Hybrid macaws are undoubtedly beautiful, but you can't beat the "originals" for color, pattern and intensity, as well as known personalities!

I got my Hahn's macaw Raleigh Napole'hahn' 5 years ago as a 4 month old baby. He and I met at a pet show where his breeder had brought him along with multiple other baby parrots. The deciding point for me was his reaction to this 10 year old boy that came up to him and was poking towards his face with a finger. Suddenly, he looked intently at the child, flashed his eyes and yelled "boo!" He child ran away in surprise and I knew that I had to have him. Since then he has grown to be the ruling animal member of our family barking with the dogs, calling them over by name to try to bite them, yelling hello whenever the phone rings, reminding us when it is time to wake up or go to sleep by appropriately asking for "breakfast" and adamantly screaming "night night". He also tells people that he is a "Hokie Bird" (appropriate for a Va. Tech alumni and loves to play peek-a-boo, kiss and cuddle under your chin. I would highly recommend this bird to someone looking to have an easy going, flexible and small parrot. This is a commitment though since these birds live an average of 40 years and will always have the mentality of a mischevious 3 year old constantly playing games to see what type of reaction they can get from you. Fun!

I gave my mother a grey cockatiel about 10 yrs ago. Nubby's father ate part of his wing off so he has never been able to fly . I got him when he was only 4-5 weeks old. My mother raised him as you would a real baby and spoiled him rotten, singing to him & making him his own crochet blanket since he had no feathers. Nubby talks, sings, plays dress up with colorful plastic rings hanging on the side of his cage, and knocks 3 times when he wants sugar(a Kiss). He makes the sounds of the kitchen door sqeeking and whistles the tune to the Andy Griffin show. Nubbys favorite saying is "Nubby goes to school" & "Nubby's smart." My mother passed away 3 yrs ago, and i am glad Nubby brought her so much enjoyment. to see them together was amazing. Nubby also is nosey, Mom would rattle a bag and nubby would climb up the side of her chair to see if she had potato chips. together they would sit and snack on chips, and fruit. I gave Mom another cockatiel that was female( Susie). Nubby didn't take to her being in his cage, but being placed in a cage beside him was great. Nubby stays with my sister now, and Susie passed away a week before Christmas. Nubby still gets spoiled but not as much as when my Mom was here. I am sure he misses her as much as we do.

Hello im from Australia, we bought our Alexandarine home just 3 months ago, he is almost 5 months old. He comes everywhere with us, sometimes i let him sit in the peach tree as he has not learned to fly yet and his wing is still clipped. I would love him to be a free flyer, im teaching him to fly to me in the house, when we are out side he never tries to get away. he sits on my headrest in my car and with the window down an inch he loves getting the wind through his feathers, this is one of his favorite spots. He loves to chew on branches from the fruit trees and my daughters dinosaur collection. He can say hello to my other birds too.

I share my house with 8 macaws. I find my Bluethroat to be the sweetest next to my Hyacinth. He absolutely loves to cuddle and will go to anyone. He does not have a preferred companion and loves to spend time equally with both my husband and I. He is the master mechanic of the group and succeeded in taking his cage doors off within a few days of arriving in our home. I have met other BTMs and have not found them to be as loveable. I feel a lot of it has to do with socialization as a baby. he can be loud at times and his vocabulary is not as good as the Greenwings. Oscar is 3 years old.

I have a green cheek conure that is around 3 months old. He is the funniest parrot I've ever come across - plays like a dog, sometimes biting a little bit harder than he should. We all love him very much. he's cheeky and funny and has started making mimicking sounds of words we regularly say. He loves to curl up behind my neck and lie down and sleep, making a clicking (grinding) noise with his beak.

i have enjoyed the company of my parakeet for 14 years now. its been a sad run as hes outlived a dog and 3 other birds. like clock work everyday at sunrise he sings a song then again around midnight. he likes to sing. he has good days and bad days. sometimes he likes to come out and play other times its like hes in killmode. i know that i will always have a parakeet. they are truely great to have around, however you should avoid keeping them near a phone for after time they learn to imitate the ringer

I currently have two wonderful lovebiirds. they are both supposed peach-faced lovebirds, but i just saw a picture of the Dutch-Blue lovebird, and now I am beginning to wonder about the true breed of the male. The other, the female, was purchased from a chain pet store. I do not recommend buying one from a large, chain-brand, pet store simply because the communication and socialization of the bird was very poor. but if you have your own favorite pet store (we bought our friendly male from OURS), owned by someone you can trust, go ahead and indulge yourself in one of these bright, cheery, beautiful animals. I warn you that, they're addicting, we bought one and a year later bought the other!
Oh yes, if you can get a love bird, the younger they are the more trainable, AND DON'T FORGET THE RESCUED ONEs!!
