Hello everyone, i have a beautiful Bavarian Queen. Its a year old. Has all the papers. It came from a very good exotic bird place in FL. Very healthy. The bird is lovely! Very sweet and gorgeous. Very docile with everyone. Unfortunately, i am unable to keep the bird anymore. I am looking for a nice home for him. I have beautiful pictures of him. If interested, please reply to this comment. Hi - I'm guessing that this bird is long gone. Could you tell me where you got it, if it's gone? If it's still available, I'd be very interested.

I have a parakeet that makes a 'squeak' sound almost every second. At night he will do this almost all nigh(we are in the other room it doesn't bother us at night wile sleeping). Every now and then he will stop then start again. It sounds like almost every inhale/exhale produces a squeak. Worrying about him but he seems to be OK in the daytime. Every now and then in daytime he will do this.

That is a strange habit. It could possibly be a respiratory issue, but if he's eating and active, it may not be anything to worry about. A vet checkup may help determine if he's got anything that can be treated.

Parakeets are not only sooo cute but too much fun to be with. My little Makapoo is a doll! He began talking within a couple of months. Your chances are much higher (for a talking parakeet) if you buy a male. At last count he had a vocabulary of about ninety words. Yes they are very curious and fly fast. Once I was looking for something in the refrigerator and between the time I got what I wanted out of the fridge and closed the door, he flew inside. He was talking and singing earlier so I went looking for him all over the house. I don't know what made me look in the fridge but there he was on the shelf. Thank god he is healthy and strong. I feed him bird food that does not contain artificial colors or chemicals, purified water, organic dried greens, fresh veggies, and I sprinkle daily essentials 3 on his food too. Always make sure your hands are clean when playing with them and I am super careful about cleaning products that I use. If you want top of the line bird products and advice, call All Bird Products at 888-588-3892. They are true bird lovers and will answer all your questions. Have a great life with your best friend. Makapoo is actually my therapist. HahAhah...

My son gave me a cockatiel then a week later gave me a parakeet so the cockatiel would have a friend. They get along fine. Would they do okay in the finch aviary ?

I personally never mixed parrots (Psittaciformes) with finches (Passeriformes) as the hookbilled parrots can do a lot of damage to these smaller birds. If the aviary is very, very large, you may be successful, you would have to try it to see. But I would still be cautious as the situation could become unstable at any time, especially when any of the birds go into breeding mode.

The Story of my Little Peg:
I work at an animal hospital and one day a pet store brought in a little female Zebra Finch with an infected leg band. They had waited too long and the leg was dying and required amputation. The pet store did not want to pay and asked the vet to euthanize her. The vet refused and stated that the finch could live with 1 leg. The pet store said that they could not sell a one legged bird so keep her and do whatever you want with her. I took her home and named her "Peg". A few months later I was buying food for her at a different pet store and was asked what kind of bird I had. I told them and they asked me to adopt another Zebra Finch whose wing was defective and had difficulty flying. I said yes and brought him home. He and Peg were so cute together and they hopped everywhere they went so, I name them Peg and Jimmy Hopper. They now have 2 chicks who are 3 weeks old and Peg and Jimmy are totally in love. Peg has a good life now with a new husband and two little ones that are perfectly healthy.

Started with 4 zebra finches about a year ago. They were given to me by an old woman who could not care for them properly. One died within a week. I kept the cage clean and give fresh water, seed, millet spray, hard boiled mashed egg, fresh spinach every day. I add whatever I have on hand like broccoli, apple, zucchini. I put nests and material in the cage. I now have 18-24 finches! Because they are messy to keep inside we acclimated them and moved them onto our covered deck They have a 3x6 cage 24 wide and we are building another cage! It will be 8 foot tall and 8x10 wide and long. We love them and don't want to give or sell any of them but how many will I be able to keep in the new cage?

They can be rather quarrelsome so it's hard to predict how many birds will get along with each other. They are best kept as a single pair in a small cage. Two pairs in a cage can cause a problem, as can odd numbers of 3-5 per enclosure.

Several pairs can be kept in a very large enclosure but they will pluck each other if they are overcrowded. As a general rule, 3-4 square feet of floor space is required per pair of finches. If plucking starts to occure, some will need to be removed.
