I have a Butterfly Fish, aptly named Angel, in a 75 gallon tank with 4 Banjo Cats, 3 Kuhli and 2 Chinese Hillstream Loaches, 6 Fire Mouth and 2 Dwarf Flag Cichlids, 7 Tiger Barbs, 10 Cherry Barbs, 20 or so Neon Tetras, a Clown, Albino, and Common Pleco, and 2 Albino African Clawed Frog. It is a well planted environment with hiding places for them all. It includes blue moon light when the timer shuts the daytime lights off. The Butterfly is definitely the master of his domain and doesn

My brother and I are owners of a 20 inch silver arowana,16 inch albino oscar, 19 inch rare albino(white)clown knife, 25 inch red bellied pacus, and an 18 inch pleco. They are all housed in a custom 1000 gallon aquarium. It has an amazon river theme. All these fish are a beautiful addition to any large aquarium. Definitely not recommended for a beginner. Its very fun to watch them grapple 3-6 inch feeder fish. These fish are very costly for they consume 5-6 hundred comets(adult gold fish) a week. The tank is filtered by custom filter which filters 1,200 gallons an hour. A setup like this will roughly cost anyone a good 6,000-8,000 dollars. But it is worth every dollar.

I have had one of these for several months and I have never seen it come to the top for air. I have a large castle that it likes to hide in, and I hardly ever see it. Kind of dissapointing considering how exspensive it was!

On March 20, 2006 i bought four 8 inch silver Arowanas. After 10 months, one of them grew to 18 inches while the rests grew to about 16 inches. It is costly to maintain them because i am feeding them with live fish, but keeping them is giving me so much happiness. Seafarers who are visiting us here at Stella Maris Seaman's Centre, Kaohsiung, Taiwan are really amused and amazed on how fast they grow and how beautiful they are. They would often take photos with them to show them to their loved ones back home. Its worth keeping them!

I've had several of Baby Arowanas which were silver and pearl. At first they were very hard to take care of. But as i kept buying some more,(which cost me a lot of money) it kept getting easier. I always started with a baby Arowana which was silver. They were cheaper than the Pearl Arowana so i didn't buy pearl. My 3rd baby arowana i bought a week ago is doing great. Its getting comfortable in its aquarium(but it seems to small, im planning to buy a 150cm aquarium for it). I haven't named it yet. I have no idea whether its a male or female. I feed it frozen shrimps which it likes. I don't dare to feed live fish because of the fat and diseases. I try to keep the water between 20 to 28 degrees celcius. I don't really have any decorations for it. So i just give it a nice aquarium light to make it like home. Even though i've had this fish for a week only, i love it already. It seems to be my favorite fish.

I had a Butterfly for a few months, but lost him to my cat. (I had him in a small tank with no cover) I just recently got another one and we put him in the comunity tank this time. (It has a lid) He is with a Beta, Gouramis, a Rainbow Shark, 2 Red Fin sharks, Sahara, Black Rubber Eel, Dragonfish, a few goldfish, Yoyo Loach, a Lace Catfish, 2 Flat Catfish, algae eaters and some snails. They all seem to be 1 big happy family in a 55 gallon tank.

Sometimes when I put one food item in the tank, like a daddy long leg spider, the butterfly may lose track of it. When they do, they will get agitated and swum back & forth in a "search pattern" until they find it & then pounce. The other thing I have noticed is that while they normally ignore the other fish in the tank, there are two exceptions. First, when a fish accidentally swims between them and the unfortunate bug, they will bully them out of the way. Secondly, when I put a lot of prey in the tank, 10 or 12 small crickets from the pet shop, they will go into a shark like "feeding frenzy" and will chase and snap at smaller fish which make the mistake of being on the surface at the time.

I had a butterfly for 2 years. I never had a problem with it and my other fish. I have a large angel fish, a dojo loach, some gouramis and a ropesnake. It loved crickets whenever the store had them, and freeze dried krill. And like someone else said, it loved live bugs of any sort. I'm sure my neighbors thought i was crazy for always chasing bugs outside. Unfortunately, i left the lid up when i went to get my bucket to vaccum the tank, and he jumped out. He never recoverd :( I had him for a while and forgot to keep it closed one time. So always remember to keep the top sealed.
