I have a Normal Grey Cockatiel. He is so adorable and he talks and whistles! He says 'prettybird' 'Baby?' "Peek-a-boo!' and he actually plays it sometimes! Says 'helloo' He says a lot of things and he also does the 'wolf whistle.' Don't buy a bird if you just want it to talk. Research! I would recommend a Cockatiel as a first time bird!

I live in Northern California and have been raising Gouldians for about 10 years. I have bred indoors in single pair cages and outdoors in open flights. I keep all of my Goulds in NON heated environments. The indoor birds have windows open allowing for temperature changes in the summer and winter. My birds easily tolerate 40 degree nights in the winter and 105 degree days in the summer. I do not provide heat lamps outdoors either. I only wrap the outdoor aviary in plastic during winter to keep out strong weather and wind. A variation in temperature is necessary for a strong healthy bird. Birds raised in temperate climates with minimal temperature changes tend to be frail when exposed to change. This leads to deaths when birds are sold to folks that do not mirror the conditions in the temperate environment. See research completed by Robert Black entitled "hot house finches" for further details.

Hi, I just got a double yellow amazon about a month ago... I work at a pet store and raised the bird from a baby and had never heard him talk or anything. In the month I have had him, he has learned 20+ different words and the complete "Adams Family" whistle. These birds are very vocal and great to have around. I like him a lot and hope that others get into the bird hobby.

Corky is her name, we got her from a breeder and what a beautiful girl she is. We wanted a male but we love her. She talks and is only 6 months old. We know she could get egg-bound at a certain age. Do you know what we could do to prevent that? Did you ever hear a bird say "Missed you Toosie" That is what she says when I come from work! Pretty neat! SK Cherry Grove, PA

I have a one year old Peachfronted Conure called Picasso. It is a purely WONDERFUL bird. A very intelligent companion who likes to nibble on everything, including my shoes. It does not speak yet but the signs are there.

I have two sun conures. Both are rescues. As numerous bird books explain, a rescued bird is hard to handle since you have to teach them all the proper behavior and skills they needed to learn from their first owners.
My first sun, Charlie (one of the reasons I HAD to buy him), was a big biter, a big screamer, etc. Basically he was one of those birds that most people would just as soon strangle than look at. He bonded with me within a week. It took me a month of anguish and pain to rid him of excessive screaming and other bad habits.
My second sun, Petout (pronounced Pee-too), was given to me by my landlady who was a single mom with two kids and very little time for a bird. Petout was a womans bird. She hated men and bit them if they ever got near. I was amazed. It only took me about a day to stop her from biting me. Her behavior tends to be better than Charlie.
Both birds are very loving and sociable now. Aside from occasional screaming (when someone walks by my window) and annoying beeps (imitating the microwave), they are fantastic. I find that suns only get noisy when excited, scared, or surprised in some way. Otherwise they are VERY quiet. Petout has a cute little meep meep when shes sociable. And Charlie has a goofy little squEEeeEEK that imitates a sqeaky door and gives TONS of kissy noises when strangers are about. When Charlie knows hes been bad, or is angry at something, he shouts no (the only clear word he speaks) and grumbles. Thats about it for noise. I love these birds more than anything. The are absolutely my children and I will always treat them as such.
