and peanuts. I highly recomend this type of bird!!

I had a Catalina Macaw for about 12 years. Me and him (or Her) were buds. We got along really great, we slept together (by my head), we played every single day. His/her name was Tailgate. I purchased him/her over in Hawaii for $1,800 and it was worth every cent. I got rid of his cage about 5 years ago and just put him/her on a perch. It worked out really well. (a couple of times he/she did get down) He/she did have his moments, but not really towards me. He/she adapted to two people in our house real well. Did not really like anyone else. I had to move and place him up in our cabin in the moutains for a couple of months with my former roomate. The day I was to go up and pick him up and take him to his new home, he died. No one knows what happen to him/her. It appeared as though he/her fell from the perch and broke his/her neck. A freak thing I guess. I was very upset. This bird meant everything to me. I cried for about 1 week. (this happen just about 2 weeks ago) I have been looking at replacing him/her with another or even a Hyacinth Macaw, but I lack money. Maybe some day I figure. I will be moving over to Hawaii in October and who knows.
