My Solomon Island eclectus has been a joy to have. I have had her since she was about 7 months old. I grew up with birds ranging from small zebra finches, parakeets and a dove and now my beautiful Ruby. I love all kinds of birds.

I have a Lori named Jose - He is about 5 yrs old and I have had him a week - I just love him! He talks, gives kisses, says I love you, pretty & sexy bird - he can sound just like my cordless phone and even mimics the sound of the tone when dialing. He loves to be out of his cage but only likes to be handled by me. Lori's are great birds to have. He has to have soft toys because they are soft beaked birds.

Very intelligent and interesting birds. I have one that was actually trained to talk, and of course you can count on the fact that he does swear at times, too!

I have had my grey, Puck, for almost 13 years now. She was my very first bird, and I had to learn the art of taming her, as she was nasty when I first got her. Within two weeks of taming, she was bonding to me nicely.

I must agree that she has been the best pet I have ever had. The love and affection she shows is unsurpassed. I love to come home and hear her happily chirping for my arrival. She tends to get clingy, as I call it, when I am sitting on the sofa, working on the laptop, she will climb down her cage and stroll over to be picked up.

I know the day will come when I lose her, but, I cannot picture life without her. She is an awesome bird, and I love her to death!

I purchased a Lesser sulphur crested cockatoo in Nov.2004 he was born in July. He was tame and gentle, but at times he had his moments. He was so demanding that my life was centered around him. After 5 months I called the breeder and returned the LSC back to her. It broke my heart. I get very attacted to animals very easily, especially when he was so sweet most of the time. I would like to let people know how much time they require and how messy they are. Think many times before you make a decision. I learned the hard way.

I have two parakeets- one male (Bud) and one Female (sissy). they seemed to have mated, of course. However, it seems that Bud has taken over the nesting; from making the nest to sitting on the eggs.
Also, I noticed that Sissy had laid an egg before the last two, then it was gone. I saw shredded (paper I had shredded for nesting) paper with yellow on it. The only thing I could surmise is that one of the birds ate the egg. Now Bud, as I said seems to be very protective of the eggs and she just stays out, but only to deposit the next egg and leaves the nest.

I enjoy them completely and refer to them as our children. Much to my friend's shagren. ha ha ha

I have a Normal Grey Cockatiel. He is so adorable and he talks and whistles! He says 'prettybird' 'Baby?' "Peek-a-boo!' and he actually plays it sometimes! Says 'helloo' He says a lot of things and he also does the 'wolf whistle.' Don't buy a bird if you just want it to talk. Research! I would recommend a Cockatiel as a first time bird!

I live in Northern California and have been raising Gouldians for about 10 years. I have bred indoors in single pair cages and outdoors in open flights. I keep all of my Goulds in NON heated environments. The indoor birds have windows open allowing for temperature changes in the summer and winter. My birds easily tolerate 40 degree nights in the winter and 105 degree days in the summer. I do not provide heat lamps outdoors either. I only wrap the outdoor aviary in plastic during winter to keep out strong weather and wind. A variation in temperature is necessary for a strong healthy bird. Birds raised in temperate climates with minimal temperature changes tend to be frail when exposed to change. This leads to deaths when birds are sold to folks that do not mirror the conditions in the temperate environment. See research completed by Robert Black entitled "hot house finches" for further details.
